The sound on my imac goes on. But the screen stays black.I put the mac to sleep and it won't restart.I've tried unplugging it with no success.

I bought a MBA 13" last month and now I'm trying to connect an external monitor through a Mini Display Port-to-HDMI adapter and most of the times the display shows a message "No signal detected"...
I've tried all the possible combinations between the MAC and the Monitor but it would seem a random matter.

I'm trying to connect my Mac (OSX 5) to a flat screen TV. To do so I just bought a USB 2.0 to HDMI ® Display Adapter w/ Audio (1920 x 1080). The mini CD containing the DisplayLink software drivers that came with the unit won't fit in my Mac CD drive. I then tried to download the correct driver from the DisplayLink website, "DisplayLink USB Graphics Macintosh Driver" which appears to be appropriate for OSX 5 (at [URL]).
This proceeds through the installation steps, then bombs out with the error message that "The following install step failed: run preinstall script for DisplayLink software. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance." In the hopes of finding a compatible driver, I looked for an earlier version of the driver on the DisplayLink site, but couldn't find one.

Not long after startup, the display will darken on the left side and stay that way until reboot - still readable, but bothersome .

I'm using 2 IMac 27' and one is simply used as an external display. When I wake up the computer from sleep, it works on the main monitor, however the external display still has a black screen. I have to unplug the external monitor to get it to wake up. I tried unplugging thunderbolt and replugging it in which worked the first time, but same issue again not waking up.

With my 'old' Intel iMac using a Display Port adapter, my 24" LG Monitor would be detected correctly and worked first time. With my new 2011 iMac 27 using a genuine Apple mini DisplayPort adapter plugged into the Thunderbolt port, this same monitor now shows up as a generic VGA monitor and the range of resolutions is severely reduced - basically it looks terrible. I've tried disconnecting the cable, reconnecting, using the second Thunderbolt, changing resolutions, detecting displays, showing displays in the menu bar. All with no success.

My wife has an iMac (I don't know any other way to identify it e.g. model number), and she has this 3rd party calibration software that I'm trying to use. I am not used to a Mac, and I cannot find the display settings for the monitor. There are no buttons on the monitor, and when I go to preferences, I can only find the brightness control. I've googled this and cannot find a clear, simple answer. I have used every version of Windows (currently on 8.1 on my PC) and it's easy for me on that platform. I suppose it's just that I don't really know how to navigate Mac OS.

I have a fresh install of Windows XP, service pack 2 on a boot camp partition on my macbook (13" first gen aluminum case) and a Apple LED Cinema Display attached to the mini display port.
I can't seem to make the Cinema Display the primary display (the "Use this device as the primary monitor" checkbox is always greyed out in the Display Property Settings tab). I also can't shut the macbook lid and continue to use it closed (with kb, mouse and monitor attached) like I would when booting OSX.
Is there some other way to make the Cinema Display the primary monitor, so I can leave the macbook closed when booting into Windows?
As said, my current set up is an HDMI - DVI cable (HDMI to monitor and DVI to adapter) and my DVI - mini DisplayPort adapter, everything is connected fine but when I turn on the monitor, it says cable not found... and nothing is displayed on the screen but on the Macbook side of things, it sees the monitor is connected (I can extend the screen and leave the screen) but other than that, it appears I cannot get an image on the monitor, pressing every button on the monitor does not work either.
Any other information that may seem necessary, let me know. I tried clearing my PRAM and clearing the power and such but nothing seems to work.
i need to find out how to get my hands on the correct adapter to connect my macbook pro to my old G4 20 inch cinema display. i know there is an expensive powered unit, that is an adc to dvi adapter, but there is also just a regular dvi to adc adapter, and im not sure which one i need? or how to get my hands on one that doesnt cost over $200 (the powered one, if thats what i need)

So I Ihave the VGA cable going from the Mac into my windows laptop now (instead of my viewsonic monitor)... is there a way to view my mac mini desktop using my windows laptop screen instead of a separate monitor? So I've got a Macbook Air, a cheap 3d party miniDP to DVI dongle I just got from ebay that's connected to a DVI to VGA adapter which is in turn hooked up to an old-ish VGA monitor. my screen cracked on my MacBook and I'm unable to see anything (it's just fuzzy white) so I purchased the VGA adaptor so I can connect to an external monitor. When I plug in the screen is zoomed to close and I can not view the entire screen. I can see one application that I have open, which is iMovie but can not see the top menu or my icons at the bottom. How can I adjust the settings seeing how I can not access the menu bar or anything else for that matter. It also appears to be showing a second screen, maybe not my desktop because the background is different. I'm running on OS X Lion. Â
