My imac made louder then usual sound for awhile. At first i thought it might be my HD, so i replaced it. But the sound came back. After few days however, it resided. But now, it's too damn quite. So, using few software utilities, to check up on the temp of the fan, it was only registering 2 out of 3.
View 1 RepliesSo after getting a new 24in ACD, after my original ACD had a power supply issue, I am starting to notice that on a black screen (black power point slide shows it the best or a movie in widescreen) there are a few areas on the black screen where there are areas of white when the screen is on. I don't notice any dust under the screen. I am only 3 days into the 14 day return policy, so I am really tempted to just head back to the Apple store and swap it out for another screen. I didn't have this issue with my previous ACD, just the power supply issue.
View 16 Replies View RelatedMy grandparents broke their 24in Imac's monitor and it needs a replacement, costing around 800+ dollars. I was wondering if it was possible to operate it with a second monitor and have that one be the main computers display. Is it as simple as connecting the second display or do I have to disconnect the internal monitor? I'm not worried of opening up the computer, its not like I can damage the screen edit: The Imac is out of warranty and is a 2007 or 2008 model. 2.4GHZ C2D 4GB Ram. If you need any more info just let me know
View 1 Replies View RelatedI plan to use it for basic home stuff such as photos, video editing (basic), t'internet etc. I dont plan to play any games on it (i have a ps3 and a wii which do a much better jobs me thinks). The question is this: will the low end 24in imac be good enough? there seems to be a lot of negative comments round here on the graphic card. also on a not less serious note, do you find the screen too big on your desk. Is it overwhelmingly big?

Thinking seriously of getting an Imac 24" but I would like to be able to edit HD (1080) video on it down the track. Would an Imac cope with this or would a Mac Pro be better (or overkill)and which would be most efficient, the 2.66GHz, 2.93GHz or a 3.06GHz, if I went with an Imac Video card NVIDIA GeForce GT 130 512MB or a # ATI Radeon HD 4850 512MB. Having trawled through the threads, from the beginning of August(I'll go back further later), it's clear that 4 Gb of RAM is certainly enough.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI purchased and installed the Commell MPX-3132 in place of my Airport Card. Installation was very easy and the RAID drivers work perfectly. I cloned my HD to my SSD using CCC and everything shows up fine via ESATA and USB. When I try to boot from it via ESATA it is not recognized, but it boots perfectly from USB. I Booted to it via USB and installed the RAID drivers onto the SSD then tried to boot via ESATA again with no luck. The SSD I bought is the Corsair Force 120 and the enclosure is a Hornettek usb/esata [URL:...] I haven't had a chance to test another enclosure.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a problem with my iMac 24inch Graphic card. Actually I decided to install windows7 on my iMac 24inch early 2009. After the installation of its graphic card (Geforce GT120), the iMac turns off suddenly after a while. I tried to find the solution but I was unable to recognise it. A friend told me that the problem goes back to the bios(firmware) update and I have to update it, but as I'm currently using windows7 I have no idea how to do that.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm thinking about getting an aluminum iMac in Sept when Snow Leopard releases. I sold my MBP.. which was supposed to be towards a new Mac... but I bought a new Ninja instead and the MBP money went towards my ridiculous insurance premium for the year. lol.
I really want a 24" but I don't want to drop the extra $300. Refurb is an option. As long as it wasn't scratched I wouldn't mine getting a refurb I guess. I currently use the older 17" Apple Studio Display and it's alright. But bigger and something widescreen is needed. 20" would be an improvement but not a HUGE one.
Which screen (20" or 24") has less backlighting issues?
After switching over from a PC several weeks ago everything's going great. On my PC I liked to use the hibernate feature when I was in the middle of something and had to run. I think on the Mac this is called deep sleep, but I can't find the option to do this. Can deep sleep be enabled on an Aluminum iMac?

I love my Mac and would never go back to a PC now, BUT (you knew that was coming) I have recently (unfortunately I don't know exactly when) developed a problem in that my iMac will not auto sleep. The screensaver will kick in OK, but it will not go to sleep on its own. I can put it to sleep from the menu manually, but not by the setting in System Preferences. I have reset the PRAM, and the SMC and neither of those changes have worked. Have any of you had this issue and solved it?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have two 512mb 667MHz DDR2 DIMMS from an old first generation Intel iMac. Would one of these DIMMS work in the Aluminum iMac running a single 1GB 800MHz DDR2 DIMM? Common sense tells me "No" and that this combination could cause Kernal Panics, etc with different speeds of RAM installed. However, I thought it was worth asking since I have these two DIMMS sitting here doing nothing and my mate could use the extra memory for free.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a problem but it's not mine it's my girlfriends. My girlfriend cannot seem to type correct words on her keyboard, due to water exposure. Now whenever she wants to type something it won't let her. We tried different methods; unplugging computer power cord, keyboard, and replug everything back in after 15-20 seconds. No luck. I also had her try to do the pram reset, didn't work as well. I suggest that she re-install osx with the disc or with the new snow leopard disc, to do a clean installation of the snow leopard but we haven't tried that yet.
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen I took my new Imac 24 out of the box last week, instantly i noticed about 3 or 4 dead pixels, they aren't too bad but it's only of those things you don't expect with a new computer and it can be quite distracting once you know they are there.... if i were to contact the place of purchase in regards to this do you feel i would be over-reacting to have it replaced or repaired or should i just suck it up?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI received my very first apple computer yesterday. It was the 27inch i7 with 8gig of ram. I turned it on for the first time and it looked perfect. When the loading wheel came up on the white screen I noticed a dead pixel right next to it. I looked over the rest of the screen and I could not find another one. I ended up calling and asking for a new imac. The first person on the phone said they usually only do replacements for 4 or more dead pixels. After I explained that it is right in the middle and I noticed it the first time I turned it on he forwarded me to someone else and they got me a shipping code. I not am waiting another week for a new computer. Is it normal for people to return their machines for one dead pixel? The guy on the phone made it sound like it was no big deal.

