iMac has no video but is operating as normal otherwise. I have attached a second monitor via the mini-display port but the 2nd monitor has a galaxy screen saver that is replaced by a second screen having two small areas at the top labelled Dashboard and Desktop which is the galaxy screen saver when I press the F3 key. How do I get the iMac's desktop on the 2nd screen if I can't see preferences on the iMac screen?

I am looking for a display to use with my Powerbook G4 12". I am in love with the 30" cinema display, but according to technical support today, my setup is not compatible (supposedly, but the person on the phone didn't sound to sure). I have a mini DVI, but the 30" requires a dual DVI. I think the 23" display requires DVI, which I can attain with an adapter. Does anyone have suggestions for what I can use with my computer? The bigger the better for me. Also what do you think of the older (plastic case) apple displays?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI finally got my 62" Plasma .. and I want to watch movies with it using my MacBook unibody... I already have mini Dp --> HDMI adapter which works flawless, but My macbook is sitting on the desk about 5 m to the right of the screen so I can't see my mouse moving on the Plasma. When I choose to clone the screen, it will set the Plasma to my Macbook's Resolution, which is not what I had in mind... is there any way i can set my macbooks resloution to FULL-HD?I know my screen can only display 1280x800 pixel at once, but is there a way to make OSX think that this is a Full HD screen? so kinda like a little bit zoomed in Full HD display ? I would be fine if it could work like the magnifying glass (ctrl + scroll)
the second option would be to buy a external 22-24" Full HD monitor for my Desk and a HDMI Y Splitter, i have a 22" but its not full HD (16:10) would that work better if I just use that instead of the built in macbook screen (+ aHDMI y Splitter)
I have been running my macbook pro open, with a single monitor running beside it. I have come to the conclusion that I would benefit from two large monitors while working at home.
I know I need to buy the dualhead2go DP edition, but what Im not sure about is the cables I need to hook up to my monitors. I haven't yet decided what two monitors I am going to hook up to it, although they will be exactly the same and have HDMI connections.
What I am planning on doing is Getting the Dual Head 2 go, along with 2 DisplayPort to HDMI converters, and 2 HDMI cables, Correct me if Im wrong, but this should work?
Also, If anyone is currently using a dual head to go, how is the performance? I wont be doing any gaming, so that is not an issue, but for day to day tasks I assume everything will run fine? Im running the 330 in my 15' MBP.
My current set up consists of a unibody Macbook Pro and a 20" iMac. I use my computers for video editing and watching films/tv shows. I'm considering selling my iMac and replacing it with a 24" Cinema Display. I wanted to know if anyone else has done this, and what their experience of the resulting set up s (that is, Macbook Pro and cinema display).
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am right now looking at the Cinema Display (probably the specific model for me is the M9177LL/A) to attach to my Mac mini. I did search but couldn't find the answer to this: Does this display support using the brightness controls that are on my aluminum wireless keyboard or would I have to use the controls on the panel itself? Just curious since I already like how it matches the rest of the setup, how about use the buttons that are on the keyboard?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am running SL and Mail 4.3 connecting to GMail (IMAP). I have an iMac and Macbook. Accounts on both are set up the same (as far as I can see) but both display different folders under GMail.
iMac has:
All mail
Bin
Drafts
Sent Mail
Spam
Starred
Macbook has:
All mail
Spam
Starred
Id like to get it like the macbook setup where it uses the mac sent icon rather than displaying the sent mail folder and likewise with the trash icon and the bin folder...
I'm on a new 21inch iMac (3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 8GB 1067b MHz DDR3, running 10.6.2) and I'm having problems in iCal (version 4.0.1) when I'm adding new events. When I add the event all goes fine until I come to put the time in. It seems to stick to 24hours display (08.00) but if I try to do likewise eg: 16.00 it changes first to 01.00 then 06.00.
Then lets just say I have a long meeting that runs from 09.00 to 12.00, the 09.00 time goes in fine but then it changes the 12.00 to 10.00. I've had a good look in preferences but I can't see anything I'm missing like a maximum length of meeting being set at 2hrs. I've tried having the day run from 1am in the morning to midnight, using 12 or 24hrs displayed at one time, and can't seem to crack it.
I have a unibody Macbook pro and an Apple 24" display. This work fine but I also have a Samsung 22" display that I like to hook to my setup (never enough desktop space).
View 3 Replies View RelatedI want to buy the 27" iMac - but only if I can use it as external monitor for my Lenovo laptop when working from home. A the Apple store in London they said that this is possible with a Belkin converter from hdmi to mini display port (with a USB power caple to turn it into an active signal). The laptop also has a displayport.

I have a 2009 imac with snow leopard. I want to set up my time machine with an external USB or Firewire hard drive, but I'm not sure which would be better or less costly. Need some advice on which brands would be best. I have a My Book on USB right now, but as it's configured for both Mac and Windows files (I use Parallels) I cannot use it for Time Machine. Also, I've been reading that rebooting through Time Machine could take a long time, but if i could partition the new drive and make some of it a reboot disk alone, that would be faster. I don't know how to do that, or which external drive to get that would work best for that arrangement.

My brother is going to start school in June for Film. He is all set to buy a Mac and knows the software side of things but not so much the Hardware side.
I have a few questions:
1. Should extra hard drives be bought third party?
2. Should he do a raid setup for backups?
3. How much memory should he buy for Final Cut operations? (third party)
4. Should he look into getting a Dell monitor instead of Apple? What is a comparable Dell monitor?
5. 4-Core or 8-Core?
6. Any other knowledgeable Mac Pro buying advice

I am trying to setup a firefighter's apple laptop into our linksys net at firestation. She got access fine when we did not have it secured but now we setup a wep key. All other members can get in by entering wep key when they choose the wireless router but when we input the wep key to apple laptop airport I think we get connection error. Key is definitely right. What changed in the apple setup other than the wep key, again when signal was unsecure laptop safari worked fine. The linksys is a B about 3 years old.
