Aug 16, 2010Does anyone know if GeekTool (or any other similar tools) can be used to bring up an analog clock on the desktop? Especially with a custom-designed clockface?

OS X :: Difference In Analog And Digital Clock Time Display
Apr 2, 2009I just bought a new MacBook Pro 15" running Leopard 10.5.6, and the clock is being weird. Last weekend we put the clocks forward an hour here in the UK and I suspect this has something to do with it. What's happening is that my clock is displaying an hour earlier than it actually is, and if I put it into manual mode rather than relying on the Euro Apple timeserver, that fixes it but then the time on my Mail is wrong - it says each message was received a hour before it actually was.
Then it gets really odd - if I change the timezone to London BST and then check the time & date panel, the digital clock still reads an hour early, but the analogue one beneath it displays the right time Then if I close the panel and re-open, I find it's reverted to GMT and both clocks say it's an hour early.
Mac Pro No Analog Audio Input
Mar 26, 2012The analog audio input on my Mac Pro has stopped working.Audio output still OK; USB audio input works fine but nothing from analog audio input.I know it's getting a signal as I can send the mixer output to a Zoom H4n and it records fine, but I need it to go directly into the computer for tutorial voiceovers. I've tried recording in Quicktime Player, Soundtrack Pro, Camtasia and Screenflow.I get no volume indication in the System Preferences>Sound panel.I opened Apple Midi Setup>analog input and I can adjust volume on the two channels but "Master" is stuck at zero.

Jan 13, 2010When I plug my MacBook into an external audio source via the headphone-jack using the red and white cables (do not know the technical name), I only receive sound out of one speaker. At first I thought one of my stereo speakers had blown out, but I plugged my computer into another stereo using another cord and it still only plays one speaker. Also, when I plug in any set of headphones I only still receive sound through one speaker (the left one). My computers speakers still work, and when nothing is plugged in it still says under the output type that it's Built-in Output. I also noticed that sometimes (but not every time) when I unplug something from the headphone jack that a red light flashes around two times, but it does not stay lit when there is nothing plugged in.
**Another note: The sound is not in mono in one speaker, it is just like one speaker is turned off.

Jun 8, 2010I'm looking to use the speakers (Logitech X-540) with my laptop with 5.1... but this is an analog system (has green/black/orange inputs), and Macbook Pros only output with optical through mini-TOSLink. What's the best (read cheapest) device for decoding the optical output to analog?
If this won't work, I'm probably willing to shell out a bit more cash (Z-5500 perhaps). If you have a digital 5.1 system recommendation ($350 or less), let me know.

Dec 4, 2014I'm converting analog video from a camcorder and vhs player through the elgato converter to a macbook pro 2011. I then have to convert the files to apple pro res LT using mpeg streamclip before they are compatible with FCP7. What converter box will output the video to a format that is FCP7 friendly? Not sure if the canopus units are what will do the trick.

These are so important to me as they include videos of my three children from birth until the age of DVDs. There is NOTHING out there that I can find that will work. The "Debut" program available online for free does not clarify whether it will work with a Mac or with Yosemite.

Jan 20, 2009 I'm looking to modify the cal command that I've seen used for calendars in GeekTool to create a horizontal calendar.
I don't care about days of the week so much, I just think it would be interesting to have all of the days of the week listed out in order at the bottom of my screen, with the current one marked.
So, I need two things:
I need to strip out of the cal command the days of the week at the top (or repeat them the appropriate number of times, but I imagine that will be far more difficult) and the line breaks at the end of each week. This is the most important part.
Secondly, I'd like to find a way to add bars (like this: |) on either side of the current date without replacing the numbers as most of the calendars I've seen have done it.

If I can just modify that to get what I want, that's fine, if I have to use something completely different, that's fine. I just would love to have a horizontal calendar.

I've read many different websites on how to do this and I'm stumped. I don't really understand code, don't use iCal, and have no idea how to read my terminal info.
I'd like to use Geektool b/c of the customization it offers, but I'd also like to be able to use something where I can simply view my to-do list and it refreshes automatically. The thing is I need something that's free.

OS X :: Snow Leopard And Geektool Version 2.1.2?
Jun 1, 2009I recently received a copy of the latest build of Snow Leopard (10A354 i believe). Now when i upgraded the first time GeekTool was working fine. Then i was working on changing the MenuBar to black and the whole system just crashed on me. I had to do a complete reinstall of regular Leopard and then upgrade again to Snow Leopard. Last night was rough. Sooo im not going to try that again for a little while.

May 3, 2010I have a question for anyone out there who is into customizing their desktop. This is my current desktop setup (for my second display) created with Geektool. I'm pretty happy with it but being as anal as I am I want the AM/PM lights to be lit properly.
I can create two desktop wallpapers but OSX wallpaper settings aren't detailed enough to change the image every 12 hours. The only other thing I could think of was to create a 24 hour video, 12 hours of AM followed by 12 of PM. Then use Mach Desktop to play the video.
Though this is crazy overkill and would unnecessarily use a ton of resources. Any ideas would be awesome!
