View 2 RepliesI am a proud owner of a MAC powerbook G4 for just over 3 years now. It runs MAc OX 10.3. For the last two weeks i have been having issues. First it started to be very slow. Then it would not boot up and i got a blue screen. I ran the file system checks from the OS X and it complained about the volume being bad and said it could not be repaired. i decided to reinstall the whole thing and did a complete erase and install. IT booted up fine. The software updater asked permission to update which i agreed.
After the update was over, the software updater had more updates. I guessed that it was probably giving me updates in the chronological order. During a particular update, it gave the blue screen and "please restart" ... and when i rebooted it did not come up... just a blue screen... i verified the filesystem using the diagnostic tool and it again said it was corrupt .... I have done this twice now and i have a feeling it happened when i was updating the same batch of software updates.... sometimes my software updater would crash everytime i launch it.....
after I update and restart, it will keep on restarting. Now I can get to my desktop but I can't dont do anything. If I click on safari, finder etc, it will just restart.

i turn on my iMac it either freezes and the screen is all white or all blue. I have to try doing safe boot everytime i want to use it. While doing safe boot its not always sucessful, would have to do it 3 to 5 times until i get to the actual desktop.
View 17 Replies View RelatedToday I downloaded the MacOSXUpdCombo 10.7.4 from the apple website. I opened it up and it got to about half way through installation before a grey hue dropped down on my screen and a message appeared "Your computer needs to restart". After restarting, I got a error message saying that my computer had to shut down due to issues and to submit a bug report to apple. I decided to give it another go and the exact same thing happened

I'm one of the folks who got an early 2008 MacPro, ordered the day after they were announced. Besides the 8800 GT card, I also have 4 GB extra OWC RAM and 2x500 GB WD hard drives installed. My problem (and I tried searching, didn't find anything) is that it I accidentally bump the tower, like with my knee since it sits under my desk, it will restart. I've tried padding the side that's up against a leg of my desk, but it still restarts. It has nothing to do with what's currently running just if I bump it, it restarts.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have System Preferences applications like Fan Control, Apple Qmaster, and others that require the System Preferences to quit and reopen, when I click one of the apps it used to tell me it needs to quit and reopen and then it open and load the application, but now it quits and doesn't reopen, when I open it myself the same message appears that it needs to quit and reopen, and the application never opens.
In the Console this message appears:23 Mar 2012 4:11:07 PM /Applications/System Preferences.app/Contents/Resources/launcher[8499] posix_spawnattr_setbinpref_np failed
This may have started to happen after I used MacKeeper Files Cleanup tools, because I've had a similar problem with another application as well.

A couple days ago after restarting my imac I was shocked to find that my personal preferences had been reset to default and that some programs were behaving like they had just been installed. Firefox for instance asked me to import settings from safari, after skipping importing i found that all my bookmarks and add-ons were gone.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI was asked to performed a system update with a reboot which I proceeded to do. Once the reboot was complete I had lost my system time (which had been reset to December 31, 2000 and my background had been replaced with the original generic MAC background. I have been unable to find the source of this issue and I am unsure how to fix this. I was able to change my clock by adjusting the Date & Time Preferences and fix my background image as well, but I am concerned that this is a temporary fix. Has anyone else experienced this with a system update?

Now start up sequence stops with gray screen and spinning gear. I ran disk utility from Leopard start-up disk- no problem found. Still can't start from Mac Hard drive. What to do next?

View 7 Replies View RelatedSo, I did the sysytem update for my iMac desktop. It restarted the computer and loaded the initial page. It came to the log in page, so I click on my username and typed in my password. It goes to a white page and loops back to the log in page. Have reseted the computer but it's still not working. I don't know how to reboot it either. I have tried the control + s to reboot it but it's not working!

Tonight I upgraded my dad's macbook to Leopard, successfully. During the first login process, the software update asked me to install some updates, and that a reboot was required immediately (I imagine they were firmware related). I left the room to let the macbook do its thing and when I came back in my dad had shut the computer (not knowing I had done the firmware update thing). Long story short, I get an immediate kernel panic right away when I turn the computer on. I did not back up the data because I was only doing a system upgrade (which worked just fine!). When I boot, I do see the Apple Logo. I am able to boot into the Leopard Installation DVD. At this point, what are my options? I am only familiar with Linux and Windows advanced installations, so I don't know what is available to me.
1) Can I do a 'repair' on the firmware (or whatever is damaged?) from the DVD?
2) Am I able to do a fresh re-install of Leopard, without re-formatting the drive?
3) Does the 'Disk Utility' give me any options?
Ever since I downloaded OSX 10.7.3 Build 11D50b, I have had problems with the system failing to wake up when it has been asleep for a couple hours or more, also it tends to crash now.

I just bought a used 2011 iMac that came with 10.6.6 installed.
I am trying to update the system software and these two prompts come up:The update Mac OS X Combined can't be saved.Note: Use of this software is subject to the original Software License Agreement that accompanied the software being updated. A list of Apple SLAs may be found here: [URL] appears like there is a licensing dispute, but wondered what exactly that could be and what I need to do to move forward?

My old iMac desktop with Tiger OS installed crashed. I couldn't reboot. I tried the Hardware checkout I got with my MacBook and everything passed. I tried to start-up from the Tiger install disk--but couldn't. So, I went to my old 9.2 OS install disk and was able to startup. Problem is that it didn't let me do anything. I couldn't see my hard drive or attempt any kind of repair. I also can now not eject the system disk. What do I do to first get the 9.2 OS install disk out of my computer and then how do I retrieve my system? I thought I would try rebooting from my MacBook OS X install disk, which I probably should have tried before the 9.2 OS.

how do i uninstall the last system update?
It altered my helvetica font in a way that will cost me hundreds of hours re-kerning / resizing / repositioning text in CAD files for at least 10 large scale projects in progress at my architecture office.
This is an extremely serious & very expensive issue that has to be affecting all architecture firms who use macs the same way as it's affecting me & my business.

If this post is extremely repetitive from previous ones than I extend my sincerest apologies. The thing is that my software for my OS is up to date according to Software Update.Any thoughts or solutions?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI was doing the most recent software update today. During the process, it told me to power down. I did and now when I turn on the MBA, I'm only getting a black screen. I have tried a force restart (control-command-power), PRAM reset (command-option-P-R), and the SMC Reset (Shift-Control-Option Power). None of these steps corrected the problem. How I can get my MBA to boot?
