Intel Mac :: How To Record Video From Digital TV To IMac / What Cables / Applications
May 28, 2012
I have a Panasonic Viera (2006) digital TV. It has every possible port on the back (and even ports on one side.)The TV is connected to a digital TV tuner/hard disk recorder unit. The tuner also has a ton of ports. What do I need to do in order to send video from the TV to the Mac and record it on the Mac?(Either live TV or video playback from the hard disk recorder.)With my old analog TV, I used the Interview XLR8 USB video capture device with the Interview application or BTV application. (I think even Quicktime could record from the XLR too.)Seems digital TV doesn't work with the XLR8. Is that right? I tried the XLR8 with various combinations of inputs/outputs but can't seem to get any video to appear on the Mac.
I see that HDMI is one way out from Mac out and view on the TV.I also have a VCR and DVD player connected to the TV via a switcher box. With the variety of digital and analog outputs from these devices, seems I should be able to get video from the TV into the Mac.

I'm looking at getting a system that will fly through digital imaging, both stills and HD video. I don't do much gaming, and frankly, with the exception of my photo hobby/passion, a iPad would have enough processor power. I've looked at the MacPros as well as the Macbook Pros and Imacs. For my imaging needs, the laptop, while nice to have portable power, doesn't have the display I need/want.
I've been seriously considering an iMac 27" with the i7 processor, probably 8gb ram (considered 16, but might be overkill) and 2tb hd. I WISH I could get one with a large SSD, but I guess not an option yet.
My other consideration was MacPro, this gives me lots of bells and whistles, and I'm thinking probably overkill (I tend to do that sometimes), although speed is unmatched, for all practical purposes.
My question is, would the iMac as described be sufficient for my needs or be overkill. Budget is liberal (within reason) but I know that I'm upgrading from my photoshop CS4 (PC edition) to CS5 mac version, lightroom, as well as getting new network setup for house and 13"macbookpro for daughter.

I'm planning on adding how to videos to my site (flash) so that its easier for my customer to understand how to use a page. Ie instead of trying to explain common things in a FAQ I would have a video actually showing them. Ideally I'll be able to record my actions on screen and my voice as I describe what I'm doing. I'm willing to pay for the app, but just not that much ie less than $100. Now I don't need an all in one, for instance if there is a free app to do screen recording and another free app that can record my voice and another to merge them together I'm fine with that. I understand that free is free and I have to deal with some of the headaches. Any advice as to what software I would need. A quick google for mac screen recording brings a bunch of results.

I have a Mac pro 1,1 model and recently upgraded the video card to a Saphirre 6870 card. It works great right out of the box on both Mac and pc side of my Mac pro. From my online research, this card seems to be the best card that works with my mac pro so far, however I plan on getting an even more powerful card to use exclusively on my windows partition for games. I want to get a 6970 card, but that one may not work on the Mac side, so I plan on using both cards (the 6970 for the pc side, and the 6870 for the Mac side). There are two ways that I think may be possible but I wouldn't know how. One, is there a switch device that allows me to switch between cards without having to disconnect and reconnect them every time ? And second possible way, is there a way to house the second video card externally with its own power supply? The issue if that the are not enough power connections for both cards, so is there a way to power one card externally?

So my late 2009 iMac doesn't like headphones. When I have no headphones plugged in, I get the sound fine, and the output shows as internal speakers. But when I plug in headphones, the output shows as Digital Output. ***!!? The red light used to be there but only when the problem started, now it's gone. I've tried toothpick, Q Tip, everything. I think it's a hardware issue cause it does it on Snow Leopard, Mavericks, and even Yosemite. Since it's an '09 model my warranty is gone.

Finding an effective way to transfer old VHS videos to my Mac with Yosemite so that I can burn them to DVDs. These are so important to me as they include videos of my three children from birth until the age of DVDs. There is NOTHING out there that I can find that will work. The "Debut" program available online for free does not clarify whether it will work with a Mac or with Yosemite.

Symbology confirmed for the power cable for me already, can anyone else who has installed an SSD confirm the other? If not, can you post a link from Amazon of the correct one? I bought a second screen a few days ago, the 23" LG M2394D. I have got it connected to my 24" Aluminium iMac. The resolution of the monitor is 1920x1080 and the iMac is 1920x1200. System preferences lets me assign the different resolutions on the different screens, but the quality on the second screen at 1920x1200 is very dodgy. If i put it to 1650x1050 it looks better, but not as good as the apple display. I have also noticed that the picture is 'too big for the screen', i.e. there is some of the picture outside of the screen area that i cant see. I have the screen connected via the Apple MiniDVI to dvi connector and then a DVi to HDMI cable into the screen. Is it the HDMI that is causing some of the problems? would a straight DVI cable work better? Here is the screen: [URL]

Basically need to know if there is a method of accessing the 360's HDD from an iMac (3.06GHz model) without using XSATA or xsata cables as, you know, there isn't a way to connect xsata cables to the iMac, as far as I know anyway.

I know you can use iSight as a camera to record in iMovie or Photo Booth...but is it possible to record a video chat? So say me and my bro are chatting, can iSight record that chat, so I would be able to see both me in a little box, and my bro in the main portion of the screen? Or would I need more of a screen capture program for that?

I know the Mac has a screen recorder, but the problem is it doesn't record onboard audio in addition to the screen recording. I've also tried the audio recording stuff and it just doesn't work.So are there any programs out there that can record audio AND video at the same time, in one file, on the Mac? I've tried the AudioHijack and Audacity stuff, but it's impossible to sync it with the screen-recorded video

I recently bought an eMac and it is the first mac that i've ever owned so I am not completely familier yet on what to do to make everything work. My problem - I have a digital camera that has the ability to take video. When I plug the camera into the computer iPhoto recognizes the pictures but neither iPhoto or iMovie recognize the video. It there a way to make this work so I can upload the videos to my computer? I know the videos can be moved to computers for I have done it on my pc.
