I am looking to purchase an external monitor for my unibody macbook pro, and I love the (maximum) brightness level on it, and would like the same on my external monitor. Does anyone know what the cd/m2 rating is?

I have an aluminum macbook 2.0 if it helps but I have a question. I have my macbook at full screen brightness but aren't you suppose to get even more brightness like another level when you connect the ac and my birghtness doesn't even move. Also I feel my macbook screen is not as bright as it used to be any way to make it brighter or may I have just get used to my macbook?

I have an external monitor (Samsung 2223w) monitor connected to my MBP via DVI. The MBP is shut.
Is there a way that I can reduce the brightness of the external monitor quickly with software? Of course, I can manually reduce brightness by clicking the buttons on the side of the monitor and navigating through the menus. But is there a way that I can set a keystroke to do the same?
I dropped my laptop on a tile floor and the bottom hit it flat. my computer works fine besides the fact that my computer screen's brightness is as if my brightness level was all the way down.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI just got my MaBook Pro (2.2 GHz and nVidia graphic card). I installed Boot Camp 1.3 and Vista. I have a Benq Monitor 24" with the native resolution of 1920x1080. The MBP is attached to the monitor via DVI.
The problem is that the max resolution Vista allows me to set up for the external monitor is: 1024 X 768. I have tried the original Vista driver from nVidia, but it wont recognize my hardware. Needless to say, that under Mac OS X everything works just fine.
Excluding sitting outside in the sun or in very dark rooms, what level do you usually keep your MBA brightness level at and what kind of battery life do you get? I've got mine set to about 65%, haven't used it enough to know what kind of life I get.

But I've been getting huge amounts of eye strain so am wondering whether to turn in down some more, say to 50-75%, but worried that will strain my eyes even more. So I have noticed a few times already, that the screen on my white macbook flickers to change the brightness level. It can do this while the computer is plugged in and charging, or if it's off the charger. It is definitely noticeable as it causes me to just watch what the screen is doing.

View 7 Replies View Relatedso I bought a super awesome easy to use ink refill kit for my Canon Pixma MP150. The cartridge refilled fine, but the printer is being cranky and won't let me print because it still thinks the ink is low.
As some of you may know, most printers monitor your ink level, but they usually simply estimate the remaining ink based on how much ink the printer things it has used up in printing. It has no idea how much ink is actually left in the tank... and will still think it's low if you refill the cartridge.
My printer, however, doesn't let me print now that it thinks my refilled cartridge is low.
According to canon's website, i'm SUPPOSED to get an error message on my screen asking if I want to continue printing anyway... but I don't, and their support hasn't been very helpful.
I don't get ANY error message at all. The Printer Setup Utility simply stops all print jobs for that printer without any explanation. I've figured out through experience in the past that this is always solved by replacing a low ink cartridge. It's a pretty stupid system cause it doesn't even tell me that's why it won't print... but every time I try to resume the print jobs it immediately stops them again.
Do you guys have any tips on how I can turn off the ink level monitor on the printer, or on how I can force it to print anyway.
Do you guys think that maybe Gimp-Print drivers would let me bypass the ink monitoring? If I do that, then will gimp-print still give me full control over the printer (i.e. will I still be able to clean the nozzles and stuff using gimp-print drivers?)

Just bought a new MacBook (OSX 10.6.1 w/4GB RAM) and ViewSonic 22" monitor. When I hooked it up (via DVI) and loaded the VewSonic drivers, I got the max resolution of 1920 x 1080. Earlier today, I came back and woke up my MacBook - and got only a snowy screen on the monitor and couldn't get anything on the laptop. Restarted and now, even though the display shows 1920 x 1080, it is not providing that resolution. The max for the laptop shows 1280 x 800 and that is about what is showing on the monitor as well. I keep resetting the resolution on the monitor at 1920 x 1080 - but the screen size doesn't change.

