OS X Technologies :: Updated Pre-Intel Mac But Getting Security Patch?
Apr 12, 2012
I have updated my pre-Intel Mac as far as I could go, using OS 10.5.8. Is there a security patch for this OS? I have 2 Macs of the same vintage using this OS.Â

Apple released a Mac OS X security update Tuesday that fixes a critical PDF vulnerability. The update, labeled Security Update 2010-005, addresses a "heap buffer overflow" in the way CoreGraphics handles PDF files. The vulnerability could allow "unexpected application termination or arbitrary code execution" through a malicious PDF file.
It is unclear whether this fix is related to the PDF exploit on iOS 4 that allowed hackers to jailbreak the iPhone. Apple released an update on August 11 that addressed the iOS PDF exploit.Security Update 2010-005 also patches a "stack buffer overflow" that would allow arbitrary code execution through a malicious embedded font. Both the PDF and the font vulnerabilities are fixed through "improved bounds checking."
Also included in the update are several routine fixes to network security flaws. The update affects Mac OS X Server 10.5, Mac OS X 10.5.8 , Mac OS X Server 10.6 , and Mac OS X 10.6.4.

how to enable Web Sharing, but I want to make it so that only certain people can access the shared directory. How can I make it so that users can get a password prompt and then see ALL files in my Users>myname>Sites folder? I see several complicated methods on the web on how to enable a password prompt for users coming to look at a file, but is there somewhere a simpler way to make this password-protected? BTW, I started the process, and was able to open httpd.conf using terminal, but, after I changed AllowOverride None to AllowOverride All, I was not able to save the file, even though I have Snow Leopard 10.6.8, which supposedly allows changes to httpd.conf.Â

I have Quicken 2007 for Mac on my G4 and would like to move it to my new iMac currently running Lion. I downloaded the recently-released update that will allow Quicken to run on Lion, then downloaded the file to an external USB drive. I then uploaded it to my iMac, and Quicken opens, but does not have any of my account information. I then deleted the files from my iMac and downloaded another copy of Quicken 2007 from the Quicken website. I then downloaded the update to my iMac, but it would not open. So, it appears that I have to transfer it form my G4, but need to do it in a way that will also transfer my data.
I ordered a firewire cable and am planning to try to move it directly. In the meantime, does anybody have any tips? Just so you know, I really want to use Quicken.

I have an HP 4050TN LaserJet printer that I had networked via ethernet to my iMac (when it was running just leopard) Once I did all the updates for 10.6.8, I found that my printer is nowhere to be seen, I can't add it. Nothing. I found hp printer drivers for Lion, but I'm not going to get Lion, if i just have to turn around and get Mountain Lion in a couple of months anyway .Regarding my Scanner:When I try to use my Cannon CanoScan 8800F MP Navigater justs quits. . . . My bank seems to think that my Mac has a virus, as my accounts have had several attempted hacks over the last month. My computer seems to run fine and I haven't noticed any problems, but probably should buy some sort of security software before I change all my account numbers etc. I'm leary of just internet shopping for security software as I am not knowledgable enough to know if something is for real or not. What would you reccommend for as good security software?

I have just purchased an iMac, my first experience after many years with a Windows PC. Do I need to subscribe to a security package such as McAfee? The sales person told me that the iMac has its own protection and firewalls but I just wanted to check as I am not very technically proficient.

I have an iPatch patch I need to apply with root privilege to an application. iPatch patches are drag and drop, which doesn't apply the privilege, so I think I need to apply it through the terminal.

After upgrading my Lion Server to 10.7.4 my DNS isn't working. I checked the settings of my domain name provider, modem and my computer with lion server. The settings of lion server appear correct even the indication suggest that DNS is working. I already checked that my webserver is working. All other functions of my server work fine.
