Intel Mac :: Won't Update System Software To 10.6.8
Jun 12, 2012
I just bought a used 2011 iMac that came with 10.6.6 installed.
I am trying to update the system software and these two prompts come up:The update Mac OS X Combined can't be saved.Note: Use of this software is subject to the original Software License Agreement that accompanied the software being updated. A list of Apple SLAs may be found here: [URL] appears like there is a licensing dispute, but wondered what exactly that could be and what I need to do to move forward?

Woke up the other morning and launched Mail and received the window below. Tried to check software updates and got the same thing. All other apps work fine. Can't find OSX disks so I can't reinstall Mail before Monday as my disks are at my office. Tried to replace Mail from Time Machine to no avail. Running a iMac, 10.6.8 with external CD drive and iomega eternal drive as my backup.

I am a proud owner of a MAC powerbook G4 for just over 3 years now. It runs MAc OX 10.3. For the last two weeks i have been having issues. First it started to be very slow. Then it would not boot up and i got a blue screen. I ran the file system checks from the OS X and it complained about the volume being bad and said it could not be repaired. i decided to reinstall the whole thing and did a complete erase and install. IT booted up fine. The software updater asked permission to update which i agreed.
After the update was over, the software updater had more updates. I guessed that it was probably giving me updates in the chronological order. During a particular update, it gave the blue screen and "please restart" ... and when i rebooted it did not come up... just a blue screen... i verified the filesystem using the diagnostic tool and it again said it was corrupt .... I have done this twice now and i have a feeling it happened when i was updating the same batch of software updates.... sometimes my software updater would crash everytime i launch it.....

I was asked to performed a system update with a reboot which I proceeded to do. Once the reboot was complete I had lost my system time (which had been reset to December 31, 2000 and my background had been replaced with the original generic MAC background. I have been unable to find the source of this issue and I am unsure how to fix this. I was able to change my clock by adjusting the Date & Time Preferences and fix my background image as well, but I am concerned that this is a temporary fix. Has anyone else experienced this with a system update?

System update to 10.5.4 without difficulty. Today I followed instructions for Mobile Me system update. Then attempted restart. Now start up sequence stops with gray screen and spinning gear. I ran disk utility from Leopard start-up disk- no problem found. Still can't start from Mac Hard drive. What to do next?

So, I did the sysytem update for my iMac desktop. It restarted the computer and loaded the initial page. It came to the log in page, so I click on my username and typed in my password. It goes to a white page and loops back to the log in page. Have reseted the computer but it's still not working. I don't know how to reboot it either. I have tried the control + s to reboot it but it's not working!

Tonight I upgraded my dad's macbook to Leopard, successfully. During the first login process, the software update asked me to install some updates, and that a reboot was required immediately (I imagine they were firmware related). I left the room to let the macbook do its thing and when I came back in my dad had shut the computer (not knowing I had done the firmware update thing). Long story short, I get an immediate kernel panic right away when I turn the computer on. I did not back up the data because I was only doing a system upgrade (which worked just fine!). When I boot, I do see the Apple Logo. I am able to boot into the Leopard Installation DVD. At this point, what are my options? I am only familiar with Linux and Windows advanced installations, so I don't know what is available to me.
1) Can I do a 'repair' on the firmware (or whatever is damaged?) from the DVD?
2) Am I able to do a fresh re-install of Leopard, without re-formatting the drive?
3) Does the 'Disk Utility' give me any options?

My old iMac desktop with Tiger OS installed crashed. I couldn't reboot. I tried the Hardware checkout I got with my MacBook and everything passed. I tried to start-up from the Tiger install disk--but couldn't. So, I went to my old 9.2 OS install disk and was able to startup. Problem is that it didn't let me do anything. I couldn't see my hard drive or attempt any kind of repair. I also can now not eject the system disk. What do I do to first get the 9.2 OS install disk out of my computer and then how do I retrieve my system? I thought I would try rebooting from my MacBook OS X install disk, which I probably should have tried before the 9.2 OS.

how do i uninstall the last system update?
It altered my helvetica font in a way that will cost me hundreds of hours re-kerning / resizing / repositioning text in CAD files for at least 10 large scale projects in progress at my architecture office.
This is an extremely serious & very expensive issue that has to be affecting all architecture firms who use macs the same way as it's affecting me & my business.

If this post is extremely repetitive from previous ones than I extend my sincerest apologies. When I start the Boot Camp Assistant I get this message, "You must update your system software before using this setup assistant." The thing is that my software for my OS is up to date according to Software Update.Any thoughts or solutions?

I was doing the most recent software update today. During the process, it told me to power down. I did and now when I turn on the MBA, I'm only getting a black screen. I have tried a force restart (control-command-power), PRAM reset (command-option-P-R), and the SMC Reset (Shift-Control-Option Power). None of these steps corrected the problem. How I can get my MBA to boot?

I've been using flock which gets the job done but safari has me scratching my head. I downloaded the latest copy. Several times just to make sure. It won't open. It gets as far as putting the icon in the dock then it crashes with the message: "The application Safari quit unexpectedly. Mac OS X and other applications are not affected. It'd be nice to use safari again and my software update says this when I run it. "A networking error has occurred: Error NSURLError Domain -1100 (-1100). Make sure you can connect to the Internet, then try again. Software Update can't check for updates because of a network problem."

All items in system preferences don't get saved/applied. By now the dock doesn't appear on my screen, dashboard and spaces tabs don't work, desktop and screen saver don't save changes or apply so desktop is grey. Trackpad functions don't work.

Software update downloaded and installed a system update. Opened Mail to find that it had duplicated one of my accounts. I now have two accounts with the same email address.
I'd like to delete one of them (no big deal), except that Mail tells me it will delete all messages associated with this address. That would be a lot of messages and messages that I need.

The Vaio Z was updated, AGAIN. Wouldn't it be great if Apple gave a crap about its customers and wanted to compete just like Sony does? Amazing... a full 1080p resolution display in the new 13" Vaio Z offering. When will Apple get off it's ***** iOS high horse and give a damn about computing again?ALL of the 2010 Mac updates were a joke except the new Mac mini. Isn't it sick that the only Mac truly getting any love is the mini desktop in a mobile Mac world? Does this make any sense? Seriously, a complete lack of innovation in the new Mac notebooks. Two years since the last MBA update. Apple really has had its time to work on iOS products like the iPad and iPhone. I really hope SJ's has an answer to Sony, and every other ultraportable on the market, within the holiday season. It is absolutely ridiculous that we WANT TO SPEND MONEY and Apple refuses to allow us to UPGRADE our Macs.
