As soon as I opened up any application or even a single browser window--CRASH.

I've heard that corsair has a very good reputation for desktop ram but don't know if this transfers over to laptop ram. Is there any reason why I would go for the crucial memory? Apr 22, 2009I have two 512mb 667MHz DDR2 DIMMS from an old first generation Intel iMac. Would one of these DIMMS work in the Aluminum iMac running a single 1GB 800MHz DDR2 DIMM? Common sense tells me "No" and that this combination could cause Kernal Panics, etc with different speeds of RAM installed. However, I thought it was worth asking since I have these two DIMMS sitting here doing nothing and my mate could use the extra memory for free.

Mar 14, 2008I got a new Mac Pro in December of 2007 that came without an Airport card installed. I'm now looking into getting one to install myself, however I'm a bit confused as to what card to buy. The one available on the Apple website says it is incompatible with Mac Pro's introduced in 2005. So I'm assuming that will not work. I've looked online and have found some like this with model number MB363Z/A.
I THINK this is what I want, however when I enter that model number into google and search a bit I find that some websites have it listed as Airport Extreme Wireless Card for Mac Pro (2008). Now, what I'm wondering is if this will work for my Mac Pro that I got in December of 2007, or not.

Sometimes if I fix disk permissions (which disk utility points out but never really fixes) and zap the PRAM, after a few restarts the audio will work. But right now mac mini is acting like it isn't connected to its speakers. Even the internal one. The previous owner did upgrade the RAM to 3 gigs...

Apr 9, 2010I have a question regarding Microsoft power point. I have microsoft powerpoint 2007 on my PC, but sadly don't have the microsoft 2008 or iworks on my mac. I have a report I have to present so I have to do it on my PC. Problem is that they have MACs that have microsoft office 2008. Question is if i save a file on the MS PP 2007 for PC would it work on MS PP 2008 on a mac? Or would I have to save it as a 97-03 PP file that would be an extension of .ppt. I believe the extension for the 2007 PP is .pptx.

Feb 19, 2012I have an imac 7,1 - intel core 2 duo, 2,4GHz, that is 20" from mid 2007 with an HARD DISC: Western digital : WD3200AAJS - (320GB) that died.so I bought a NEW HDD: Western digital: WD10EARX - (1TB): Caviar green series I changed step by step the HDD and reconnected everything and all went well, until I re-started the iMac. After approx. 2-3 min the HDD Fan began to increase in speed and since then I have tried everything that I found on the net and nothing worked to slow down the fans.
That is the external temp sensor is set in the same way as it was on the old HDD. I reset the SMC and the PRAM several times, actually oppened and checked all cable conections three times. I installed the SMC fan control - no difference, the HDD fan control demo version - no difference. THUS the problem is that the FANS do not stop working as if the comp is on fire.

As a pc user looking for an upgrade and to try something different, i have now come to the crossroad on what to buy for word processing and the works. Now i have been using office 2007 for the past year and a half and have rehabilitated to the new format. Since the pc version of office 2007 will not run on a mac and i will be forced to pay $150 for the one for the mac. Which is better. I works it only $100 in Canada (going to make that clear i live in Canada) Will i miss Office 2007 or will i work be something that i will enjoy to work with.

Tried to kick it into boot menu... no luck
managed to boot to Leopard install disk. backed into Disk Utility.... Verify System Disk produces: "Invalid B-tree node size...Disk Verify / Repair fail".
too bad too sad... no more information.
I don't know enough to know whether this is a SW failure or a drive failure, and my searches has led me here.
Also, my very first post in a forum, I read the rules and I hope I have found the right forum for this query.

Apr 10, 2009I bought two sitcks of ram made by corsair (CM3X2GSD1066). I installed them in my macbook aluminiun 2.4 and I have some stability issues. All memory tests using even apple hardware test say that there is no problem but when watching videos or doing random taskes the computer hangs and the image gets distorted. Is there any way of making this memory work as I have seen that it works fine for other people in their macs.

I love my Mac and would never go back to a PC now, BUT (you knew that was coming) I have recently (unfortunately I don't know exactly when) developed a problem in that my iMac will not auto sleep. The screensaver will kick in OK, but it will not go to sleep on its own. I can put it to sleep from the menu manually, but not by the setting in System Preferences. I have reset the PRAM, and the SMC and neither of those changes have worked. Have any of you had this issue and solved it?

What does it do?
I hear the fans and hard drive and see the white/grey boot screen with the apple logo and spinning cog. The cog will spin for anything from 5 - 30 seconds before freezing. Some disk activity will continue for a short time afterwards before everything grinds to a halt?

OS X :: Hangs During Shutdown When Turn Off IMac (AL Mid - 2007 Running 10.5)
Mar 26, 2008When ever I turn off my iMac (AL mid-2007 running 10.5) it seems like it hangs during shutdown. It takes about 60 seconds to shutdown and after about 30 seconds it starts to show. It looks like this, except it still shows my wallpaper... (This is just an image I found on the web). I am not sure why it is taking so long to shutdown lately... I don't remember it taking nearly this long in the past. Here is a photo of everything that is running during shutdown and it still does it. (I usually try to close out of apps before shutting down).

Sep 15, 2009Ever since I installed to 10.6.1, I have been having issues with WiFi.
I'm only getting 3 bars, and my iMac is sitting less then a foot away from my AEBS, on 10.6 I was getting 4, also I've been dropping my WiFi connection every hour or so, and I have to turn AirPort in on my iMac off and turn AirPort back on.
This is really annoying and I don't know what to do, anyone have any ideas?
I've already reset my AEBS twice and that hasn't worked.
OS X :: IMac 2007 Aluminum RAM Installation - Get Black Screen With 2 Gig Stick
Sep 8, 2009I bought my aluminum imac when it was released in late 2007. I had a 1 gigabyte stick up until now, but I decided to upgrade to 2x2 gigabyte sticks. When I took out the 1 stick and placed the new ones in, my computer would sound like it turned on, but the system really did not boot up. I have tried many configurations to see what the problem with the RAM is, and all I could figure out is that the computer will only boot up if the original 1 gig stick is in one slot. I checked both sticks with this, and they seem to register on my mac when I check the "About This Mac" section. Basically, I get a black screen if I use only a 2 gig stick, or both 2 gig sticks. I can have a maximum of 3 gigs so far, but I really would like all 4 that I paid for. I'm not so sure that it's a problem with the ram, especially because it is recognized by the system, but it can't boot up the system, so I am simply dumbfounded. Anyone have an idea what the problem is? I just recently installed Snow Leopard prior to getting the RAM if that has any importance.

Aug 19, 2010I recently bought an used iMac (was purchased new in feburary 2009) in which I knew the screen was not showing any video when I bought it. ( I was okay with that I thought I'd give it a go at fixing) well the problem seems to be within the LCD itself. When I hit the power button I hear the chime, fan spins, and the hard drive does it's thing. I ended up taking the casing off the iMac to where it only shows the bottom half of the insides underneath the LCD. My question is now to diagnose what exactly is wrong with it by using the 4 led lights. I have searched the forums and the Internet up and down for which ones mean what but I have only found out information on older iMacs. When my iMac is off (still plugged in) LED 1 is on. When I turn the iMac on LED 1,2, and 3 are green. Which that leaves the 4th LED not being lit up at all. I suspect this has something to do with the iMac not showing any video but as I said I am not sure because I cannot find any information on it anywhere.
