Intel Mac :: Changed HDD And Now Fans Work ALL The TIME (7,1 - Mid 2007)?

Feb 19, 2012

I have an imac 7,1 - intel core 2 duo, 2,4GHz, that is 20" from mid 2007 with an HARD DISC:  Western digital : WD3200AAJS - (320GB) that died.so I bought a NEW HDD: Western digital: WD10EARX - (1TB): Caviar green series I changed step by step the HDD and reconnected everything and all went well, until I re-started the iMac. After approx. 2-3 min the HDD Fan began to increase in speed and since then I have tried everything that I found on the net and nothing worked to slow down the fans.

That is the external temp sensor is set in the same way as it was on the old HDD.  I reset the SMC  and the PRAM several times, actually oppened and checked all cable conections three times. I installed the SMC fan control - no difference, the HDD fan control demo version - no difference. THUS the problem is that the FANS do not stop working as if the comp is on fire.

Intel Mac :: 24" (mid 2007) Black Boot Screen, Fans Run Normal, HDD Spins, Optical Drive Spins?

Jun 15, 2012

So my girlfriend boss wanted me to fix her computer. So I brought it home turned it on, and it didnt chime but it booted to the gray screen with apple logo/ slashed circle/and folder with a "?" So I made a USB Mac OS x bootable drive (FLASH) held down alt (try using a windows keyboard its fun)  was able to select option and install a fresh copy. all seemed well was running really hot so I poped of the screen. HOLY MOLY! this thing is CAKED with dust, and I am not kidding it has literally piles of dust. So I ran updates, and did firmware updates. Turned it off for the night.

The next morning I went to radio shack and got Dust remove spray, opened it up made sure I was carful taking off the screen, and blew the sucker out. now its NICE and CLEAN. then i made sure I plugged everything in and turned it on. Drive spun like normal, Optical checked for a CD, and fans are also running normally. but no chime, no nothing stays as silent as normal but doesnt budge, it is like it hangs.

Mac Mini :: Used Intel 2007 Audio Will Not Work?

Apr 13, 2012

Have it hooked up to creature speakers, which never had an issue before.  Sometimes if I fix disk permissions (which disk utility points out but never really fixes) and zap the PRAM, after a few restarts the audio will work.  But right now mac mini is acting like it isn't connected to its speakers.  Even the internal one. The previous owner did upgrade the RAM to 3 gigs...

MacBook Air :: Fans Does Not Work And Stays At 0 RPM

Apr 24, 2008

My MBA is 1.6/80. The fan does not work suddenly and stays at 0 rpm (istat pro, smcfancontrol), no matter how many times I've restarted it. I've been using coolbook to adjust voltage and smcfancontrol to adjust the max fan speed, but do not think it is really the culprit as there are other reported cases online. I've run the hardware test and there was an error shown: "4MOT/1/40000002:Exhaust-0". Also it shows in the activity monitor the UserEventAgent(117) is not responding.

The weather in the UK now is around 13 and the temp of my MBA is hovering between 62-70 C (istat-pro) in-door all the time, just surfing the net! I've been loving this machine up till the moment the fan stopped. It is really frustrating as this is my first intel mac, and the fact that i'm relying on it for preparing notes for the approaching exams makes it even worse. I really doubt its reliability at the moment.

PowerPC :: PowerMac G5 Has 4 CPU Fans But Only Two Can Work?

Sep 17, 2009

My CPU fans for proc.A are near-constantly capped at 300rpm(system minimum), no matter how damn fast the B-fans spin to compensate.I have: Kept it clean inside. Kept CPU settings on Highest, as usual, but tried Reduced/Auto Repaired permissions Reset the PRAM Reset the PMU Booted into single-user mode Reinstalled Leopard
Obtained & ran Service Diagnostic CD and passed all tests Re-calibrated the CPU's only to notice the speeds now hover around 400rpm now What more can I possibly try? I don't believe a re-seating of CPU's is in order. They work great. All my fans & temperature sensors passed their diagnostics tests, too.I am very irritated by the noise of 2/4 fans overcompensating and getting very loud, from 2000rm-4000rpm, and hey, my Mac is screwed up, and I really need to fix this.

Mac Pro :: Airport Extreme Card & (2007) - Not Work?

Mar 14, 2008

I got a new Mac Pro in December of 2007 that came without an Airport card installed. I'm now looking into getting one to install myself, however I'm a bit confused as to what card to buy. The one available on the Apple website says it is incompatible with Mac Pro's introduced in 2005. So I'm assuming that will not work. I've looked online and have found some like this with model number MB363Z/A.

I THINK this is what I want, however when I enter that model number into google and search a bit I find that some websites have it listed as Airport Extreme Wireless Card for Mac Pro (2008). Now, what I'm wondering is if this will work for my Mac Pro that I got in December of 2007, or not.

