I transferred my old files to my new iMac and now I cannot open them. They have a red circle on them and a message that says they are now unsupported. How do I translate these files on my new iMac?

I created a partition on my new iMac for 200gb and cloned my old MBP with an external HD. I tried to open it from the connected external HD and it wouldn't let me. I tried transferring the files from the external hard drive to the partitioned HD on the imac and it said this operation could not be done........
Also I tried booting from the external cloned HD and can not do any functions with my iMac as the keyboard and mouse are bluetooth and it does nothing when I type...
I recently got a 2TB hard drive and I wanted to transfer all that I had on my portable drive onto the 2TB one. So I did, and I guess I didn't transfer the "System Volume Information" folder and now I can't open the folders.

We copied 5 gigs of music to the hard drive to view on the Windows computer. The computer recognizes the drive and shows that 5 gigs are being used but I cant see any of the files.

I have 2 Imacs, both running OS 10.9.3. The run on a simple office ethernet wired network. We have had no problems until yesterday when suddenly one of the Imacs (Imac A) disappeared from the network. Imac A could see Imac B but not the other way round. Imac A connected to Imac BÂ but was denied access to all the folders under the user directory on Imac B. The folders all have the no entry icon on them and if I try to open them I get the message "can't be opened because you don't have permission to see its contents" . I have checked that the sharing set up on both machines allows access read and write on items and we have been successfully sharing files for months.Â
I have hooked up an old Mac Pro running 10.8.6. to the network. It can see both the Imacs but when I transferred files from that machine to Imac B I got the message "can't be opened because you don't have permission to see its contents". I've checked and the permissions on this folder are set for all to read and write.Â
So far I have checked and repaired privileges using disk first aid.Â
The Imacs are both 3.1ghz Quad core i5 running 10.9.3.
I just received a replacement computer for a defective machine. Its a brand new macbook pro. I transferred old files with time machine only to have the new machine resume a series of kernel panics that caused the replacement. The Genius Bar asked me to reload everything from scratch so as not to transfer corrupt files. I did so -- with the most up to date dmg files out there, and 4 days later had another kernel panic. I do not know what it means but have pasted it below.
View 11 Replies View RelatedMy intel iMac hard drive crashed. I had it backed up with Carbon Copy Cloner. The technician who fixed the hard drive put SL on the new hard drive. I tried to restore with CCC first but it didn't restore anything. I used Migration Assistant and it asked about duplicate user names so I gave it a new name to be safe. I now have all my apps but no files. I used MA again and decided to use the same user name this time. I ended up with 2 accounts with the same name but no files. I was hoping to end up with the same computer (e.g. same desktop, all files in the same folders as before, iPhoto, iCal, Address Book, Dashboard etc. all organized and acting the same way as before). Every looking and acting the same way with the exception of the subtle changes brought about by SL.

I have downloaded the file ClassicsOnLine.app It was sent to me individually by the firm ClassicOnLine via YouSendIt. The app will open, but will not open one of its own files. When instead I ask that file to open with the app, the app freezes and has to be force quitted. All old versions have been trashed, and there are no traces of any old files that I can find on the computer. It reminds me of the old extension conflicts. I have used Safari and Firefox separately and get the same result from both.

I transferred about 400 gigs of data from my MacBook Pro to my new iMac using Migration Assistant, but can't find any of my data on Finder.
