Intel Mac :: Freezes And Crashes Randomly
Feb 3, 2012My iMac randomly freezes and crashes on me. Most of the freezes occur when scrolling with my trackpad on websites with Google Chrome. I get the pinwheel and have to use the power button to turn off and on the iMac. I haven't noticed any particular connection to Flash websites or video related sites. It just seems kind of random. I've also been careful to have absolutely nothing else running and it still does not prevent it.
Also, from time to time the iMac will crash and go to a solid color screen. Either Blue-Gray, White or Black. It seems to be random colors. When this happens, I have to use the power button to cycle it off and back on again.
Some info about my iMac: Model Identifier: iMac7,1 Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo Processor Speed: 2 GHz Mac OSX 10.6.8
What could be causing this or how can I diagnose the problem? I can give more info if needed.

May 25, 2012I have a problem with my iMac 24inch Graphic card. Actually I decided to install windows7 on my iMac 24inch early 2009. After the installation of its graphic card (Geforce GT120), the iMac turns off suddenly after a while. I tried to find the solution but I was unable to recognise it. A friend told me that the problem goes back to the bios(firmware) update and I have to update it, but as I'm currently using windows7 I have no idea how to do that.

Apr 3, 2012Typical Apple discussion from browsing the web but I will give it a go. I'm not doing anything to cause it to crash, I deleted mailboxes and just kept iCloud still crash, I just other mailboxes like Gmail and got rid of iCloud still crashed. I deleted RSS feeds still crashed, It still crashes when nothing else is open, I rebuilt my mail library (I will leave that one as a cliff hanger to if it worked or not).
Any ideas or better alternatives to Mail? I don't like outlook and really should never be an option.

Sep 20, 2010I don't know why, but iTunes entirely too often on my computer. I use a 15" MBP running 10.6.4 (The latest version of SL). I'm using iTunes 10, but I was having this issue prior to the update. It crashes seemingly randomly sometimes when I finish an album, sometimes between songs, and sometimes just mid-song. Restarting seemed to help once, but it eventually started crashing again, and all subsequent reboots have had no effect. I have about 21 GB of music, mostly pirated (though let's not get into that debate); I listen to music by the album. My library is completely music (no TV shows, podcasts, etc.). Am I the only one sending them 20 enraged error messages a day?

OS X V10.7 Lion :: 2012 Macbook Pro Crashes And Reboots Randomly?
Jun 21, 2012I just bought my new 2012 macbook pro a couple weeks ago, and so far it has crashed and rebooted by itself four times. Three of those four times, I had only been running a couple programs, such as Chrome and Mail, while all others were closed. the entire computer will freeze for about 6-7 seconds (no response to mouse movement/keyboard) and then shut down and reboot.
Is this a bug with OS X Lion? or the new macbook Pro? or my macbook pro specifically indicating there's some sort of defect?

Hardware :: Using 24inch LED ACD For Gaming?
Mar 11, 2009I'm currently saving my pennies for a new Mac Pro and a 24inch ACD.
For owners who game, is the ACD's 14-second response time a problem? Is there a lot of noticeable ghosting? I play mostly fps's (CS:S, Day of Defeat, CoD, etc...) so this is a big issue for me. I'm dead set on the LED ACD so this is the only potential issue that's might hold me back
IMac :: Operate With Second 24inch Monitor
Sep 10, 2010My grandparents broke their 24in Imac's monitor and it needs a replacement, costing around 800+ dollars. I was wondering if it was possible to operate it with a second monitor and have that one be the main computers display. Is it as simple as connecting the second display or do I have to disconnect the internal monitor? I'm not worried of opening up the computer, its not like I can damage the screen edit: The Imac is out of warranty and is a 2007 or 2008 model. 2.4GHZ C2D 4GB Ram. Thinking seriously of getting an Imac 24" but I would like to be able to edit HD (1080) video on it down the track. Would an Imac cope with this or would a Mac Pro be better (or overkill)and which would be most efficient, the 2.66GHz, 2.93GHz or a 3.06GHz, if I went with an Imac Video card NVIDIA GeForce GT 130 512MB or a # ATI Radeon HD 4850 512MB. Having trawled through the threads, from the beginning of August(I'll go back further later), it's clear that 4 Gb of RAM is certainly enough.

Nov 25, 2010I purchased and installed the Commell MPX-3132 in place of my Airport Card. Installation was very easy and the RAID drivers work perfectly. I cloned my HD to my SSD using CCC and everything shows up fine via ESATA and USB. When I try to boot from it via ESATA it is not recognized, but it boots perfectly from USB. I Booted to it via USB and installed the RAID drivers onto the SSD then tried to boot via ESATA again with no luck. The SSD I bought is the Corsair Force 120 and the enclosure is a Hornettek usb/esata [URL:...] I haven't had a chance to test another enclosure.

Feb 11, 2010Desperate to replace my now too old G5 power Mac, I decided to order a new 27in i mac. I was cheerfully informed by the assistant in my local mac shop that I would have to wait six weeks or so and he would put me on a waiting list. I felt this was unreasonable and thought I had found a clever plan to get something better.So I bought a new 24in display, attached it to my newish laptop and away we went. After a short while I found the whole experience a little lumpywith six connections every time I wanted to take the laptop home. I bought a used power Mac instead, an intel duel 2.66 power mac. I have found out today that according to Apple that there is no connection to be made from the mac to the display, I am gutted and fed up. The display has a bunch of cables coming out, only one choice, mini DV1. The computer has DVI. No adapter is available apparently. Anyone have any suggestions apart from spending nearly ?300 on a Radeon 4870

Oct 23, 2009So after getting a new 24in ACD, after my original ACD had a power supply issue, I am starting to notice that on a black screen (black power point slide shows it the best or a movie in widescreen) there are a few areas on the black screen where there are areas of white when the screen is on. I don't notice any dust under the screen. I am only 3 days into the 14 day return policy, so I am really tempted to just head back to the Apple store and swap it out for another screen. I didn't have this issue with my previous ACD, just the power supply issue.

Mar 1, 2012I have a 2006 IMac that works perfectly except for one thing. One day last year out of the blue the sound stopped working and I would get the 'not allowed' circle when I tried to adjust the volume. the problem persisted for a week or so, then the sound just came back on. Everything was fine untill a month ago when the same thing happened. I did some research and tried the toothpick trick and everything related but nothing worked, then the next morning the sound was on. Over the next few weeks the sound would go on and off randomly for no apparent reason. It has now been off for two solid weeks and I don't know what to do. Is it possibly a loose connection inside the computer that just needs to be plugged in?

Feb 4, 2012my screen is just randomly going dark. its not shuting down - just seems to go to sleep but nothing I do wakes it short of turning the power button off then on. Mar 7, 2012my screen keeps going black randomly but everything in the background is still playing. When i press the power button twice it will go to standby and then turns on again, but the black screen keeps getting more and more frequent. May 3, 2012My iMac sometimes will just randomly start playing music. This just recently started and I haven't made any hardware/software changes at all, last thing I did was update it for printer drivers and that was it. It usually plays at night when I'm sleeping and it starts with the song that's on the top of the list. I've restarted it and everything and can't figure it out. I always leave iTunes running because I have my iPad and iPhones set up for wireless syncing. So I usually just keep the sound off to prevent any random music playing. Oh and there is no remotes connected to it either....
