I have a new Imac and for some reason over the last few days when I start up the machine it says it can not read the disc but I have no disc in and it asks me to either eject, confirgure or ignore.

I have recently moved from a PC laptop and have been sent email messages to this account on my iMac successfully for several weeks. The email address in question is actively sending and receiving messages. I can receive email from that account.

On bootup, my computer shows this: [URL] and won't start. If I try to boot from an OSX startup CD, it flashes between that, the ordinary apple, and circle with a bar through it, but won't move beyond that. Ive recently had to re-install Tiger after being told that there was an error in the startup volume. I am far from computer savy so I just basically follow instructions  Sadly, after doing so Ive been experiencing problems with my iPod nano & iTunes. I can sync but the songs put onto my iPod look gray instead of black. And, when I disconnect my iPod says there arent any songs on it. When I look at Music in Finder I noticed that I get a few items listed more than once. If I click on 'Relaunch' it does nothing.
I have reported it, but nothing has changed.
Clicking on 'ignore' makes it go away, but it reappears every time I power up my CPU.
AppleCare didn't even know what it meant either!
Any suggestions? What is "LOGINserver" anyway?
While opening Apple Remote Desktop, this happened. It has been working fine and now it wont open. I know I will need to use Terminal to fix it.
View 1 Replies View RelatedOk so I have an 8800 GS imac, 3.06 intel core 2, 4 gigs ram. Running snow lepord. I need to resolve an issue where I can not get into OSX. At first I got error messeges saying my external HDD could not read, now it looks like its my primary drive because when I restarted I got the progress bar under the apple logo, indicating that something is wrong with the OS. The bar when to full 100% but then I got stuck at never ending spinning wheel. I restarted and no more progress bar but still the spining wheel of death. I really dont mind refomrating its just that I had some important text documents and other files that I cant get back without recoving them some how. How to proceed? I held down cmd v or s (i forgot) on startup and got a black screen with several problem statements. One reads the system boot strapper has crashed trace BPT trap.

After each input, e.g. opening preview or a browser, the coloured turning disc appeared and nothing happened anymore. Several restarts, also in safe mode, were unsuccessful. I could not switch to another user. Restart is only possible at all from installation disc but thereafter problem remains the same.

Yes or No" Not matter if I pick yes or no, the next message says: "Photo has been placed in folder .../.../.../recovered photo_8" I now have 8 of these stupid recovered photo folders. Is there a way to make iPhoto not automatically search my computer?? I would rather drag and drop the photos that I want in there anyways.

Did a Shift - Command-V and the black screen showing all the startup steps appeared and it all looked good except: AFL Alart Sockwed cant update and INIT Reboot transmit failed. All else looks good. I have tried this 3 times and never go past that point. Then the screen turns off white like it does when it starts normally before the apple appears and the last time the screen went black.
I have tried starting with just the Shift Key and computer starts up but not in safe mode. I have tired starting with the OS X disk and the C key and it will not recognize the disk.I used the #1 disk since the instructions are printed on the disk. Did not work so I tried disk 2 and I get a menu to start the OS or tools. If I click on either one the screen goes white and stays that way.
computer starts fine and provides a login window, and then the desktop screen with screen saver pictures in perfect color. As it goes through starting programs it starts the same programs that is had open when the computer originally crashed. Even when I close them, before it locks up again, and I am forced to restart the same programs open up to the same place. Its like the computer is frozen in one location and will not go beyond that point. Eventually the screen turns white and sometimes black and sometimes gray.
Tech support thought it was the video card, put a new one in but did not fix the problem and then said it was not that but that it was the monitor. I said that did not make sense since the monitor and desktop icons and pictures are beautiful and clear. They then said it was the inverter board on the monitor and Apple only replace the whole thing. I purchased an inverter board and replace it. No change. The tech person said that the computer works find without the monitor connected - I will see if that is correct next. Isn't that a more systimatic testing procedure then trying parts to see if it works? Oh I did do the complete long hardware test. Took about an hour and it passed! Isn't this strange?
