I have a document that I downloaded from a website, but the text is very small.I would like to retype it. I need to keep it on screen so I can magnify the letters in Preview. But when I start to type in Word, the document in the space for Preview disappears.I am therefore constantly switcg back and forth. Is there any way I can leave the document open in Preview AND type while I am typing.

I can't get my microphone to work. On the system preferences> sound> input screen, I am "line-in", with volume up, and inserting the jack registers on the volume meter of little blue bars with a spike up, but no speech through the microphone is registering.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am tech support for an Elementary-Middle school with an all Mac curriculum. We have been this way for just about 4 years now and our first model iMac 17 inches are no longer under warranty.
We have three iMac 17"s that don't work properly, here's the rundown:
- The First works properly fine but has a bad DVI port (we run SMARTBoards and require them for most of our classroom computers)
- The Second has a bad logic board, we don't have any other information about it
- The Third has a broken display, we're pretty sure everything else works on it.
We don't have applecare support on these three and are interested in turning them in to two (hopefully) or one working model for a teacher.
Any ideas/suggestions/resources?
A few days ago I finally upgraded my iMac G4 (Flatpanel) from 10.4.9 to 10.4.11. I had not printed or scanned anything since then, but today I needed to do both, and they don't work. I think it has something to do with the upgrade because they were working just fine before that.
The printer is an Epson Stylus 777i
The Scanner is an Epson Perfection 640U
What could have changed, and how can I get my Mac and peripherals to work together again?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have an imac 7,1 - intel core 2 duo, 2,4GHz, that is 20" from mid 2007 with an HARD DISC: Western digital : WD3200AAJS - (320GB) that died.so I bought a NEW HDD: Western digital: WD10EARX - (1TB): Caviar green series I changed step by step the HDD and reconnected everything and all went well, until I re-started the iMac. After approx. 2-3 min the HDD Fan began to increase in speed and since then I have tried everything that I found on the net and nothing worked to slow down the fans.
That is the external temp sensor is set in the same way as it was on the old HDD. I reset the SMC and the PRAM several times, actually oppened and checked all cable conections three times. I installed the SMC fan control - no difference, the HDD fan control demo version - no difference. THUS the problem is that the FANS do not stop working as if the comp is on fire.

I had until april, an Acer with Windows and back up to a TDC Home Disk. Now I am trying to use that Home Disk for my new iMac, either as disk for Time Machine or for manual back up.But it does not work. I get the message that I am not allowed to read neither from Time Machine, from mac-backup, or from my own new personal files.

My G5 fan is running loud and hot a lot of the time. Very loud. My Power Mac G5 Quad is the last one made before Intel came along. I've downloaded Temperature Monitor software, but I can't fine out what normal temperature ranges are. If any one can help me find out more, please email me gruel@mac.com

I am using Mac 0S X Leopard, mac mini and facing the following problem:
1) System is taking too long time(10 - 15 min ) for start up and shut down.
2) It is asking every time to set up the current time as and when the system starts every time.
3) When accesing the system preferences , it gets crashed when using index Spotlight.
4) Finder gets relaunched itself for every 60-90 seconds when accessing folder Applications or Utilities etc..
5) The Spotlight is indexing itself, When i tried to stop the indexing of the spotlight using system preference, it gets crashed.
My system got its logic board replaced by the apple once.
I am looking for an external hard drive to work with time machine on a imac. All the reports I have looked at are really mixed

Trying to restore newly replaced harddrive from external Time Machine backup to iMac. Computer was reset as new machine at repair shop. Should be simple (famous last words), but get caught in a loop while File transfer appears to be calculating size of items selected for transfer. Screen fades out and retiurns to welcome screen.

The originals I burn to a DVD but the pictures I put on an external hard drive 1 tb so they are readily accessible. View 4 Replies View RelatedI have an Intel Imac G5 2.66 gHz 2 core duo running 10.6.3. I am unable to get it shut down or sleep. Choosing either results in the display blacking out, the fans run for about 1 second and then everything come back on as if nothing has happened. I've reset the Pram and Vram, disconnected all USB and Firewire devices, tried it with and without file sharing and Airport operating. A 'hard' shutdown with the power button works fine. I have checked for any firmware updates but mine is fine. This happened once before and clearing out some files from deleted apps cured the problem but it's back now.

Just after my warranty expired I developed what I suspect will be an expensive problem. Upon awakening from sleep my computer cannot recognize the internal HD. I total freeze. If I power down & reboot everything works. If I boot the computer from an external HD clone of my internal HD a can put the computer to sleep and wake up without a problem EXCEPT:When I do this the computer removes the internal HD icon from the desktop and Iget a dialog box informing me that the internal HD was improperly disconnected.

Since I just lost my hard drive on my iMac 24 Intel, I am using external hard drive to backup via Time Machine. My question is what procedures are needed when you disconnect ext. hard drive? Do you change Time Machine from ON to OFF?
I know that I have to eject the ext. hard drive using proper commands, but what happens whenever I reinstall the ext. hard drive? Does Time Machine start over from the beginning or just update for changes since my last backup via Time Machine?
When I go on trips, I store ext hard drive in a safe and this is why I am asking.
Ok, so i picked up a 2TB Time Capsule a couple days ago and have tried everything i can think of to get this to work, but im at a loss... I had been previously using Time Machine to backup to an Ext HD attached via USB, and that always went smooth as butter.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an iMac running the latest version of Lion (10.7.4) and which I have upgraded to a one terabyte hard drive and full memory capability. I back up to a My Book 2 terabyte external hard drive using Time Machine. My iMac is often very sticky, though I've done most of the diagnostics I know of and preferences etc. are seemingly all OK and fcuk -fs gives a positive result! The Mac is often hard to wake from sleep and in particular seems to spend a lot of time backing up very-very slowly, with the result that it frustratingly seems to be backing up most of the time with the consequent effects on using other programs. Also the whole thing seems to grind to a halt after a hard days work with quite a few applications open. I'm wondering what can be causing this and what I can do to overcome this very frustrating and debilitating problem?

I am using a NS4300N NAS from Promise on a LAN with an iMac running Leopard 10.5.2. I connect to it using SMB. It should work with any NAS since the instructions here are not NAS specific. I haven't tried with AFP.
Just downloaded the new software update (10.5.7) & now my time machine backup doesn't appear to work. I get the following image. I have been to the preferences but can't see the external hard drive there?

I'm using genie time machine at the moment which is really good but i wanted a wireless backup solution, i mainly use windows on my mac because i use 3ds max so its really for the windows side. Am i better off buying a decent NAS drive that i know will work for windows and try and get time machine to see it using the hack to get it to work or vice versa? Also can you upgrade the HDD in time machines?

But if I have to keep plugging my external HD in everytime I would like to backup, will that be good enough?
