How can I connect my 2008 MacBook to my TV? I have a mini DVI to HDMI cable but when I connect the laptop to my TV I just see the original Apple desktop wallpaper - no icons.

Currently have a 2008 15 inch MBP attached to a 30 inch ACD.
Am going to buy a new 15 inch MPB and use that with the 30 inch ACD.
Am going to pass on my 2008 15 inch MBP to a colleague, but she doesn't want to use a 30 inch screen.
Can I buy a 24 inch LCD and connect it to a 2008 15 inch MBP, or are the two incompatible?
I have a late 2008 12" MacBook with a FireWire 400 slot (only). I am hooking up an 8TB Raid hard drive to it for digitizing, backup and editing on FCP 6 and would like to have a higher speed available than the laptop's FireWire 400 provides. Is there a way to augment/build out the MacBook to utilize either a FireWire 800 slot or an eSATA EC2 card? I don't think this version of the MacBook (MacBook4,1) has a PCI or PCIe card slot. Although I believe it may have a mini-PCIe card somewhere, as the last page of the Users Guide says (under Europe—EU Declaration of Conformity):
"Hereby, Apple Inc. declares that this 802.11a/b/g/n Mini-PCIe card is in compliance with the R&TTE Directive."

I have a windows server 2008 machine that is using NFS and I'm trying to get my tiger machine 10.4.11 to connect to it but with no such luck. Anyone else have any experience with this? I want to use it for crossplatform sharing but this isn't showing much promise with that..

Is there really a "Late 2008" model? If so, what is the difference.I ask because I recently got a MacPro and according to Apple's hardware test, it is an Early 2008.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a blackbook (intel core 2 duo) and I can connect to my landlord's wireless network (they have a netgear wgt624) but I can't actually use the web (Safari or Firefox will just "think"). I've tested the diagnostics and it confirms that my mac can connect to the network, but it cannot connect to the internet. The network uses WPA personal and it has a 19-aphanumeric passphrase.
*Also - would it be possible for me to extend the wireless range (and make it possible to browse the web) if I used my own 2wire wireless modem to connect to the netgear wgt624?
So I got Office 2011; it's pretty good stuff. Unlike Windows based systems, it did not remove Office 2008 which is different. I am wondering if there is any reason that I should or should not remove 2008 since I have 2011 (exact same programs).

I currently have the network setup assistant running and configuring - but it's been about an hour and it hasn't done anything. Is there something else i need to do?
It is on my home network which I have been using for months. I have made no changes to my router or network setting. Other devices will still connect to the wifi with no problem and I connect through the ethernet connection with no problem. I have disabled the wifi and restarted my computer with no luck.

the 2.4Ghz Macbook Pro from October 2008, and I was planning on getting 8GB ram, I was wondering if it is possible for me to get 8GB or is 6GB the max for me. I'm running 10.6.2 if this makes a difference? Also if 8GB is not possible for me, and I'm gonna lose dual channel anyway, should I get one 4GB and have 5GB total, or is 2X2GB (retain dual channel) better than 5 (4GB + 1GB) or 6GB (4GB + 2GB) of Ram?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI've currently got a macbook pro which currently has 4Gb ram and I want to know if it can be upgraded to 8Gb. [URL] Mode A1621, Boot Rom MB41.00C1.B03 I've read a number of postings which indicate 4GB is the official supported amount by Apple, 6Gb will work (unofficially) and this posting [URL] indicates some late 2008s can be upgraded to 8gb after a EFI update.. however mine comes up as a MacBook pro 4,1 not 5.1 (shame).Â
- Am I on the latest EFI/Boot Rom? Can I simply install the latest and it will
- Can this machine with the latest boot rom/snow lepoard run to 8Gb ram?Â

I have a 2008 MacBook pro and I turned it off and then later I turned it back on and it sounds like it is loading but the screen is still black and there is no start up noise

I had always read that the max. ram I could install on the Macbook 13inch late 2008 model, model 5,1, 2.4 Ghz, boot rom version MB51.007D.803, SMC Version 1.32f8, was 4GB of ram. I received an add from "Other World Computing"Â stating that I can install 8Gb to this model. I am running Lion and do a lot of photography so the idea of increasing ram is interesting. However, I don't want to waste my money.

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.7.4), 4GB ram
I recently purchased and installed office 2008 for my macbook pro. I had office 2004 before that and all the templates opened up in english. These same templates now open in a different language in office 2008.
View 3 Replies View RelatedMacBook Pro started giving me terrible glitches, Where 1) Applications will quit unexpectedly and 2) I will get the gray cover over the screen with text saying I need to restart my computer.
This is happening quite often and I would really like it to stop..
I noticed it all started happening after I installed ProTools LE.
I've already erased my internal hard drive and reinstalled snow leopard, then put my necessary files back.
I have also upgraded my RAM and HDD, about 3 months ago and it's been working flawless until I installed ProTools LE.
My macbook late 2008 unibody has been a wonderfull companion for the last 2 years but the time has come to give it a slight upgrade.
I'm thinking about upgrading my hard drive.
the need to use parallels and an ever growing photo library are stressing the limits of my current 160GB hard drive.
I am about to upgrade my late 2008 aluminum MacBook 2.4 Ghz to 6GB of ram from owc but wanted to know if the will support 8GB, running at full stability. From what I can tell from other threads is that the owc 8GB kit doesn't work is this correct? If it can handle 8GB of ram I will do that instead of 6GB.
View 20 Replies View RelatedI'm thinking about upgrading to a SSD but wanted to know if my MacBook (see sig) had a Serial ATA speed of 3 Gigabit or 1.5. The System Profiler says :
Vendor:NVidia
Product:MCP79 AHCI
Link Speed:3 Gigabit
Negotiated Link Speed:1.5 Gigabit
Description:AHCI Version 1.20 Supported
under Serial-ATA. So I'm not sure if that means the the port is a 3 Gigabit port but the HD is only 1.5. Does that mean the SATA cable is a 1.5 Gigabit speed, and I'd need a new cable, or what? Also if it is 3 Gigabit port that means it's SATA II, right?
My macbook display is just too small for watching movies at my girl's pad, so I was wondering if I can connect the macbook to her Toshiba TV (non-flat pannel/HD)? What adaptor or connector do I need?

I just enabled filevault for my macbook pro, I was worried about it while on campus and traveling and wanted an added layer of security. Now my powerpoints won't work, they won't even load, this only happened since enabling powerpoint yesterday. Is there anything I can do to make it work or do I need to disable filevault?
View 3 Replies View Relatedwhen I turn on my computer there is a blank screen. You can still hear the normal noises coming from the computer like any normal boot-up. But if I let my computer sit for a while without turning it on, it will turn on with weird almost static noises. If I force shut down then try again, I get the normal boot-up noises. I tried the safe boot-up method, holding down the shift button while turning the computer on, but no dice. I actually tried this method on both the good and static noise boot-up.

On to my question, I have my 24" ACD sitting in my office, and my 2008 Macbook, I want to know if there is a way to connect the ACD to the Macbook. It's not the most important thing in the world, because I'm getting my 17" MBP in Oct., but until then, I would like to use the ACD with my Macbook if possible.

Looking to buy a bigger hard drive for my MBP 15" base model (Late 2008) and was wondering what the max is for that particular model? I currently have a 250GB and am running low on space and needing to upgrade. Also if you have any info on the specific specs i need from a HD that would be awesome.
