How do I connect my 2008 Intel 20" iMac to my 2005 Philips/Magnavox analog crt television for streaming online content? The tv has both rca & s-video connections, whilst the mac has mini-dvi.

I have a 24" imac that is about 9 months old and running on version: 10.5.7 OS X. I have my imac in one room in my house and the TV in the lounge. I have the use of my apple tv and the apple time machine which is all rigged up in the lounge next to the TV. I would like to have my imac connected to my TV so that I have on the TV my usual imac screen and can use the same as though i am at my imac. I would like it connected wirelessly. Is there a way that i can use the devices i currently have in place to do this, (apple tv, time machine), or do i need other equipment to do this.

I have the apple mini DVI to HDMI cable and the belkin HDMI to DVI cable and the television tuned to hdmi1 channel - there is only one hdmi port but i've checked all the input settings, Should i be changing any settings on my macbook? The tv is just showing as no signal and it's driving me mad!
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have had a great macbook for about a year now and decided I want to attach it to my television. So I went to the store and bought this (special mac) cable that has a (I think) mini DVI connection in the computer that leads to a super video (SV) opening. Then I also bought a cable that starts with an SV (which goes into the mac cable) and ends in a scart which goes inside the TV. To the scart and SV cable there is also an audio cable attached which goes into the computer.
When I turn on the TV, I get the sound but nothing to see.. My computer doesn't detect an external display. I've tried everything: see if the cables are in well, put them in different in- and outputs, turn both the television as the computer on and off, mess with the computer's system preferences and the television's preferences.. And I've also looked on forums and I've just gone clueless!

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a late 2008 12" MacBook with a FireWire 400 slot (only). I am hooking up an 8TB Raid hard drive to it for digitizing, backup and editing on FCP 6 and would like to have a higher speed available than the laptop's FireWire 400 provides. Is there a way to augment/build out the MacBook to utilize either a FireWire 800 slot or an eSATA EC2 card? I don't think this version of the MacBook (MacBook4,1) has a PCI or PCIe card slot. Although I believe it may have a mini-PCIe card somewhere, as the last page of the Users Guide says (under Europe—EU Declaration of Conformity):
"Hereby, Apple Inc. declares that this 802.11a/b/g/n Mini-PCIe card is in compliance with the R&TTE Directive."

When I plug my MacBook into an external audio source via the headphone-jack using the red and white cables (do not know the technical name), I only receive sound out of one speaker. At first I thought one of my stereo speakers had blown out, but I plugged my computer into another stereo using another cord and it still only plays one speaker. Also, when I plug in any set of headphones I only still receive sound through one speaker (the left one). My computers speakers still work, and when nothing is plugged in it still says under the output type that it's Built-in Output. I also noticed that sometimes (but not every time) when I unplug something from the headphone jack that a red light flashes around two times, but it does not stay lit when there is nothing plugged in.
**Another note: The sound is not in mono in one speaker, it is just like one speaker is turned off.

I have searched endlessly on the internet on ways to connect my macbook to an rca inlet on a television but find the information to be outdated or all about hdmi. I would like to run a cable(s) from my mini display port to the rca jack on my television. I only have one HD compatible television so I would like to have a more flexible solution for the rest of the aging televisions in my domicile.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI just bought a new MacBook Pro 15" running Leopard 10.5.6, and the clock is being weird. Last weekend we put the clocks forward an hour here in the UK and I suspect this has something to do with it. What's happening is that my clock is displaying an hour earlier than it actually is, and if I put it into manual mode rather than relying on the Euro Apple timeserver, that fixes it but then the time on my Mail is wrong - it says each message was received a hour before it actually was.
Then it gets really odd - if I change the timezone to London BST and then check the time & date panel, the digital clock still reads an hour early, but the analogue one beneath it displays the right time Then if I close the panel and re-open, I find it's reverted to GMT and both clocks say it's an hour early.
A number of products (speakers, headphones) include a Dolby 5. compatible Toslink digital to multichannel analog (3 mini headphone in particular) converter box. I can't seem to find one for sale separately.