The second monitor is just not bright. I have used another monitor as a second monitor as well. Both are just not bright enough to suit me.
I have fiddled with the brightness controls, to no avail.
Is that a generic problem with second monitors?
They just don't get enough juice or something?
Would another brand monitor help?
When I connect my 13" MBP to an external display to watch a movie etc. the external display seems to be darker than it would appear if I was watching on my MBP. Is there anything I can do to make things brighter (other than turning the brightness up on my TV)?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI picked up a new MacBook yesterday and I noticed a weird issue when coming out of "monitor sleep" mode, not regular sleep mode.
When I move the mouse, the external monitor shows what you see in the picture, kinda like a TV with no signal. The MacBook screen works fine so what I just do is unplug and re-plug in the DVI plug and everything is good again.
My 24 inch Dell monitor worked fine with my M1330 and other computers so I know it's not that. Does anyone have the same issue or maybe give me some light on this?
I have a 22" Dell external monitor on my MBP. I know that I just close the cover to my MBP to shut off the screen. What do I do in those instances that I want to use both screens? There has to be something simpler than restarting the MBP?
View 3 Replies View RelatedAs said, my current set up is an HDMI - DVI cable (HDMI to monitor and DVI to adapter) and my DVI - mini DisplayPort adapter, everything is connected fine but when I turn on the monitor, it says cable not found... and nothing is displayed on the screen but on the Macbook side of things, it sees the monitor is connected (I can extend the screen and leave the screen) but other than that, it appears I cannot get an image on the monitor, pressing every button on the monitor does not work either.
Any other information that may seem necessary, let me know. I tried clearing my PRAM and clearing the power and such but nothing seems to work.
I have a 27" i7. I have a 24" DVI Montior hooked up to it via MDP->DVI adaptor. When the 24" Monitor is on, everything is fine. When I turn the monitor off, the magic mouse tracking on the 27" screen stutters. I am not kidding - it took me ages to figure out that to fix I either need to turn the other monitor on OR disconnect the MDP->DVI adaptor.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy wife has an iMac (I don't know any other way to identify it e.g. model number), and she has this 3rd party calibration software that I'm trying to use. I am not used to a Mac, and I cannot find the display settings for the monitor. There are no buttons on the monitor, and when I go to preferences, I can only find the brightness control. I've googled this and cannot find a clear, simple answer. I have used every version of Windows (currently on 8.1 on my PC) and it's easy for me on that platform. I suppose it's just that I don't really know how to navigate Mac OS.

The brightness goes up when you plug in your MBA, but then over time it just goes up and up. I honestly like my brightness pretty low (rarely more than half, typically at 3-5 notches), but it just keeps on going up and up. I almost never set it above half, but multiple times a day, I notice that it looks pretty high and it's at like 3/4 so I put it it down to about 1/3, but after a while, it's just up again.
Anyone else notice this? What is it, why does it do this? How can I fix it? I don't mind not having auto-brightness (even though I loved it), as long as my screen doesn't keep going up.
I have a G4 powerbook with an LCD that only displays the top 25% of the screen. I've been using an external monitor with it just fine. Today, I reinstalled the OS and ran into a problem. The main OSX startup menu (you know, where it asks for your location, timezone, personal info, etc) is prompting me for information, and I can't see the forms to fill them in! The external monitor defaults to "extended" as opposed to "mirrored", and the forms are embedded, meaning I can't drag them over to my external monitor. Obviously, if I can't fill out these forms and get to the desktop, the laptop is completely useless.
Does anyone know how to force the external monitor to be "mirrored" from startup? Is there a keycommand?
I have been using the latest macbook pro 13.3" since April 2010. Over the last week the monitor suddenly goes completely white and the external monitor goes black. The laptop becomes unresponsive although the programmes opened continue running (e.g a skype voice call would continue without interruption although the monitor is all white).
The only solution at the moment is to press the turn off button for a few seconds then switch the laptop on again. It will then work normally until for no apparent reason this happens again.
Is there a way to use my external monitor as my only monitor when connected to my mbp? Or, can i clone my display, but at separate resolutions? I am able to do this on windows with nvidia software, is there software that allows further customization?
View 3 Replies View RelatedRecently, my newer (last year) iMac probably running 10.5 started speaking and wont shut up... there is no obvious way to turn it off. I usually figure problems out myself but there are no system preferences that effect it. I even changed the voice in preferences as a test and it is still the same guy reading everything clicked in all applications except when I am in system preferences so far. Usually when I run into a dead end like this there is some mystery key command that works... anyone know?I also noticed that some of the top line (f) keys are not doing what they are supposed to any longer as well... volume up opens the window for expose & spaces it looks like and does not control the volume monitor brightness controls are not working either... I went to the key and mouse preferences and set the key strokes to default and still the same.
