I just bought a MacBook (13.3", 2GHz, 160GB, 2GB Aluminum, Late 2008)on ebay and at first the usb ports seemed temperamental. Now they only recognize my mouse and no other hardware (camera, usb stick etc). (It is running snow leopard.)
View 1 RepliesThis is a really weird question, but here'goes: I just got my internal blu-ray burner. I hooked it up, removing the fans and all that jazz to get the SATA cable plugged in. Turned on the computer, and the drive was not recognized.
I know it has power, since I can operate it manually (but no disks inserted are recognized in System Profiler nor Toast). Oh, and in the System Profiler under Serial-ATA it does list 6 ports (though 2 with hard drives, 1 and 4-6 are empty).
I fiddled around, made sure cables were plugged in, still nothing.
Then I tried to just plug in one of my extra internal hard drives through the connectors I was using for the 2nd optical drive (power and SATA cable). It won't recognize the hard drive (doesn't seem to even know it's there).
My USB ports don't recognize my USB/ MIDI keyboard. All drivers updated and updated to the latest Lion.

View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen my laptop stopped recognizing my external keyboard and mouse I searched the discussions and found an answer that has worked, but only temporarily. It was to do a PRAM reset 3 times and when I do this the keyboard and mouse work fine. But when I disconnect the mouse and keyboard and then later reconnect it will not recognize them. I have repeated the PRAM reset 3 times each time this has happened (4 times) and they work fine but then there is always a problem when I disconnect and reconnect.

My friend just got a 1.25GHz MDD but he says he is having problems with it. He says that when he starts it up, his mouse light (sensor) flickers and the keyboard does not work. The only way to fix this is to unplug and replug in the peripherals. He also tried on his Studio Display connected via ADC and the same thing happens. Could a PCI USB card help his problems or is there some way to fix the current USB ports?

This story begins with me using my Logitech MX Revolution mouse. It's a nice mouse, I really like it! When I first go the mac I promptly went to Logitech's site and downloaded the official logitech control center and everything worked out fine. Until a day ago, when I read that the logitech drivers are sort of sloppy, and using an utility such as USB overdrive, or steermouse would be better. (I decided to go for steermouse, as it looked to be more recently updated)
I uninstalled the logitech pref pane, and installed steermouse. This is where my troubles began. I couldn't quite seem to get the mouse to work properly, no matter what I tried on the menu. So I decided that, well, I guess this program is crap, and uninstalled it. When I went to reinstall the logitech pref pane, things started getting weird......................

If I bought a usb hub would this enable me to plug the transrecievers into the hub so I would have 1 usb port free? Im considering returning them and getting logtech's unifying transreciever, but they have no small keyboards that are compatible with it.

I just bought the latest macbook pro. It is actually my first mac so I'm not really sure if this is supposed to happen. But I tried plugging in my "ordinary pc" (meant to say that is not a Mac mouse) mouse which is an A4Tech brand. It's working when I move the mouse in huge spaces. It goes smoothly that way. But when I try to move it in small little spaces, it's kind of like not going smoothly. Especially when I'm working on small details like Photoshop, it's kind of difficult to maneuver the mouse arrow. I tried other "pc" mouse as well but it's just the same.. Does this really happen if I'm not using Mac's mouse? How do I fix this?

I use a Bluetooth Mighty Mouse and everything is fine... until my hourly wireless Time Machine backup starts. Then the mouse cursor becomes very choppy and sluggish. As soon as the hourly backup completes, the mouse's responsiveness returns to normal. Throughout all this, the trackpad is just as responsive as always -- no change there. I don't have another bluetooth mouse to see if its just the Mighty Mouse.
When this happens, the Activity Monitor is not spiked. The fans aren't running loud (so I don't expect its an overheating issue). This doesn't happen during a large wireless download -- just Time Machine. It's not a big deal, but rather an annoyance.
Any ideas why? Or even more to the point, any ideas on how to fix it?
I'm using a Logitech MX 518 mouse. It was working fine with the exception of the two side buttons; they weren't set up the way I liked and the mouse control panel did not let me change them. I installed some Logitech drivers (lcc213) that were supposed to support the mouse; upon reinstalling the mouse was not recognized by the Logitech software. The scroll wheel became very sluggish (maybe scrolling one line, and seemingly no acceleration). I removed the Logitech software and restarted, but now my mouse is stuck that way - moving the scroll speed in the Mouse preferences all the way to the left or all the way to the right makes no difference.
Is there any way to reset the mouse drivers or whatever might be messed up, short of a reinstall?
I even tried to use USB Overdrive and that likewise has no effect on the scroll speed.
If I pair a bluetooth mouse to my Macbook Pro, will it wake itself up inside it's bag (potentially over heating it and killing my batter) if it receives input from the mouse?
View 4 Replies View RelatedEvery once in a while the mouse pad will stop working. A wireless mouse will work in its place. The keyboard will also act extremely slow during this time. It seems like the buffer is full and it moves on to the next letter i type without using the previously typed letter.

I know mighty mouse might be the perfect mouse for iMac. But is it too big for MacBook pro 13" and downgrade portablity? Should I buy bluetooth mighty Mouse for my new MacBook pro 13" or go for those smaller, lighter and cheaper bluetooth mouse from logitech/Microsoft? The MBA is advertised to run an external, such as an ACD.
I jut looked at the ports and i find it really strange that the MagSafe connector is on the left, but the mini display port is on the right... Now you will have cables on both sides? How does this work with the set of MagSafe + display port + USB in an ACD? I don't think they are long enough to go around? Or would you have to plus in the other MagSafe and just use the right side for display port and USB. That is silly though.

I plugged my ipad in to syncs and charge, and the ipad said, "not charging." some research on the net yielded information that the iPad requires a higher powered USB port, which all late model macbooks have... All except mine apparently.....
So, I tried the other USB port, and low and behold, the ipad started charging. So the question is, is this the design of the MBP, or do I perhaps have a sub-optimal USB port?
Just wondering why does apple supply firewire ports on all their comps including laptops, because these days I can't find anything that has firewire ports that I will use everyday i.e. flash disc, HD, mouse etc. I know there's somewhere a 2.5" HD firewire case available but I already have a USB case for an external, and it would probably be more expensive to get it. What do you guys use firewire ports for?

I have the printer connected to my iomega powered hard drive which in turn connects to my MBP via firewire 800. Earlier the printer was working fine when the iomega was connected via a USB port. BUt im short on USB ports (one goes to my Companion 5 speakers and the second to a 2nd display besides the mini DVI display) hence need to connect via firewire.
