When I hold down Option on boot up, it loads to a grey screen with a dark grey padlock. Under that is a password entry field then a dark-grey circle with a right pointing arrow. I've tried every password I can think of but it does nothing. When I click enter the password just dissapears.

How can I bypass entering my password at start-up and each time I change some setting or install software. I do not need to do this constantly on my G4 running Tiger.

How can I bypass the login screen because I don't have the password anymore. I loaded Panther but told it use old settings instead of starting new. Now it won't even let me start over without the password.

I was just on my computer tonight nd all of a sudden it restarted, upon rebooting it went to a safari-only mode with a webpage asking me to log into a wifi account and telling me to access Apple support.
- I cannot boot into safe mode, and any other mode I use just brings me to this same screen.
- Everytime I restart the computer it just brings me back to this screen and I can't log into my normal account.
-Â I also cannot access system preferences.
- If I close safari I just get a blank screen with nothing.
- Other solutions have suggested this is a 'theft' location procedure, if so, how do I 'deactivate' this? I have accessed my iCloud 'find my iphone' and there seems to be no way of disabling it. Â

my mac show only Cap Letter (DEARMAC...)... is it normal?
isn't supposed to be able to acces Small Letter as well. if so ... how can access that?

This has just started happening a few days ago. I think it has something to do with bluetooth. Every time I have to restart my iMac, the mouse and keyboard freeze. I work around this by unplugging the mouse from the keyboard and plugging it into one of the usb ports on the back of the imac. I used to have a wireless keyboard and mouse and I'm typing on it now because the regular wired keyboard no longer seems to work at all now. I think the bluetooth setting sin system preferences which are all checked, may have something to do with this but not sure. Everything else on the machijne is fine. How can I set things so that I can use my wired keyboard?
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy brother's iBook G4 (I think it's a 2003 model) has a problem with the screen. When the computer is turned on, the screen stays black, although the backlight is on (the apple glows). Sometimes, on start up, the screen works normally for a random amount of time before going fuzzy and then black again.
Any ideas on how to fix this? Is it likely to be a problem with the hardware in the actual computer, or just the screen? Or is it a software thing?
I am running OS X Mavericks, and when I want to, let's say, install a Sims 3 game, it asks for my administrator password. Now since someone else owns the computer (and they don't want me to know their password but I can install the games with their permission) I don't know the admin password, and I want to know, is there a way to bypass that admin password without having to reset it to a pass I know? Or do I just have to deal with the fact that I have to ask?

My Imac has the dreaded blue screen on start up. To avoid this, I unplug the machine each night which solves the problem. I have contacted an Apple service rep who says I need to replace the hard drive. Nothing I have read indicates this. I have not added new hardware, not changed anything. Could it be my hard drive is bad?Â

I have a mid-2007 model and I replaced the x2 stock 1GB sticks with x2 2GB sticks. I followed the correct procedures, (I think), and when I powered it on the fan came back on but the screen was black. I unplugged the unit and replaced put the old RAM back in and now when I power it up the screen just goes grey and beeps when I turn it on.

When I shut down my iMac and restarted it gets past the apple logo then turns white and starts dimming and then getting brighter but will not go any further. Â
I tried to reboot in safe mode and it done the same thing. I power cycled by unplugging the holding down the power button. Â

This 5 year old iMac makes the seek optical drive sound when switched on, but does not chime, but I can hear the hard drive going afterwards.
The screen just stays black, not a flicker.
The problem is that it is located in a small pretty isolated town in NE Brazil, I will be going back out there later in the summer so if anyone has any helpful ideas it would be most welcome. Fortunately we have a full CCC clone of the hard drive and a working MBP so we haven't lost anything, but it would be very good to have it working again.
Does it have a socket for an external monitor, I really cannot remember, as I have not seen it since November, I know the old round iMacs had one.
The nearest Mac store is probably in Rio or Sao Paulo which are a good day travelling by car and plane so there is no chance of getting it there.

Any one seen this before? When booting, the iMac goes to a blue screen that simply says "maintenance".
View 2 Replies View RelatedI replaced my hard drvie in my A1208 iMac yesterday, and didn't have the OS disc or a keyboard. After installing the HD, I booted the computer to make sure everything was working. I got the "?" screen, and everything seemend to be working just fine. So today, I picked up a keyboard from the Apple store and dug out the disc After I got back home, I booted the computer to install the OS, and the screen went black a few seconds after the chime and grey screen, but was still running. (I could hear the fan and disc spinning) I've tried to restart, but i'm still having the same problem. I've tried to research other issues, but haven't found anything comparable.

I was off of my iMac for an hour or two so my screen saver when on. I went to wake the computer and it was frozen. I tried using the keyboard and mouse to wake up the computer from the screen saver, but it would not work, so I powered the iMac down manually from the button on the back. I let it sit for 15 minutes, then I tried to start the computer up again. Now at start up, I get to a blank white screen with the spinning moving pin wheel, and that is it.Â

View 1 Replies View RelatedThe latest iMac model. When I click on the power button: I can hear the Hard disk and the DVD drive spin up. The screen stays black. The startup sounds plays half way through the first time, like its being cut off. After the first startup chime has been cut, the chime keeps playing in a loop. The computer doesn't come any further than that.
I have tried: Unplugging all peripherals, with the same result.
SMC reset: Unplug power cord and hold power button for 5 sec. PRAM reset...
It seems like the computer does not even get to boot and ignores all keyboard input. I also tried booting from the DVD drive with the installation disk. But I can't get any further than the repeating startup chimes.
We have 3 users set up on the computer (iMac, Snow Leopard). This just started recently. I can't think of any changes I made to make this happen.

My one week old iMac 2.7GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5. first started problems by not goping to sleep even when I forced it.
I shut it down using the shut off button and unplugging it from power for more than 5 munites.
I turned it back on, it does the usual startup chime and then gray screen. I have restarted twice from the shot off button and still getting the same result.

I turned my 2011 iMac on this morning but it never loaded past the startup screen. Eventually the Apple icon which is usually displayed on the screen turned into the broken folder symbol. I read some articles on how to fix this and tried resetting the NVRAM and PRAM, but that didn't work. I was going to try reinstalling OS X next, but putting the disc into the driver doesn't appear to do anything, and now I can't eject it.

I have a first gen Mac pro, I am getting a sporadic lock up where the screen freezes, and it stops responding to keyboard and mouse input (and it becomes inaccessible from the network). This has happened in normal use twice.
I have tried several times to run the Apple Hardware Test off the original Os X disk, but it locks up up every time in that mode. It also locks up immediately when I boot into single user mode (which I did in order to attempt to run memtest). At least it refuses keyboard input in Single User (with my normal bluetooth keyboard, as well as a USB keyboard that I borrowed).
I did run memtest from a terminal window while logged in normally, and it was able to access 11 of my 12 gigs of RAM, and it passed, so I guess I am 11/12ths sure it is not bad RAM.
When the system does lock up, when I do a hard power cycle with the button on the front of the machine, it will not reboot -- my screen remains black. If I let it sit for a minute or two like that, then power cycle again, it does boot up normally. This is very consistent on these lockups - no boot the first time, works fine the second.
In general, I think it is running hotter than it used to -- at least it seems like the fans are running at high speed more than they used to, but I can't swear to, or quantify that.
I was on the phone with Apple tech support for about an hour yesterday, and he finally decided it had to be taken in for service.
I wanted to see if anybody here has any ideas what the problem might be, especially if it is something I could fix myself, before I lose the machine for however long it will take Apple to fix it.
