View 2 RepliesApple states that the new 2009 RAID card "Requires Mac Pro (early 2009) and Mac OS X v10.5.6 or later." Why? Is there any reason it won't work in an older Mac Pro (2007)? Aside from the increase in cache size (256MB-->512MB) what is the difference?

I want to know if the new standard of USB 3.0 devices (like simple memory sticks) will work with my machine… are they compatible with USB 2.0 machines??Â
Partly I'm thinking of buying th newest standard now for the future Â
I got a new Mac Pro in December of 2007 that came without an Airport card installed. I'm now looking into getting one to install myself, however I'm a bit confused as to what card to buy. The one available on the Apple website says it is incompatible with Mac Pro's introduced in 2005. So I'm assuming that will not work. I've looked online and have found some like this with model number MB363Z/A.
I THINK this is what I want, however when I enter that model number into google and search a bit I find that some websites have it listed as Airport Extreme Wireless Card for Mac Pro (2008). Now, what I'm wondering is if this will work for my Mac Pro that I got in December of 2007, or not.
Have it hooked up to creature speakers, which never had an issue before. Sometimes if I fix disk permissions (which disk utility points out but never really fixes) and zap the PRAM, after a few restarts the audio will work. But right now mac mini is acting like it isn't connected to its speakers. Even the internal one. The previous owner did upgrade the RAM to 3 gigs...

I have a question regarding Microsoft power point. I have microsoft powerpoint 2007 on my PC, but sadly don't have the microsoft 2008 or iworks on my mac. I have a report I have to present so I have to do it on my PC. Problem is that they have MACs that have microsoft office 2008. Question is if i save a file on the MS PP 2007 for PC would it work on MS PP 2008 on a mac? Or would I have to save it as a 97-03 PP file that would be an extension of .ppt. I believe the extension for the 2007 PP is .pptx.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an imac 7,1 - intel core 2 duo, 2,4GHz, that is 20" from mid 2007 with an HARD DISC: Western digital : WD3200AAJS - (320GB) that died.so I bought a NEW HDD: Western digital: WD10EARX - (1TB): Caviar green series I changed step by step the HDD and reconnected everything and all went well, until I re-started the iMac. After approx. 2-3 min the HDD Fan began to increase in speed and since then I have tried everything that I found on the net and nothing worked to slow down the fans.
That is the external temp sensor is set in the same way as it was on the old HDD. I reset the SMC and the PRAM several times, actually oppened and checked all cable conections three times. I installed the SMC fan control - no difference, the HDD fan control demo version - no difference. THUS the problem is that the FANS do not stop working as if the comp is on fire. Â

View 4 Replies View Related im in search of a mac. Not going to go over specs but anyway. As a pc user looking for an upgrade and to try something different, i have now come to the crossroad on what to buy for word processing and the works. Now i have been using office 2007 for the past year and a half and have rehabilitated to the new format. Since the pc version of office 2007 will not run on a mac and i will be forced to pay $150 for the one for the mac. Which is better. I works it only $100 in Canada (going to make that clear i live in Canada) Will i miss Office 2007 or will i work be something that i will enjoy to work with.

I am building my Mac Pro, I want to have 3 X4GB ddr3 memory on my Mac Pro.
I know this is ECC memory and Registered, and Mac Pro uses unbufferred ECC.
Can some one confirm me if Mac Pro can be put with it (as the below linked ebay item)? From the searched threads, some said yes with speed penalty, but he points to a wikipedia page to explain the speed difference could caused, not confirmed based on experience though. I am not concerned with the speed difference, if there is but minimal. Cost is my concern. I wanted to know if those DRAMs work fine in 2009 Mac Pro. Any body tried before?
I like to DJ in my spare time and use the macbook for my software program, but using the integrated cam doesnt give a good angle at my mixers. I used the xbox live vision cam with my PC laptop, but I got rid of it and only have the macbook now. Ive tried just plugging it in and I dont know how to access it. I occasionally do live mixes on stickam where you dont get to choose which cam to use. So if I can get the xbox cam to work, how can I temporarily disable the integrated cam?

