View 13 Replies View RelatedIts a G5 iMac ihave been using for abt three years now. first i got the vertical stripes about two months ago and today when i tried to switch it on, it won't. I turned it off last night after use and when i tried this afternoon, it was hot and it does not turn on?
Is this the end of her life? has anyone face this before?
My macbook tends to make noise when I close it, this only happens when my mac is heated up, and it disturbs me because I bring my macbook to school and it's embarrassing when your mac makes those noises. Is it because of the screws? My contract is out of date, and I don't want to attempt anything. Also, my macbook been dropping connections since I upgraded to Snow Leopard, will 10.6.2 be able to fix this update?

I want to buy the 27" iMac - but only if I can use it as external monitor for my Lenovo laptop when working from home. A the Apple store in London they said that this is possible with a Belkin converter from hdmi to mini display port (with a USB power caple to turn it into an active signal). The laptop also has a displayport.

Anything new on getting my current model iMac to act as an external monitor for an older mbp with mini-display port? I mean screen sharing does work, but it would be nice to do it the right way if possible.

I see the two blue boxes, put them side by side, open Netflix and cannot figure out how to go from there

I have iMac 27" with thunderbolt connectivity in it. Is it possible to connect an external computer (with or without a converter) to use the iMac's Display? If possible, kindly let me know how.Â

I am looking around for a reasonably priced PC monitor to use as an extended desktop/palette monitor for my iMac 27".I have a range of video adaptors so should be able to connect to most cables but it seems that PC monitors these days come with VGA/HDMI connectors and I am not finding many with DVI which would be my preference. I understand HDMI is basically for TV/Video connections, how good is it for a computer display?

iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.3), The closest you'll ever get to there, is here.
use the newest model iMac 27inch as a display for the newest model Mac Pro (desktop tower). The latest Mac Pro has DVI and DisplayPort out and the iMac obviously has thunderbolt, usb, and firewire. I've discovered that there isn't really a way to get thunderbolt on the Mac Pro unless someone knows something I don't. If it's the case that thunderbolt can't be added to the current Mac Pro (be it by a new video card, or otherwise), I'm wondering if I could use a DVI to USB adapter to display it on the iMac. Â
I guess the takeaway here is that I don't need a virtual solution. Primarily, I use screen sharing via gigabit ethernet to access it. However, when you need a physical hardware monitor (let's say when you restart your machine or need to boot outside of OS X), you can't use the virtual options. I need to be able to use it independently, like a traditional monitor setup.

I want to hook up a second display to my new intel imac--what cable do i need to use?? I have bought 4 now and they are not the right ones. I am trying to connect a 17 inch apple LCD display as a secondary screen for my imac. my goal is to use the imac for vocal recordings ( already set) and the 17 inch for script reading in my vocal booth.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI started noticing what I describe as ant-lines running vertically across my late 2009 27" iMac. I am fairly certain that they were not there before but I can't really remember. I did a search and found some discussions regrading video issues and vertical line anomalies but none like what I am seeing. url...It's noticable from a distance of about 2 feet and closer. It's not visible on white or black but midtones is where I see it. It gets really distracting at about 20" and closer, especially in iPhoto when scrolling through photos.Has anyone else seen anything like this and do you guys think I will have any luck getting something like this fixed with a Genius appointment? I do still have AppleCare.

I purchased an iMac 27in with an i7 quad core, 8G of memory, and 1G video memory. I have up dated all software to current levels, the display jumping still persists. it happens when the mouse pointer is dragged across the dock or installing something from a disk or downloading from the internet. What could be the possible cause?

iMac has no video but is operating as normal otherwise. I have attached a second monitor via the mini-display port but the 2nd monitor has a galaxy screen saver that is replaced by a second screen having two small areas at the top labelled Dashboard and Desktop which is the galaxy screen saver when I press the F3 key. How do I get the iMac's desktop on the 2nd screen if I can't see preferences on the iMac screen?

I have an early 2006 Intel iMac 17" with a Core Duo 1.83 GHz processor and the 128MB ATI Radeon X1600 GPU. I am planning on adding an external display to my iMac, probably a Dell Ultrasharp 23" with a resolution of 1920 x 1080. What I want to know is, what impact will running an 2nd display have on my iMac's frail and poorly cooled GPU?
At present, my GPU runs at around 45-50 C idle, and 60-65 C under gaming use. I have been considering opening my iMac again to clean all the dust out and renew the thermal paste on the GPU but simply haven't gotten around to this just yet. If the GPU is likely to run much hotter if a display is connected?
