Sep 15, 2009Since installing Snow Leopard my Address Book does not sort alphabetically. (I wish I'd not bothered with SL - it's made no noticeable improvement just caused a series of small problems.)

Jan 18, 2010I am having trouble sorting my itunes library. I have numerous different songs by different artists (i.e 700+ lil wayne songs). What I would like to do is sort my entire library alphabetically by artist. Then, I want each artists songs to be alphabetized. Its just way to hard to look through 700 shuffled songs from one artist.

Nov 18, 2007I've been a Mac users for a good long time, but only recently have I gone back to using it as my primary computer again. Now, after the wonderful homecoming, the sorting on the Finder is really becoming unacceptable. Why can't it list the folders first and then list the Files? I really need to get this working to effectively target things I need to do. Has someone worked out a solution for this yet? Has Apple? You have a folder of files from A-Z numbering in the thousands, and only 4 folders inside of it that are scattered throughout the thousands of files alphabetically. How do I get ALL folders to simply list alphabetically at the top, before the Finder lists all the files? This doesn't seem like rocket-science, but I'm running out of keywords to search on, and I'm not having much luck. There's gotta be a Finder enhancer or system tweak somewhere, right?

Mar 31, 2012How I can sort my files within folders in a specific order? Not in alphabetical order, size, date, kind etc...but in an order that I want them in (documents from school to be exact, I would like to sort them in the progression of the lessons from week to week). I never knew how to do this at the time and now I am kind of learning how to sort all of my docs within Finder, but this seems to be the first stumbling block that I've come across?

Aug 12, 2009Having switched recently from Entourage to Mac mail, there is one thing that i am missing and would like some help. I have a large inbox and normally find mail by clicking on the "From" column header, to sort the by the names of people sending me mails. Using entourage I would then press "d" on the keyboard to take me the first name begining with d. However in Mail when I press d, it takes me to the first email in which the subject line starts with a d. How do I get it to take me to the first name begining with d?

Jan 8, 2010I've set up Rules and they work if I go to Messages/Apply Rules and click each of the rules. However, it does not apply the rules if I click All Rules at the head of that list. Someone advised me to check the boxes of each Rule under Tools/Rules so they would be applied when mail arrives, but that doesn't work. All of those boxes are checked and the rules are not applied when mail arrives.
1. Any idea how to make rules apply as mail arrives?
2. If that's not possible, do you know how to make "all rules" work so I don't have to highlight and click through each of the several rules?
OS X :: Mail Application Message Sorting Stuck On Default
Dec 8, 2010My mail.app seems to be stuck on the wrong sort default. Like most people, I prefer my messages sorted in date order. Somehow, my work mailbox has become stuck on sort by message subject. I can change it to sort by date, however, if I send an email (in any account), it reverts back to sorting by subject. Quitting and restarting Mail.app also reverts it to sort by subject. It now seems to be spreading to my other mailboxes.

Jun 13, 2012I am running Lion (latest ver) on my iMac (2011, i7), and have icloud set up to sync mail (and other stuff) with my iPhone 4. My iCloud account Sent Mail and Drafts are being syncronized between the cloud the iPhone, but not the iMac. So for example, I see 2 items in my Drafts folder when I log into icloud.com, and I see them in the drafts folder on iPhone mail, but they do not appear in the drafts folder for my iCloud account on Mail.app on the iMac. Also, I don't see emails I sent from icloud.com on my Mac's mail. I have iCloud enabled on the mac, and mail syncing is specifically turned on.

May 22, 2009I use gmail as my main email account. I have it synched to my iphone (IMAP) and mail.app (IMAP). This was all running smoothly until about a week ago when I turned on my mac and opened mail. It started downloading hundreds of emails.
I looked over them and it seems that all the mails that I have moved to sub folders have been copied to my inbox again and marked as unread.
I have not knowingly changed any settings on my iphone, mac or web based gmail.

Mar 17, 2012I'm migrating the admin side of my life to my iMac. I am using Mac mail for my mai, this includes a Gmail IMAP account and a POP3 account for my meandering ISP. The IMAP one loads up fine with the IMAP folders there under a sub set of folders for the account.But the POP3 account won't let me create folders within it nor does it have a subset like the Geekwolf one you see below.What do I need to do to get it to have folders, I need to be able to sort incoming mail, but at the moment, I can't.My ISP does have an IMAP setting, but I don't want to have the mail sat about on a server.

Jul 21, 2009I've got a new Macbook Pro that I'm syncing through MobileMe to the older macbook pro it's replacing, as well as my desktop iMac. It has synced the mail properly, but on the laptop, which has been my main mac for mail etc, there are a lot of folders, old mail etc. I never had these folders etc on the desktop. I would now like to sync (copy) these folders and all the saved mail in them to the new laptop, and sync the whole thing with the iMac.

In Firefox, you can right click the context menu and choose 'sort by name'. I don't see that option in Safari.

Nov 28, 2009I've been spending the past few days upgrading my Aunts computer to SL, and while I was at it I told her I'd set up Mail for her. When she logged in, it just showed things "to", in the inbox, when it should be "from", seeing as it should all be to her... and it isn't. Seems to treat everything as a sent mail... which it isn't either. Heres a pic(spam box in this case, all mailboxes look like this)...
It's an AOL account if that helps.... Any ideas? I'm in the dark on what to do. Hope someone knows how to fix this problem..

Mar 13, 2009this is kind of an annoyance and I can't seem to find any answers online. My left column on Mail usually has 3 folders (inbox, sent, trash). That's how I like it. Every once in a while though, it creates a new folder under my email address. Why does this happen, and can I stop it? In case it helps, I only have 1 email address and it's a .me account. Also, I do send emails from my Mac, iPhone and occasionally [URL] from a work PC. I don't know if that's relevant, I just wanted to get as many facts out there as I can.

Jun 5, 2012I could not find any direct reference to my question - believe me I searched everywhere before coming here.
Some details:
- OS X 10.7.4
- Mail 5.2 (1278)
Prior to my intervention, Mail was not really running at all; It was making entire system run slow and I could not send mail at all. I decided to backup my Mail folder and Export all the 'On My Mac' folders before making any changes.
After all was backed up, I rm -rf ~/Library/Mail ; I then reopened my Mail app. I re-added the old account. All my online stuff is fine obviously as it is delivered through IMAP. The 'On My Mac' stuff however is seemingly a different story. I attempted to import the exported 'On My Mac' folders, however after they were reimported, none of the subfolders were there, and 1 mailbox in particular did not report an import failure, but does not even import into the 'On My Mac' section.
I also attempted moving the old Mailbox .mbox package/folders to the same place they had been, but this does not seem to work either. I am just presented with an empty folder structure upon reopening Mac Mail.
