View 1 Replies View RelatedI have just upgraded to Maverick (OSX 10.9.4) and have lost the ability to select alert repeat times. Previously I could choose 5/10/15 minutes or 1 hour/day/week. Now I can only snooze for 15 minutes. Where have the options gone? If I want to repeat the alert in 1 day it is difficult to have to click on snooze every 15 minutes.

I can no longer save PDF from the web. Error message shows The document “doc.pdf” could not be exported as “doc.pdf”. Nor can I print a pdf from the internet, instead it prints blank pages. It used to work fine. I know that this is not a problem with the documents I am downloading because I have no problem saving and printing the same files from a Dell computer.

I have a mac desktop. Just recently, possible since an upgrade to mavericks, it loses its ability to use wifi its clearly recognises as connected. The temporary solution I have involves opening the network and running wifi diagnostics. It always comes back and says it is all fine but it fixes it. ie the act of running diagnostics resolves the problem.
Happens every 10 mins or so when using and is now becoming a sore point.
I am not even slightly technical. I turn on, I type, I turn off.
Using Leopard 10.5.8.
I'm not sure how it happened, but suddenly I have lost the ability to change some settings in print dialog boxes.
In any print dialog box, the top part of the window allows you to select which printer, any presets, the number of copies, whether or not you want them collated, and which pages.
Below that is a drop-down box that typically displays the application name. If you select the triangle in this drop-down box, some other options appear: Layout, Color Options, Paper Handling, Cover Page and Scheduler. All of these options work fine.
Below, these however, are another set of options that are all, I assume, provided by the print driver. On my HP Photosmart C7200, the available options are: Two-Sided Printing, Paper Type/Quality, Borderless Printing, HP Real Life Technologies, and Printer Driver Information.
If I choose any of these options that appear in the lower part of this drop-down menu, nothing appears. The application name remains in the drop-down box. In other words, I have lost the ability to choose two-sided printing, change the paper type or print quality, cor hoose borderless printing.
It just randomly freezes, cutting off all ability to navigate the desktop.Re-booting the system resolves the problem, but leaves me with a lot of lost work.SOMETIMES taking out and putting back in the batteries resolves the problems, but not often.The kayboard continues to work, so it doesn't seem to be a bluetooth issue.

a few days ago I noticed that my Late 2009 Macbook seemed to lose its internet connection every few minutes just for a couple of seconds only to reconnect. I have no idea why this problem suddenly started occurring, I had not not modified any hardware or software. Strangely enough, this happens whether I use Wifi (at work) or Mobile Broadband via USB ( at home) so I don't think it can be blamed on the internet connection. Stranger still, I should probably not be talking of losing my internet connection but of not being able to access the internet: While again being in a few seconds of slump, I checked my Mobile Broadband Manager and it was not disconnected, upstream traffic was occurring! Just the downstream was at zero. I run windows with bootcamp on the same Mac and there the internet works without trouble. I have all the newest updates installed.
View 2 Replies View RelatedSo here is my problem: Originally I had an airport express set up to broadcast a wireless network. I had a printer plugged into the airport express. I also had an ethernet cord going into the airport express. When I was connected to the network, I could surf the internet just fine, and was able to set up the printer just fine as well. I then decided that I was not getting fast enough speeds wirelessly with my b/g airport express network, so I unplugged the ethernet cord from the airport express and connected it directly to my mac. With this setup I was able to surf the internet over ethernet, but even though I was connected to the airport express network I was not able to print. It would always give me errors... I read somewhere about how it looks at one service first or something... so I tried moving Airport to the top of the services in System Preferences, but that just made it so my internet didn't work. How can I print over the airport network and use the internet via ethernet at the same time?

Office setting (I am at University, that's why we all go out with out own public IPs):
- windows XP computer connecting directly to the internet with its own IP address, we shall say 123.456.789.0
A HP laserjet 4100 printer connected to the windows XP computer, called Printer2
- airport extreme connecting directly to the internet with its own IP address, we shall say 098.765.432.1
- macbook connected to airport. Note that this way macbook and windows are not in the same workgroup.
I made the windows xp share the printer and I added some exceptions to the firewall so that it would accept incoming printing jobs from the airport's IP 098.765.432.1. I downloaded the Laserjet drivers on the mac.
And then, I tried every possible configuration to add the printer. IPP, LPD, Socket, SMB...
I tried putting as a queue just Printer2, I tried putting /printers/Printer2.. I even tried things like username:password@123.456.789.0:port... nothing worked. I just cannot manage to print, and I actually cannot even make the mac recognize the printer.
I remember I once found out what the problem was... but that was long ago and I forgot about it..It even kept working as I switched from an old access point to the airport..

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have recently upgraded from Snow Leopard to Mavericks and am now having problem with my hp 4500 office jet printer. The print icon tends to stay on the dock after the print job is done and then mess up the print queue. Even worse if I forget to cancel it manually then when I put the computer on 'sleep' the printer starts up again and the whole job is rerun unless I get to cancel it quickly on the printer!
It does not always do this (the print icon disappearing as it should do), but for 90% of the time it does.
For specific reasons, I needed to connect my Synology DS211 NAS to my iMac directly via its ethernet port. I discovered that if I share my wireless internet connection (coming from my cable modem/wireless router) from wireless to ethernet, then the NAS would get the IP stuff it needed to show up. did that, voila, NAS is acting like a glorified external hard drive. BUT, when I did that, I lost all internet connectivity on my iMac. Still have full wireless signal. preferences pane says I'm fully connected to my network with an IP address, but safari always fails to pull up any webpages, saying I'm not connected to the internet.As soon as turn off the ethernet PORT, it all starts working again. And to make it even crazier, I discovered that if I leave sharing my wireless internet via my ethernet port ON, but turn off the ethernet port (in pref pane), I can STILL access the NAS just like before. That makes no sense - I'm sharing my internet via a port I have turned off, but it works? Anyway, why would Iose my airport wireless internet connection when the ethernet port is on - configured manually?

I am having issues printing documents I am viewing in Preview.When I press (command P) the File button highlights briefly, but then the print screen does not come up.However, on occasion, it has worked.I have all software up to date and have tried restarting the computer and closing all software.Every other program prints just fine, (for instance, in mail, I can press Command P and it will bring up the print screen as usual).
