Since some couple of months, i can't open some folders on my macbook air and pro anymore. when I try to open some folders, than every icon disappears, and I am at the some place I was before. The folders exist, because when I try to open some files from the search bar, it works, but I can search the files into the folder!Â

I had no problems with leopard, but since I installed snow leopard (and also afterwards mavericks) I can´t open most files I download from my firefox gmail or hotmail. I want to open a word or pages file with pages and it is the standard program for opening the file but everytime I get the message that I cannot open it.Â

This week I bought mij first macbook pro. so I new in osx. I have a ubuntu 14.04 server running with samba 4.1.6. From a Windows or linux computer is can acces the shares just fine.
When i try to acces the share from my macbook i can open the share but when I try to open an folder with allot of files/folders the is empty in finder, i thought first it was a performance issue so I've waited for 30 minutes but still empty. smaller Folders ik can open in finder.
In console there his no error on the server the logfile has also no error...
I just bought a new MacBook Pro and for some reason, I can't use the space bar to immediately open spring loaded folders. I have checked the Finder preferences and everything seems to be in order.

For some strange reason i don't have sound anymore on my macbook pro running snow leopard.
The only thing i can still select in my system preferences, sound, is Digital Out in the output selection.
MacBook Pro 10.6.8 not recognizing usb camera connection any more. Worked fine for ever. Just stopped seeing usb connection to camera. Other usb devices show up. How do I get it to recognize camera?

I'm running OS 10.7.3 When I first installed, I could rename folders (I know how to do this). Now, I can no longer change the folder names.Â
I searched these discussion topics and found some posts about quitting the Dock process and trashing Dock prefs. I've done all these but there's still no success.Â
Lately I have been unable to open PDFs from the internet. When I click it sends me to a blank internet tab. Sometimes I am able to control click and have the option to save the file in my downloads, then have to go back into finder to open the file. This is also the case when opening PDFs from emails. However there are some files on the internet that will not allow me that option. I have tried this in firefox, safari, and chrome.All are the same.Everything worked just fine until about 3 days ago.

So a week ago I opened Photoshop and my macbook froze and gave me this screen:
I had to force it to shut down, and when I turned it back on, I'd get the chime, I'd see the logo and the spinning cog, then it would go to a white screen and either stall or shut itself off... I tried resetting the PRAM and SMC. I went into Disk Utility and verified the disk and the permissions. I also reset Photoshop's preferences, and completely reinstalled it. Booting in safe mode worked, but of course it's a little slow and I can't use some programs. I was able to start up normally by booting in single user mode and running the /sbin/fsck -fy command a couple times.Â
I ended up taking it to a Genius Bar, they ran a couple diagnostic tests and confirmed it wasn't a hardware issue and it was probably the OS. They reinstalled Snow Leopard, I restored my stuff with my Time Machine backup, and everything worked fine for a couple days.Â
But today when I turned it on, it shut itself down again! And running single user mode doesn't work anymore. It'll say "The volume Macintosh HD appears to be OK." and when I reboot, it shuts down at the white screen. Now the only way it will boot up is in safe mode, and if I close the lid to put it in sleep mode, it'll turn itself off after a few minutes.Â
I'm not incredibly tech savvy, but I'm wondering if it could be a third party program. I'm not sure how to find out which one is causing the issue, though... I've uninstalled SMCfanControl and StartupSound.prefpane. Those are the only two I can think of that could potentially mess with the startup...

When I open a pdf, a dialog box opens up with the following message: "The file "File Name" could not be opened. It may be damaged or use a file format that Preview doesn’t recognize." I tried it with Adobe Reader and I got the same message. I am running 10.10.1 on a 2013 Macbook Pro.

Suddenly my iMac won't open most .PDF files - specifically those that are imbedded in the body of emails or may be identified by a hotlink on websites. But if one is simply attached to an email, that seems to open? I had some updates for my Macbook Pro (snow leopard- up to date) and for some reason now I can't open pdfs on the web on either safari or firefox. If I download them it works, but I can't view them on the acutal browser anymore. When I open a website that is the link to the pdf it just pulls up a black page- that's it, you refresh it refreshes the same thing. I reinstalled Adobe reader (I use Preview though) and still nothing. I don't kow *** is going on.

I downloaded Lion last night only to discover I can't open my word documents anymore. My original office software for Mac is packed away somewhere (haven't had to use those install disks for a few years and probably won't work with Lion anyway?).

I installed on my MacBook Pro running Mavericks a SSD and cloned my original HDD by using Apple Disk Utility; everything is fine, however I noticed the following issue:Â by going to the Apple top left and Info My Mac and selecting the HD memory, I do not any file classification anymore, as per the following screenshot.Â

Is this a matter of time that has to be given to Mavericks to reclassify files or is this an issue? Is there a way to force Maverick to reclassify files?
A few days ago, I started being unable to move files from one folder to another in Finder or on my Desktop, using a drag and drop motion. I can move the files if I copy and paste them from one folder to the next, but that is incredibly laborious. I have not changed any of my user settings lately, so why this is happening all of a sudden. Â

I used to be able to "automatically" (click on icon in mail) to add/import a picture that was an attachment to an email I received in my inbox to iPhoto by one simple click on an icon in the header area of the mail.Â

I have these weird highlights on tagged (or previously tagged) files and folders on my Mac, regardless if it's on a desktop or within another folder.Â
I was in the middle of dragging music into a folder and in the midst of it all it would no longer let me drag any file, photo, song or any folder around.