For owners who game, is the ACD's 14-second response time a problem? Is there a lot of noticeable ghosting? I play mostly fps's (CS:S, Day of Defeat, CoD, etc...) so this is a big issue for me. I'm dead set on the LED ACD so this is the only potential issue that's might hold me back
I tam trying to add a 75 GB partition to my aluminum iMac's internal HD using Leopard's Disk Utility, but after 7 hours the striped bar appears not to have made any progress and still says "Modifying Partition Map". How long does this usually take? Is this normal?
View 16 Replies View RelatedI have a 2.4 Ghz Core 2 Duo 20" Aluminum iMac. I often have a problem with my mouse not working when booting. I turn the computer on, and more than half the time, the mouse infrared thing on the bottom turns on then goes by the time the blue screen comes. Then I have to reboot again, and usually about 3 times before it finally works. I use the Mighty Mouse connected to the Apple Keyboard connected to a USB extension cable. I tried it without that but it still didn't work. Any suggestions would be great. If none of them work, I will contact AppleCare as I am still under warranty.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI bought my aluminum imac when it was released in late 2007. I had a 1 gigabyte stick up until now, but I decided to upgrade to 2x2 gigabyte sticks. When I took out the 1 stick and placed the new ones in, my computer would sound like it turned on, but the system really did not boot up. I have tried many configurations to see what the problem with the RAM is, and all I could figure out is that the computer will only boot up if the original 1 gig stick is in one slot. I checked both sticks with this, and they seem to register on my mac when I check the "About This Mac" section. Basically, I get a black screen if I use only a 2 gig stick, or both 2 gig sticks. I can have a maximum of 3 gigs so far, but I really would like all 4 that I paid for. I'm not so sure that it's a problem with the ram, especially because it is recognized by the system, but it can't boot up the system, so I am simply dumbfounded. Anyone have an idea what the problem is? I just recently installed Snow Leopard prior to getting the RAM if that has any importance.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently bought an used iMac (was purchased new in feburary 2009) in which I knew the screen was not showing any video when I bought it. ( I was okay with that I thought I'd give it a go at fixing) well the problem seems to be within the LCD itself. When I hit the power button I hear the chime, fan spins, and the hard drive does it's thing. I ended up taking the casing off the iMac to where it only shows the bottom half of the insides underneath the LCD. My question is now to diagnose what exactly is wrong with it by using the 4 led lights. I have searched the forums and the Internet up and down for which ones mean what but I have only found out information on older iMacs. When my iMac is off (still plugged in) LED 1 is on. When I turn the iMac on LED 1,2, and 3 are green. Which that leaves the 4th LED not being lit up at all. I suspect this has something to do with the iMac not showing any video but as I said I am not sure because I cannot find any information on it anywhere.
View 4 Replies View Relatedmy warranty isn't good anymore and that both my HDD as well as my DVD-Drive in my first gen (Core Duo) Intel iMac have broken, I would like to have a new dvd drive to put in it as well as know what kind of HDD I can buy to put in. Also, I heard that you need a special screwdriver to open it up??? Finally, would it be a lot cheaper doing it myself, or would the better decision be to go to the apple store and have them fix it for me and pay the repair price? I don't think I would have any problems fixing it myself if I knew what components to buy if I took my time to do it.

I read a few posts about dead pixels on the iSight, so I thought I'd post this picture to see what other people think. This is a screenshot straight from Photobooth, showing the image from my iSight when the black cleaning cloth is held up to it. No, those marks are not dirt (on the outside anyway). Other that this, my iMac is fine with the exception of a single dead pixel (I thought this was a thing of the past, but oh well) and I'm not 100% about whether or not I have the yellow screen issue, so I'll ignore it for now.

It drives me absolutely CRAZY...probably because I paid $900 for this display. I can't remember ever having a problem pixel on another display...all of them cheaper. So I'm curious about the iMac owners. Is a dead/stuck pixel here and there an expected thing for iMac owners?
View 24 Replies View Related2 weeks ago I finally decided to order an iMac, despite all of the issues I had been hearing about with the display. I figured that I was going to be one of the lucky ones and have no issues whatsover. I was ordering a brand new machine and it should be fine.After about 30 minutes of getting things up and running, and while a webpage with a good bit of white background was open, I noticed the dead pixel (pixels?). As the question mark shows, I'm not really sure if this is considered one pixel or many. So I figured I'd let the gurus like Hellhammer tell me. The first picture is zoomed out and is of the bottom left hand corner where the dead pixel(s) is. I apologize for the spots around it, that is actually inside the camera body itself I think (Nikon D40x) and I can't seem to get them cleaned off. That's another issue....sigh. The second is a very close in picture of the area. I photoshopped the lense spots out to see it better.Individual pixles are visible. This to me looks like 5 dead ones in a diagonal row.
View 7 Replies View RelatedMy new iMac i5 (Mid 2010) is dead... after only 3 days using it...I was watching a movie in quicktime and suddenly all screen was messed up (lots of artifacts and coloful pixels all around).
It looks definitely a hardware problem (I would say a graphics card) anybody knows anyone else having the same problem? Tomorrow first thing in the morning I'll be going back to the store and returning it. I hope to get all my money back (2.000 Euros).
