Have it hooked up to creature speakers, which never had an issue before. Sometimes if I fix disk permissions (which disk utility points out but never really fixes) and zap the PRAM, after a few restarts the audio will work. But right now mac mini is acting like it isn't connected to its speakers. Even the internal one. The previous owner did upgrade the RAM to 3 gigs...

I have an imac 7,1 - intel core 2 duo, 2,4GHz, that is 20" from mid 2007 with an HARD DISC: Western digital : WD3200AAJS - (320GB) that died.so I bought a NEW HDD: Western digital: WD10EARX - (1TB): Caviar green series I changed step by step the HDD and reconnected everything and all went well, until I re-started the iMac. After approx. 2-3 min the HDD Fan began to increase in speed and since then I have tried everything that I found on the net and nothing worked to slow down the fans.
That is the external temp sensor is set in the same way as it was on the old HDD. I reset the SMC and the PRAM several times, actually oppened and checked all cable conections three times. I installed the SMC fan control - no difference, the HDD fan control demo version - no difference. THUS the problem is that the FANS do not stop working as if the comp is on fire.

Happy to find any solution to this including an HDMI splitter box, mac mini solution, anything from Matrox or Blackmagic design, or if it is more cost effective even buying a new imac if it can output two video signals at the same time. I just took possession of a C2D Mini. I am unable to get digital audio to work so far. I use the same cable and receiver connections that I use on my 2009 Mini so I know they're good, but nothing. When I plug the cable in, it mutes the internal speaker, so it's detecting the audio cable. System Prefs > Audio shows digital audio, and won't let me adjust volume as I'd expect. I've tried a shared iTunes library as well as web based audio, but no luck.
Connections: DVI-HDMI converter out to a 32" 1080p Sony TV.
Digital audio with mini-toslink to receiver.
Power, LAN, Apple Keyboard. Nothing else hooked up yet.

I have an early 09 mini, and have a problem with skype. I have a new logitec c500 webcamera that works with my pc. The skype account works with my first gen black macbook, but on the newer mini I can see myself but the audio does not work. The cam connects to one of the usb ports and I've configured sounds to "unrecognized usb sound device" that came up after I plugged the camera in the mini, but on the "test calls" I still can't hear myself. The skype for mac is a beta, but others seem to do ok.

I've tried installing Boot Camp from my Leopard DVD (Win 7 didn't like either of my Mac Pro's discs), installing the Boot Camp 2.1 update, and removing all audio devices and forcing Windows to search for new drivers.
Anyone know what's going on? I was previously running Vista, but I heard games run better under Windows 7, and it was time to wipe the drive fresh anyway, so I thought I'd give it a shot. Any help so I don't have to roll back to Vista would be much appreciated.
Update: This is even stranger. Turns out audio *is* working, but it is incredibly faint. I'm cranking volume up on my external speakers far beyond anything I would regularly listen to, and I can barely hear streaming music from sites like Lala or Last.fm. I checked the volume mixer and all my levels are up at 100, it's like there is some kind of extremely low audio level limit being enforced before it gets out to the hardware.

We successfully hooked it up last night, and the video worked. I was told in the store that this setup would not transfer audio, so I already knew there would not be sound coming from the TV, rather from the Macbook instead. My Q is: What's the easiest way to get audio to come from the TV? I'd rather not buy external speakers to plug in, if I can help it.
I have attached my Mac mini to my Sony TV (to use as a moniter) - there hasn't been any trouble with the picture but I cannot get any sound.
I am using a VGA (I know that doesn't send audio over) plugged into the 'PC In' port at the back of my tv, and I am using an audio cable with a normal headphone-type jack on one end (going into the headphone port on the back of my mac mini) and the red/white cable going into the HDMI-in red/white ports on the back of my tv. I can't figure out what is going on - I tried plugging the red/white cables into all the input ports on the back of my tv, just in case, but no luck.

With the new Mac Mini models, you can have audio out via HDMI or the line out. I am thinking to hook the mini up to an LCD TV/monitor via HDMI (sound on the monitor) and also to my other TV/sound system via the mini DP and audio out.
I assume when the mini turns on it'll activate both displays (if they are turned on), and from what I understand you can have two displays running. I'd only want one at a time so I'd have the other display switched off. But can the mini output audio to either both, or whichever system I am using? I've read a lot of posts but can't find a definite answer. I only want audio (and video for that matter, but can turn off other screen) to one TV at a time, but do I have to go into the OS audio settings each time I want to swap between the two?
I'm also thinking of using Plex and keeping it open at all times, just sleeping the mini when not in use. Can the mini only output to one source, requiring manual switching to the other (i.e. going from HDMI to audio out)?
was watching a video on top gear site and suddenly the mac mini light went off and now the unit will not power back up. the plug in where i put the adapter in has power because i plugged in a lamp and it works. i tried to unplug the unit and held down the power button and plugged in the unit and let go the power button and pressed it again right after letting go the button. still no power to the little light just below and to the right of the cd slot. would like to know if there is any thing else i can do. i have a fluke 87 meter and the output of the little brick is 18.54 volts dc. sincerely dickie from thibodaux, louisiana.

I'm using iMovie 09 with the very latest updates applied and I am having trouble with audio skimming in just one of my projects. The project is only 8 minutes long and is just a collage of pictures to music.
The audio skimming button is toggled to on but no green bars show in the equalizer when I skim over the video. The audio works fine when playing the project and in other windows around the project such as the event viewer. I have plenty of free hard drive space and the thumbnails slider is set to '5s'. ALL of my other projects skim no problem.
Now this is the strange part. If I click to enter the precision editor on any part of the video and then click done (even without altering anything) the skimming comes back. It thus disappears if place a new item in the timeline until I go back into the precision editor where it re enables itself.
I have a friend who is willing to give me the stock RAM out of his new 2009 MacPro. Will it work in my MacPro 1,1?

I'm now looking into getting one to install myself, however I'm a bit confused as to what card to buy. The one available on the Apple website says it is incompatible with Mac Pro's introduced in 2005. So I'm assuming that will not work. I have a question regarding Microsoft power point. I have microsoft powerpoint 2007 on my PC, but sadly don't have the microsoft 2008 or iworks on my mac. I have a report I have to present so I have to do it on my PC. Problem is that they have MACs that have microsoft office 2008. Question is if i save a file on the MS PP 2007 for PC would it work on MS PP 2008 on a mac? Or would I have to save it as a 97-03 PP file that would be an extension of .ppt. I believe the extension for the 2007 PP is .pptx.

Now i have been using office 2007 for the past year and a half and have rehabilitated to the new format. Since the pc version of office 2007 will not run on a mac and i will be forced to pay $150 for the one for the mac. Which is better. I works it only $100 in Canada (going to make that clear i live in Canada) Will i miss Office 2007 or will i work be something that i will enjoy to work with.

How can I get Digital Audio out of my G4 mini? Has anyone done that?
I am trying to integrate the mini into my home theater, and would like to get 5.1 sound out of that for my DVDs, Rips, etc.... and also pipe my music over a digital cable.
I know the Mini's audio jack doubles as a Digital out, and I could get that to pipe audio into my receiver's toshlink jack, but I cannot find any cables that would provide a digital 8mm jack in one end and a toshlink or coax jack on the other..... any ideas?
Alternatively, are there any USB or Firewire sound cards that could help me. I found one by Griffin, but that is meant to connect to 5.1 PC speakers, and does not give a digital toshlink or coax output. Are there any out there that I could use to do this??