PowerPC :: G5 Fans Run Full Speed All The Time?

Sep 3, 2010

My step-son works for a company that uses a variety of computers in their test dept. and when they upgraded the test equipment they gave the old stuff to employees. My step-son is a dyed-in-the-wool PC guy who doesn't care for Macs so when he saw a G5 PPC sitting there he took it home and gave it to me.

It's a 2.0 GHz dual-processor with 8x AGP video. I checked it out and the only thing "wrong" with it is that someone has set up the fans, all of them, to run full-speed all the time.First, how did they most likely do that and, second, how can I return the fans to their normal operation. This can't be good for the computer and it's so loud and annoying that I'd rather use my G4.It's a great computer otherwise, I hope they didn't do something permanent that would require a new motherboard, that's not in my budget.

MacBook Pro :: Fans Running High All Time

Feb 24, 2012

Last summer my MBP 2.3 GHz C2D was heating up so much, you barely could touch it. So I decided to give it a little hardware checkup. Finding the fans completely stuffed with dust

But after a while i recognized that the fans went on high rpms (around 6000) already at startup and did not lessen anymore. I do not have any high capacity processes running and the temperatures are not just not warm buth rather chilly, so no need for high fan speed. Now I want to solve this problem as well but seemingly nothing will work.

MacBook Pro :: Fans Suddenly Making Wierd Noises / Fans Are Hitting Something?

Jul 27, 2009

the other day i wake up and open my macbook pro and immediately heard the fan making noises ive never heard it make before. i checked istat pro. the fans were going at 2000rpm. this is when i started to get concerned since i would never hear the fans at that speed before. the difference was day and night. it sounds like the one or both of the fans are hitting something. i always hear the noise when i start up or wake up from sleep and after a while (30 minutes to an hour) it usually goes away but has come back once without me turning off or putting the computer to sleep. its a refurbished less than a little more than a month ago. im hoping its just some dirt that made it through keyboard and will eventually go away because i dont want to send my machine in to get manhandled by apple repair. has anyone had something like this happen before?

Applications :: Backing Up MB - 2007 - To An External USB Drive Using Time Machine

Apr 10, 2009

I'm currently backing up my MB (2007) to an external USB drive using Time Machine.

I also have a 250gb external drive full of everything I need for work and my music collection. Basically I've realised that if this drive goes down I will probably not be able to do my job, and won't have anything fun to do the rest of the time either because all my stuff will be gone!

This data drive is used daily on Windows XP, 2000 and Vista machines so it's formatted in FAT or NTFS (can't remember which) that Time Machine won't back up from. So TM isn't an option.

Do any of you backup experts know if there's a piece of Mac software or a particular model of external drive that I can get to basically synchronise TWO external drives? I need to be able to back up my external data onto another external drive on a daily basis so I can sleep at night.

IMac :: RPM Speeds Of Fans Increase And Boot Time Doubled

Jun 23, 2009

My iMac seems to be a lot more noisier (a low humming noise, maybe the fans), than it was when I purchased it in a couple of months ago. When I first got it, it was the quietness and boot time which I was impressed with more than anything. Now it's noisier and boot times have doubled. I have noticed that the fans for for HD and CPU constantly spin at 1200rpm or more, with no applications open and as soon as I switch on my iMac.

MacBook :: All Of A Sudden Crashed - Fans Are Full Blast All The Time

Jul 1, 2014

I have a white MacBook and its three years old. It all of a sudden crashed last night and when I switched it back on the fans were running full, the time set to 1-1-2001 12:00am and there is an X through the battery sign. When I click on the battery charge symbol it says " No Batteries Available" although it clearly does as it runs without needing a charger. And then there’s the fan.

It started running at full speed (like I was playing a game or something) and it just runs like that all the time. I have restarted my computer and shut it down several times and the only problem fixed is the time. Also when the screen is shut it doesn’t go to sleep or even show signs that the lid is shut? I haven’t done anything to dislodge the sensor so I don’t know what the problem is.

OS X :: Why Does Time Machine Back Up More Data Than Changed On My HD

May 29, 2009

I have a new iMac that backs up regularly with Time Machine. I find that the Time Machine backups are for more data than my iMac hard drive changes. For example, yesterday it did three backups that I noticed. One was for about 300MB and the other for about 700MB and one for 2 MB. Right now it is doing a 1GB backup. The only changes I did to the iMac between yesterday and today were a few e-mail downloads (not more than 2MB) and a few pictures were imported (about 30MB).

Does anybody know why Time Machine is backing up so much data when nothing is changing on my Mac? My entire hard drive is about 62GB right now and it started at about 58GB. My Time Capsule hard drive that hosts the TM backups has used about 130GB of data. It had only used about 60GB of data after the initial backup about a month ago.
