Intel Mac :: What Is Good Security Software For Mac
Mar 19, 2012
My bank seems to think that my Mac has a virus, as my accounts have had several attempted hacks over the last month. My computer seems to run fine and I haven't noticed any problems, but probably should buy some sort of security software before I change all my account numbers etc. I'm leary of just internet shopping for security software as I am not knowledgable enough to know if something is for real or not. What would you reccommend for as good security software?

Does he have a point?

I used to use Norton security softwares for my windows laptop and it works perfect. However, I am not sure if it is good or necessary to use those softwares in MBP. Moreover, since my MBP is retina one, it only has 256GB SSD. So I wonder if I need to buy it.

My question is: would they not cause conflict, as with apple you don't need to install security but windows is riddled with bugs and virus's surely one would infect the other?

I have just purchased an iMac, my first experience after many years with a Windows PC. Do I need to subscribe to a security package such as McAfee? The sales person told me that the iMac has its own protection and firewalls but I just wanted to check as I am not very technically proficient.

How good does it work? Does Snow Leopord run as smooth with the Intel GPU as with the 320M/330M? The intel GPU does not support OpenCL I heard, so when SL will make use of OpenCL alot, you need to activate the 330M all the time then?

In the last two years when I have attempted to update my security on my Macbook Pro (Tiger OS) it has either not completed the download or frozen my computer. I've had to back up and erase my hard drive twice and reload everything. Is there some sort of bug in this update? I want to update to snow leopard but when I've tried with the upgrade disk it tells me that Snow Leopard will not install on my OS. Will the security update facilitate that?

My mac just told me to install a security update and restart and I did it because its a security update, but when I logged back in and checked the official list for updates [URL], there are no official security updates for around the 10th of February. What should I do, is this bad? Is it a virus or hack?

I am thinking of getting te macbook Pro after having used one last week. I am completely in love with the OS.But things about the specs worry me. I am just asking to those who use Macbook Pro's whether the specs these laptops have are enough. I do a lot of video editing, mostly 3D animations and a lot of photoshop, along with some 3D rendering. I was wondering if the Intel's 3000HD graphics card in the 13 inch MBP will be enough for all this.

I seek recommendations please for a password storage site. I just am not able to remember passwords any longer. I definitely don't want to use only one password for all sites and generally couldn't any way due to different password criteria for different sites. [URL] & security lists a site called 1 Password Password Manager and Form Filler 2.9.21.There are also a bunch more listed on the net 5 pages on the page.

I have just bought my first Macbook and am enjoying the experience but am slightly nervous as I am used to using a PC and getting bombarded by email about viruses, trojans, spyware, malware etc and having to purchase and continually update my security. Now here I am on a Mac with apparently no security to speak of other than the firewall in my Netgear router...... I have heard some say "Macs don't get viruses!!! or Malware". Can someone who is a true Mac expert give me some decent advise? I am happy to buy McAfee or Norton but which is best.

So, recommendations on securing your Mac? I mean in terms of software. Filevault is an obvious one, as well as making sure you use strong passwords. A bit beyond this is setting a firmware password, to prevent changing the boot drive without the password. How about tracking stolen macs? Anything I can there?

No security slot is standing between me and an mba. Is there a solution short of a bicycle lock? Will they rectify this next version? I always cable lock my pro in a coffee shop. As Kissinger said, even paranoids have real thieves waiting to snatch their laptops.

I am running Mac OS 10.5.6 on a 2.16 Blackbook. There are two users registered to my system. My Login with a password and my housemate's user name (without a password).I was logged in when I opened the lid to receive the user and password prompt. At that point when I entered my housemate's user ID, Mac took my to MY desktop.
