OS X V10.7 Lion :: Mail Randomly Crashes?
Apr 3, 2012
Typical Apple discussion from browsing the web but I will give it a go. I'm not doing anything to cause it to crash, I deleted mailboxes and just kept iCloud still crash, I just other mailboxes like Gmail and got rid of iCloud still crashed. I deleted RSS feeds still crashed, It still crashes when nothing else is open, I rebuilt my mail library (I will leave that one as a cliff hanger to if it worked or not). Â
Any ideas or better alternatives to Mail? I don't like outlook and really should never be an option.

I just bought my new 2012 macbook pro a couple weeks ago, and so far it has crashed and rebooted by itself four times. Three of those four times, I had only been running a couple programs, such as Chrome and Mail, while all others were closed. the entire computer will freeze for about 6-7 seconds (no response to mouse movement/keyboard) and then shut down and reboot. Â
Is this a bug with OS X Lion? or the new macbook Pro? or my macbook pro specifically indicating there's some sort of defect?

My mail application crashes every time I try to either compose a new mail or reply to a mail.Â
I recently migrated from a old MBP to a new one and only after that have started noticing this issue.
I was already using Lion on my old MBP and continue to do the same on the new machine. I am on Mail Version 5.2 (1257) and OS - Mac OS X Version 10.7.3Â

My iMac randomly freezes and crashes on me. Most of the freezes occur when scrolling with my trackpad on websites with Google Chrome. I get the pinwheel and have to use the power button to turn off and on the iMac. I haven't noticed any particular connection to Flash websites or video related sites. It just seems kind of random. I've also been careful to have absolutely nothing else running and it still does not prevent it. Â
Also, from time to time the iMac will crash and go to a solid color screen. Either Blue-Gray, White or Black. It seems to be random colors. When this happens, I have to use the power button to cycle it off and back on again.Â
Some info about my iMac: Model Identifier: iMac7,1 Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo Processor Speed: 2 GHz Mac OSX 10.6.8Â
What could be causing this or how can I diagnose the problem? I can give more info if needed.

I don't know why, but iTunes entirely too often on my computer. I use a 15" MBP running 10.6.4 (The latest version of SL). I'm using iTunes 10, but I was having this issue prior to the update. It crashes seemingly randomly sometimes when I finish an album, sometimes between songs, and sometimes just mid-song. Restarting seemed to help once, but it eventually started crashing again, and all subsequent reboots have had no effect. I have about 21 GB of music, mostly pirated (though let's not get into that debate); I listen to music by the album. My library is completely music (no TV shows, podcasts, etc.). Am I the only one sending them 20 enraged error messages a day?

Safari crashes randomly, meaning that it sometimes is running in the beackground and I am not doing anything with it. It seems that this problem only exists since I have done the following changes: I updated the Adobe Flash Player and I downloaded and installed Minecraft for Mac (I did not play it, since I forgot it was not for free ^^).

I use Mac OS X Mail and generally have very few issues. However, I ocassionally receive emails which I know are formatted as HTML, but they nevertheless show up as text... and sort of jumbled text at that (i.e., with URL links expanded inline and other issues that cause the email to be difficult to read). It doesn't happen extremely often, but it does happen often enough to be annoying. I have Mail sync'ed to several accounts: one POP3, and two IMAP as I recall. It has happened with emails retrieved from each service at one time or another.Â
As I understand it, an HTML email usually also contains a text version within the content... and each mail client has to recognize a given email as either HTML or text (or RTF). Indeed, I can view the raw source for the email in Mail, and I see in the payload of the email statements such as "This is a multi-part message in MIME format" followed by sections denoted as Content-Type: text/plain; charset="utf-8" Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64 and later as Content-Type: text/html; charset="utf-8" Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64. It just seems that Mail occassionally ignores the text/html section.Â
Is there a way to force Mail to switch display of a given message to HTML or to text? I see options to select "Text Encoding" under the Message menu bar option, various stylistic choices under the Format header, and even the View Raw Source option under View | Message menu bar option. This last option (View | Message) also has some options regarding display "alternatives" (plaintext, best, next, etc) but all are greyed-out. Perhaps this is the issue and Mail is simply not understanding the HTML due to a slight mistake in the format of the content and it thinks it is only displayable as plain text?

Everything works like a charm..

This began happening recently on my late 2011 MacBook Pro. Nothing new was added. I try to print a message and the application crashes. When I restart it, it's okay. Then it happens again, but only some of the time. Here's the error message. (I found the same error in another query to this community, but there were no answers.)

My mac mail application crashes right when it is opened. Currently I only have my iCloud email and my Gmail being used in Mail. I have narrowed it down to Gmail because it does not crash once that account is removed.

I use Mail on 10.9.3 with multiple IMAP accounts (but almost nothing the servers, all local in many folders). In the last days Mail started to crash several times a day, mostly when I interact with messages (replies, moving to folders, attachment stuff etc.) I am too fast for Mail - but that never was the case before and I have a fast machine and Internet connection.

I haven't installed any plug ins, altered the accounts, or done anything different in mail today. For some reason, it all of the sudden stopped opening - can't even get a main screen up when I launch it. I've tried deleting plists, holding shift on start up, checked for any problematic mail being downloaded via my iPad, repaired permissions and even tried to launch yesterday's version from Time machine. I've tried opening Mail without being on the internet too. I have an exchange account and a mobile me account on there, and both have been working perfectly until today. I have a 2009 Unibody Macbook Pro running 10.6.4. My crash report is almost twice the length of the allowed word count so can't post it - is there a specific section I should cut and paste?

My Mail constantly crashes after a few minutes as of the last few weeks. I launch it, leave it in background and get the "unexpected exit" error. I've embedded the error log at the bottom of this message. Basically other than that, ive tried moving ~/Library/Mail across to a temp folder, launching mail and then closing it and moving back my mail folder back and still get the error. Checked that i dont have any to-do list items in my iCal and yeah. still get this error.

I started having problems with mail a day or so ago, and it has gone from bad to worse to FUBAR.
Mail 1.3.11
Os X 10.3.9
1.33 Ghz PB G4 17"
First I was having crashes when downloading new messages. It became more frequent and got to the point where I can't get any new messages in from the queue. In activity viewer I see that it is getting headers, but it will get to a certain point and just crash. I took all of my mailboxes out of the directory, started mail and reimported them, then set up my accounts again.
When it went online to reload my IMAP inbox, 3000+ messages, it got maybe halfway through then crashed. It doesn't even pick up where it left off when I start it up again. So not only can I not check my new messages, I don't even have the old ones where I can easily read them. I have access to the server my mail is on to read them through a web browser, but sending mail through it does not work right now so I am really screwed.

I'm able to open the app but it won't display any of the actual details of my emails. When I try to open them standalone the app crashes too. Tried googling for fixes, most of them include Terminal which seemingly won't open anymore either.Â
Must note that I haven't deleted anything or downloaded anything untoward since this error started occurring. Â

My mid-2014 15" Macbook Pro randomly "loses" its retina display at the top menu (becomes pixel-y), where the battery, sound, and wifi logos are (on the top right side of the screen). A restart fixes the issue, but I want to know if this is an issue that can be fixed?Â