I've just received a new 2009 3.06ghz Intel iMac Core Duo 1TB ATI Radeon computer. My internet connection is dial-up (not Ethernet or WiFi). I just discovered there's no phone connection on the new iMac, and that I need a USB modem.
The computer booklet recommends the Apple External USB Modem. I found this one on Amazon:

But the customer reviews suggest it may not be truly compatible with Intel machines. It may cause system freezes. I found a thread on this forum that mentioned the problem may have to do with using an unpowered USB hub. I won't be using the keyboard or any hub. The USB modem will be plugged directly into the back of my iMac.
Does anyone know if this will work, or if not, is there another USB modem that will?
I had a wireless keyboard I was working on and had set up a password, the keyboard has broken and is damaged how do I get in the computer?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to service a family Mac Pro and I'm not close at all to an Apple Store. Also, the machine is not under warranty anymore. I think I have a faulty thermal sensor on the northbridge. Its giving 129C readings from a cold boot and I've already cleaned the heatshink and reapplied thermal compound. Running AHT throws an [4SNS/1/40000000: TNOH] error. Resetting the PRAM and NVRAM didn't do anything. I'm not sure if ASD can do any more but its worth a shot right? Work have recently asked me to investigate the potential to put 64-bit windows 7 on our 2007 mac pro. It currently runs xp 32-bit but require to use more of the ram that the machine has. I am new to macs (my experience is windows and linux machines) so am struggling to come up with an answer. Apple seem to say windows 7 64 bit isn't supported on boot camp on a mac earlier that 2008. However, it appears people say it can be done. Could someone point me in the right direction to an article or provide me with some advice on how to go about it.

Tried initially placing this drive on one of the two xtra SATA ports and mounting it where the extra CD drive goes, then discovered that Windows won't recognize and would need drivers/hacking etc.
Have decided to put it in regular bay 4 and use bootcamp. Do I need to install any special drivers to maximize the ability of Windows to access this drive?

My mid-2007 intel iMac 24" won't power on, there is no sound, screen activity or signs of life other than a slight "bzz bzz" when the power button is pressed. Yesterday it was working fine, I put the computer to sleep and when I attempted to wake it the next day, it would not. The optical eye on the mouse was lit and a green led light could be seen reflecting through the memory access door, but the computer made no sounds and would not wake. I held the power button until the mouse turned off and then attempted to reboot. All I get is a quick buzz (possibly the hard drive sound that you normally hear just before the chimes and screen powering on) when the power button is pressed, but no other activity. I attempted resetting the SMC and reinstalling the memory, no avail. Just a little buzz and nothing else. An

I am looking to hook up my 2007 Macbook Pro (2.4 Ghz 15 Inch Screen) to my sony bravia 32 inch TV. Seeing how this particular model of macbook pro, although very hardy and has lasted me through now, the screen at the bottom is cracked and will probably at some point snap (annoying...). Â
Anyway! Just a note to start, I no longer have my original display adapter that came with my computer, it was lost at some point in the move out of my parents house and I do not remember what the hook up is. I purchased an SVGA moniter cable from radio shack since I can hook that up to my TV. I then went to the PX here on base and purchased a mini display port to VGA adapter for my computer, but alas I do not have this hook up on my computer (although the vga adapter end works, obviously).Â
This is what I'm assuming I need...can I get this to vga adapter?Â

My 2007 Macbook won't boot. When you press the power button it starts as normal, the apple appears and the spinning circle starts. Then the screen goes grey and it sits there. I have to press the power button to shut it down. I took it to a service shop who told me that the hard drive was dying so I replaced the old drive with a new ssd and a fresh install of Lion. No difference. Still won't start. I refreshed the PRAM but made no difference.
