i got a question about adjusting the brightness level on iMac.
i adjust the brightness to lowest but each time i restart or turn the computer back on, the brightness level would set back to highest. Is that for all the imac? is there a way to set it?

Excluding sitting outside in the sun or in very dark rooms, what level do you usually keep your MBA brightness level at and what kind of battery life do you get? I've got mine set to about 65%, haven't used it enough to know what kind of life I get.

i keep my MPB on 1/16 brightness level in low light, and it took me more than a month to get used to. What is the highest level of brightness you can tolerate in low light conditions?
I dont want to sound too sensitive but sometimes it looks almost too bright even on min settings.

its vivid image I like the screen bright on my 15" 2010 macbookpro. but I wonder, in the long run does it shorten the computer's lifespan?
should I stay 3 clicks away from the maximum setting for example? just curious what the consensus is on this, if there is one

Under normal office lighting, I find anything other than 100% brightness seems too dark. But I've been getting huge amounts of eye strain so am wondering whether to turn in down some more, say to 50-75%, but worried that will strain my eyes even more. What do you guys have your 13" set to, assuming good ambient lighting?

My wife has an iMac (I don't know any other way to identify it e.g. model number), and she has this 3rd party calibration software that I'm trying to use. I am not used to a Mac, and I cannot find the display settings for the monitor. There are no buttons on the monitor, and when I go to preferences, I can only find the brightness control. I've googled this and cannot find a clear, simple answer. I have used every version of Windows (currently on 8.1 on my PC) and it's easy for me on that platform. I suppose it's just that I don't really know how to navigate Mac OS.

Just wondering if anyone could help me figure this out.
I have my 40" flat screen plugged into my imac via VGA cable to mirror the image.
I'm just trying to have the imac display sleep while I play a movie full screen through the external TV.
I've tried two different ways but both have failed.
1-I set up a hot corner in the imac to sleep display but this results in both the display and the TV sleeping.
2-I just set the power settings to sleep after 1 minute. This works but then If a movie is playing the computer won't go to sleep.

So I have noticed a few times already, that the screen on my white macbook flickers to change the brightness level. It can do this while the computer is plugged in and charging, or if it's off the charger. It is definitely noticeable as it causes me to just watch what the screen is doing.

Just got my new i7 in the mail today after waiting for the refresh for 5 months and it has that stupid high pitched noise that you get when you adjust the brightness. I returned four of these things at the beginning of the year (2 HD failures, 1 power source failure, 1 DOA), one that had the hd failure also had this same high pitched noise.
I love these computers (minus the complete lack of quality control), so I don't want to switch back to PC, but I am at my wits end here. Apple already gave me $150 off this computer for me trouble, but I just don't know if its worth the hassle anymore. I am returning it for sure, but would you ask for more compensation, maybe a ram upgrade or something? I don't like to be the guy who asks for free crap, but the way I see it, they can give me another hundred $, or I can go back to pc and they lose a customer for life.

I know this happened before in the old Macbook Pros by the look of things when I searched around.Basically there is a noticeable high pitched whine when the screen brightness is either not completely off or max.

Whenever my screen is not turned up to the maximum brightness, a really high pitched sound is emitted from the laptop. If you've ever heard the "mosquito ringtone", that's basically what it sounds like. Really odd. It's definitely got something to do with the screen brightness, and I basically can't use my laptop at medium brightness because the sound drives me a little nuts. Turning the brightness to the lowest setting makes the sound less intense, but it's still audible.

it is almost like a negative effect, but not the actual negative effect that you can do by pressing "ctl+alt+com+8". The other odd thing is that is has seemed to get a little better in the past day or two on its own. I have attached a picture (the problem is best seen in the upper left portion of the display although this problem does cover the entire screen). Does anyone know if this is a fixable problem?

My brand new 15 inch MacBook Pro was working fine for a week. Today the display went to sleep and when I tried to wake it, it remained dark, items barely visible. I could see the display brightness meter changing, but the brightness did not. Restarting didn't help. Called Apple and they're going to replace the computer. Has this happened to anybody else? Note: I have the hi-res anti-glare display.

I'm having some problem with my Time Machine. When I restore a folder thats full of other folders, and files. Time Machine just restores the top level folder without it's contents.
And sometimes when I restore a single file, it asks for my admin password.
I've repaired permissions across both my external HD and my internal one.
I've re-installed, and restored the OS, from a back-up.
Problem is that, Time Machine works fine for other accounts.

I found the setting under Displays to automatically adjust brightness, but is there a way to set this different for Battery or Power Adapter? I would like to keep this option on for using the Battery, but would like the display at a constant level when using the Power Adapter.

Recently, after about 5 minutes of use (not sitting idle), my MacBook's screen will go very dim. I hit the buttons on the keyboard to take the brightness all the way up, but it doesn't get much brighter and there's only one thing that I can do to make the screen go brighter: I go into System Preferences and click Display. The second I click that, the brightness returns without me doing anything in the Display section, so after Display comes up, I just close it out and the screen brightness is fine for a while. It seems to do this after the lid has been closed for a while and then starts dimming again after opening the lid and using it for about 5 minutes. Is there a way to fix the auto-dim mode without disabling it? MacBook (white) is running Leopard 10.5.8 with all the latest updates.
