In Safari, there must be a way to sort a long list of bookmarks in a bookmarks folder into an alphabetical list. Safari support did not have an answer.

How do I sort my Safari Bookmark Menus alphabetically..So far I have just had to highlight the bookmark and move it with the arrow to a black line that shows up in the space where I want to put it. In Firefox, you can right click the context menu and choose 'sort by name'. I don't see that option in Safari.

I have been using firefox for years now and would like to sync up my bookmarks to my ipad and iphone. I have a Mac Pro, MBP, Iphone an Ipad. I know you can sync to firefox, but I don't have firefox on IOS. First is there an IOS app for phone and ipad. I run Contacts on both my iPad2 and my iMac; I find that in the listing to the left of the Contacts on the iMac, 'All iCloud' appears twice; one with 519 entries (which is correct) and the other with 78 entries, 77 of them also in the other one. They are synced via iCloud, not iTunes; I've tried to sort this by exporting the vCards to my desktop and then attempting to trash Contacts and reinstall but this is not permitted as it's 'required by OSX', which seems reasonable. It sometimes becomes a problem when I'm using lists and discover that some people are not on the list I am using because - for some inexplicable (to me, at least) reason, they're on the other iCloud list.

All my bookmarks in the bookmarks bar. I want to move them all so they are just in bookmarks menu dont want anything in bookmarks bar. I have edited renamed moved the bookmarks from bookmarks bar without a problem until I quite safari. Once I reopen safari all changes I made disappear and it reverts back to original with all bookmarks on bookmarks bar. what am I doing wrong that i cannot make permanent changes to my bookmark bar on Safari 5.1.3?

After my recovery drive went missing and trying to reinstall it, had to do a format of my hard drive and reinstall everything once I got OS X reinstalled and up-to-date, I tried to import my bookmarks from a backup bookmarks file, when I quit safari and re-open safari bookmarks were missing and default ones back in place. When searching though the forums for how to fix this problem but too know unluck they did not work.

I read many messages about the (automatic) Internet Account sort that is done every time something is edited in the accounts list.I have followed the advice I found but with different results.But these methods, for me, do not "solve" my problem: when I have all my accounts in the right order, if I have to change something again, the sort is automatically done.
it's possible to disable the sort of the Internet Accounts?If not, could be a good feature in the next OS upgrades.

If I have the following folders or files (the numbers in which represent dates):
"20120211 abcdef" and "2014 abcdef" then, if I sort the files by Name in Finder, they will be sorted like this:
"2014abcdef"
"20120211abcdef"
so Finder seems to be treating the numeric characters as numeric values and sort the files by numeric value.
How to change this behavior and tell Finder to treat numeric characters as alphabetical characters and sort the files/folders like:
"20120211abcdef"
"2014abcdef"

Since upgrading from Mountain Lion to Mavericks (10.9.4), I've noticed that I am no longer able to sort files by name and get one list in alphabetical order. I now get two, as Mavericks seems to be sorting out files beginning first with uppercase letters and then following with all lowercase letters:
Naturally, this makes it difficult to efficiently scan a directory for a file with a known name, as I'd have to look in two places. Terminal is showing file lists in the same manner. I have made sure that grouping is turned off, so as to not confuse the view while sorting. A related issue that I am dealing with is drop down menus in Apps or on websites where one can typically type the first few letters of an entry and snap right to it. However, typing "tim" will not bring up an entry in a font menu, for instance, if the thing I'm trying to get to is "Times New Roman" with an uppercase T. In this case, I would have to hold the shift key to get a capital letter and then let it go, so that the rest would be lowercase.
I don't remember any Mac operating system before this being so insistent on separating letter cases.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI've had Snow Leopard since launch. I want to do a fresh install, and then copy the files I want onto it from my external hard-drive. I have some questions though:
Will I have to redownload all the system updates that came out since Snow Leopard's launch? Is there a way around that?
Is there a way to save Safari's bookmarks?
If I want to keep a certain application, do I save the DMG or the installed icon onto the hard drive?
I copied the Pictures folder onto the hard-drive, which includes the 'iPhoto Library' file. Will this put my events back onto iPhoto?
How do I save address book contacts?
How do I save iTunes playlists/play counts/library etc?
Maybe there's an easier way of doing a fresh install while still being able to select these things to keep?
I've followed the usual instructions for deleting bookmarks but they keep showing up again every time I bring up Safari again. I've shut down the computer and reinstalled Safari without resolution of the problem. My OS is OS 10.6.

I already know how to move over my music files, documents, etc. However, I have a ton of bookmarks saved and I'd hate to hate to build my bookmarks from scratch after doing a clean install of OS X.
