Intel Mac :: McAfee Scan Not Working - Unknown Errors Received
Jul 6, 2012
Tried to scan Mac this morning: got message "unknown errors received from scanners". So tried McAfee's Virtual Technician which reported '1.0.0.2 - platform not supported' against Internet Security, Application Protection, Desktop Firewall and Antimalware.

I'm trying to run iTunes Match and it simply stalls at stage 1. Yes, I believe I've tried the fixes listed in other places where this seems to have been an ongoing issue since launch - and not all of these work for the people there, either. These include removing stoping and starting Match, stopping and starting Genius, stopping and starting Genius and Match, moving the iTunes Library files and reimporting them as new libraries and so on. Nothing is working for me.Â
I run iTunes match and it matches "most" of my songs and then stalls. I've left it for days to see how long the stall is and it never clears.Over the last few days' stops and starts, it's matched as follows:
13508 / 14010
13535 / 14010
13541 / 14010
13998 / 14010
[Code]...
iTunes frequently also can't access the iTunes Store or comes up with unknown errors.this is an entirely new music library. I set up my Mac from scratch a few months ago with a new SSD. My music library had a lot of old files sampled at low bit rates - I was re-ripping to flac for my hifi, so I decided to re-rip to iTunes as well at the same time (my previous iTunes Match had lots of stuff it couldn't match, but was uploaded at a low bit rate since that was all that was available). My network connection is wired and I have very good broadband (cable) speed.

We've been trying to download the latest digital copy of Mission Impossible from iTunes and have had no luck. It stops downloading and gives an error message (unknown error occurred (-50)) and have received (err - 8008). We've checked for software updates, rebooted the system and tried again, but nothing.Â

I have just purchased an iMac, my first experience after many years with a Windows PC. Do I need to subscribe to a security package such as McAfee? The sales person told me that the iMac has its own protection and firewalls but I just wanted to check as I am not very technically proficient.

Solution to making Mavericks email the received faxes?
I am using a USB Modem. I can receive faxes. They go into the Faxes folder I designated. I have the box checked to forward the received faxes to an email address (as I did in Mountain Lion), but the faxes do not get forwarded.

So I had a recently purchased 17" BTO with the 7200RPM drive that worked great, but with one issue - the display would have horizontal scan lines and black out occasionally. So I called up Apple and eventually managed to get a cross-ship set up(they let me hold on to my current unit, charge my credit card and send me a second brand new 17" unit as a replacement, and then refund me for the second 17" after I send back the defective unit).
Anyway, the replacement unit looks great, but with one issue - there's a very small light dent on the bottom panel(maybe about the size of a dime). I was annoyed but don't think this is worth having to exchange, since I could probably just unscrew the panel and pop it back into place.
However, what really got to me was the fact that my replacement unit was slightly louder than my original - my original is so silent that I can't even tell it's on. However, with my replacement unit, I can hear the hard drive spinning, which is slightly annoying.
Anyway, I proceeded to restore from a time machine backup and test my replacement unit when I noticed that it would occasionally get the hard drive click + beep + freeze issue that many others who have the 7200 RPM drive seem to be facing. It's extremely annoying, and more importantly I miss the complete silence of my older unit.
My question is, while I'm still in possession of both units(which both have the exact same specs, same 7200 RPM drive, etc.), should I simply just open both up and take the silent(good) hard drive from my old unit and put it into my new one?
The click+beep freeze issue is really pissing me off, and my old unit didn't suffer from it - it's just this replacement one(doesn't make any sense).Anyway, would notice if I switched the hard drive? Would I get screwed somehow? Do they keep track of the hard drive serials or something?
I really don't want to go through the pain of sending this back, especially considering that a LOT of people are suffering from this issue, and I don't want to end up with another defective drive. I'm sick and tired of games and just want a computer that WORKS.

My 24" iMac had some graphical glitches and froze up, so I ran MemTest86 on it and got a number of errors reported on my RAM.Â
I had upgraded from 2x1gb to 2x2gb and kept the old RAM, so I gave that a try. This time MemTest86 itself came up with graphical glitches and reported problems on this RAM as well.Â
I gave up for the night and the following morning when trying to boot, all I get is the monitor powering up and the Mac boot sound. The system then reboots immediately and does the same thing over and over. Screen powers on (stays black though) and sound plays. I never get to a gray screen at all nor does the Apple logo ever appear.Â
Trying to boot to safe mode, off cd, single user mode are all unsuccessful, I never get out of the boot sound loop.Â
NVRAM/PRAM reset attempted, likely unsuccessful.Â
I've tried booting with 1 DIMM and 2 DIMM across the different RAM I have, but the same thing always occurs. Only time I get different behaviour is when booting with no RAM, and then I just get a beeping tone.Â

McAfee released a new version of Internet Security (firewall/av) protection for Mac. Is this something worth investing in? Currently I'm using iAntivirus to perform weekly scans and have the built-in firewall enabled other than those items I'm not using any other security software.

How can I completely remove an old non-functional McAfee virus protection app from my MacBook Pro? It seems that a ghost of it still appears at the top of the screen on the upper menu bar. I'm thinking that there may be other (hidden) components that could safely be removed too.

Installed virus scan in an unnecessary attempt to resolve some issues a year ago. I uninstalled it. A year later the Mac continues to have issues with the "VirusScan Reporter" failing to check in, exiting with exit code, etc. These issues seem to appear on the command log right around the time I get the spinning rainbow and it locks up. (I have ~20% free disk space, etc.)
