Can I use the built-in camera on my Macbook Pro (circa 12/2010,OS X v.10.7.3) to record video? If so, what app to use?

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.3)
I know you can use iSight as a camera to record in iMovie or Photo Booth...but is it possible to record a video chat? So say me and my bro are chatting, can iSight record that chat, so I would be able to see both me in a little box, and my bro in the main portion of the screen? Or would I need more of a screen capture program for that?

I was wondering if it is possible to record with either photobooth or iMovie running in the background without getting the clip cut.
when you minimize photobooth the isight stops recording untill you open the app again.
Is there ANY way i can keep recording without having the app opened up all the time?
Or is there some kind of windows hider or something to get around this?
The iSight just won't focus properly. If I hold my hand right up close to it it picks it up fine, but just a normal face shot it's so bright you can hardly make out the face?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an out-of-warranty 2005 iMac G5 running OS X 10.5 in my bedroom. The screen is very unreliable to the point where it stayed off all the time or gave weird colors and I had to purchase an external monitor (via mini-VGA). I have installed (successfully) spanning tools to allow both extended desktop (2 dual monitors) and mirrored display (2 monitors showing same thing).
However, after hooking up the external display, the iMac's bright display lights up my bedroom. I want to turn OFF my built-in display (i.e. no backlight) and have my external monitor act as my main display --- avoids having two displays eating electricity. Is this possible? (using any Terminal commands?) I don't want the computer to sleep, just to turn off the main display (even manually removing wires will work, if I can find a how-to guide on this!)
Anyone using their MBA with VMWare Fusion running Windows XP? If so, could you please tell me if your built-in iSight is working in Windows?

Is there an app for like that iphone that I can use to connect to my laptop at work to monitor the isight and listen into the mic without the green light going off?I would love to know if such an app exists or if theres a possible way to do this w/o people know my laptop is in surveillance mode.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've been looking around all afternoon and can't seem to find out how to get the built-in iSight on the new 15 inch April 2010 MacBook Pros to take pictures and record at 1280 by 1024.
I've seen numerous places link me to Mac Daddy World, but that test app is only yielding 640 by 480.
Many places have also recommended to use Quartz Composer, but my knowledge of the program is limited, and I was still only able to get a 640 by 480 stream.
After years of using Sony hdr500 video cam, iMovie stopped recognizing it and then stopped recognizing the built in iSight cam as well. Now photo booth does not see it either. I have restarted the computer to reset SMC and that did not resolve the problem.

My built-in external mic doesn't record any audio when recording at all with the webcam. I've seen that this problem happens a lot in iMovie and Photo Booth, but my problem is a little unique, in that it doesn't record audio when recording with any program, not just Photo Booth and iMovie. I've tried QuickTime and even YouTube's webcam capture option, to no avail.
However, the most puzzling aspect of this is that I know for a fact that the built in external mic is functional, because I can make video calls from Skype without any problems.
I am trying to create my signature in preview using the built-in isight camera but nothing happens when I click "accept".

Going to setup a raid using apples utitlity to get a raid 0 of two 640 blacks for my 2008 MP. I have adequate back up, including time machine and two separate back up discs that I keep information on. My macbook pro also has the same information with its own time machine back up.
So I have to wipe my original 640 so the new raid can be created I assume. Should I restore from time machine to put my info back on after creating the raid setup? Is there an easier way, one that doesn't require me copying all my information over?
I'm after the easiest way I can link my Macbook to my TV so that I can use it to play dvds (if that's possible). The Macbook spec is as below and the TV has the usual connections (video, audio right speaker, audio left speaker, scart).

View 9 Replies View RelatedIf you use YouTube and own a Mac, you need TubeTV! It's hard to find a layman's application that downloads and converts YouTube videos into a format your computer and iPod can easily play. All you do is copy the link, click the download button, and TubeTV instantly downloads and converts the video. Best of all, it's free; 100% freeware that's powerful, simple, and exactly what I needed. Get this App! I'll see how I like it over the next couple weeks, I'd def. be willing to donate to the developers of this app.
