When I set my iMac to sleep I lose my internet connectivity when opening up again. If I restart all is OK. This problem also affects my MB Pro as well, on OS X lion.

I am new to the IMac experience which I have to say so far I love it but I am having 2 problems.
1) Every time my computer goes to sleep I lose wireless connectivity and I have to log back in where as my other computers I dont have to do this it signs back in automatically
2) Some how I lost Spaces from the icon bar at the bottom of the screen and can not figure how to get it back down there.
I recently had to uplug my modem and router. When I reconnected them here is what I am experiencing. My PC desktop computer found the network and is wokring fine, has internet access. My IMAC and IPAD can see the network but canot access the internet. I have reset the router and moden numerous times.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am starting a new thread. I was having connectivity to the internet issues earlier. I have an IPAD an IMAC and a PC. I had to unplug my router to move it. Now it seems that I can only get internet access on one device. Earlier in the day my PC internet worked and the IPAD and IMAC did not. After shutting down my PC the IMAC began to work. Is there a setting somewhere for multiple devices?

When I close then open the lid on my MacBook, it will not wake up from sleep mode. I have to reboot by holding down the power button for 10 sec. When it restarts, it takes a long time to get past the gray screen with the apple logo. I also have this same problem when it goes into sleep mode, when left idle. I have since changed the settings so it will not go into sleep mode when idle in system preferences. I have reset PRAM and SMC, but the problem still persists.

Evey time it goes to sleep or I turn it off it forgets the fact that there is any wireless around. I have to look for the networks. Then if it wants to will find them and trying to connect to my own wireless network (apple extreme) is a challenge. I do have parallel desktop installed, could that be the problem?

I have wireless network run via BT hub. However because of ongoing connectivity issues connect the main machine via the ethernet. I no longer use my Airport extreme. Since I first bought this machine I have had connectivity issues. At first thought it was BT & while initially it was I can now isolate the issues to this specific machine. I find that in the morning the connection has gone down & the only way to get it back is to restart everything. I can however get connected through all my other devices.Â
I am using Lion & safari or chrome or firefox! Have regular clearences of my cache.I have to box up the machine & trundle to my nearest Apple store (my 90 days home support is expired).

Every time my macbook is in sleep mode the internet disconnects (msn messenger shuts down, download stops etc.). I am not talking about closing the lid sleep mode because I am in desktop mode with an external display. Once I woke up my macbook it reconnects. View 5 Replies View RelatedAs of last night, my MBP started acting very strangely. After entering my username and password, it would enter the desktop for a short period of time and then kick back into sleep mode; the screen would turn back to black. Sometimes it will let me stay on the desktop for a long time and other times it will hardly let me stay on the desktop. I called apple support and they had me start the computer in safe mode; even then it occasionally kicks me out.
The tech guy said that it was a "strange software issue" and not a hardware issue. I thought it was a hard drive issue; my hard drive makes an odd sound when it unlocks (a grinding sound), but it has been doing that for quite some time with no issues. I tried to reset the SMC and it didn't do anything.
How should I remedy this problem? Is this a hard drive issue? Hard drive failure? Has the grinding sound finally caught up with me? I am running OS X; not leopard or snow leopard. I know I need to upgrade, but this shouldn't be happening.

My Mac would not turn on this morning from sleep mode. I pressed the power button and nothing. Then I did it again and heard the fan shut off inside so I tried again and up it came. Also I cannot wake my Mac up unless I press the power button. I used to press any key on the keyboard or move the mouse and it would wake up, but now that doens't work. I don't know if this could be a reason, but my mother has a horrible habit of unplugging it when it storms. It's always asleep and I've told her not to do that and to make sure it's turned off before ripping the cord from the wall. But she continues to do it when it storms.

Computer would only start after sleep mode if I unplugged the power cord. The power button would not do anything, even if I held it for a long time.
Shut down and start up would work normally. Only effected sleep mode.
After much trouble shooting I found that I had a bad USB hub. Everything on the bad USB hub would work fine so I didn't suspect it.

I've been using Pc's for the past 30 odd years so am totally new to Mac. I'm doing my best to adapt to this new different OS and so far have found some things more user friendly but others ? I've more or less given up on those as Mac doesn't seem to do those things. These are probably Windows based and I'm assuming Mac has its own alternatives that I haven't discovered yet. Anyway, my immediate problem is this goddamned frustrating situation when I try to re-activate the comp' after waking it from 'sleep'. Sometimes its fine but others, it comes back on but freezes and the only option I have is to turn it off at the switch and do a re-boot!
