This week my Mail sound started going off for all types, incessantly, including receipt of the much Junk filtered out of the Inbox into Junk. Formerly I received alert sounds only for new Inbox mail. I have unchecked the "Play sounds for other actions" in Mail Preferences which does no good.

I was installing the latest update to Mail Tags in Mail and it crashed in the process of the update. Now mail won't run - it just hangs. I reinstalled Mail and it's still doing the same thing so it must be the mail data file (right?). Can I rebuild the data file without running mail? What to do?

I have problem with handling e-mail. It is hypothetical now but will become real when I do the switch. I work as a salesman and have .mac + 5 other POP e-mail accounts. Now we will have 2 or even 3 persons involved in receving and answering e-mails. IMAP solution is recommended. .mac is already on IMAP but other 5 accounts are not.My Internet/host provider told me that it is really easy to make a switch from POP to IMAP mail at their end but that I will that moment lose all e-mails and outgoing mails collected on my iMac. I have 39000 incoming mails on my iMac from last 5 years. As you can guess it is valuable commodity. Just few days ago I archived all mails (received and sent) older than 1000 days. That was fairly painless procedure.
how should I handle this problem with transition to IMAP without losing my valuable mails? Person at Internet hosting suggested to move mail operations to Zimbra mail that is copletely cloud oriented. As you can guess over the years I become acustomed to Mail and I am reluctant to change e-mail client now.

I had some email come to me and I didn't feel like reading it that moment ... so i waited an hour or so and then I returned to my mail account to actually open and read it. Strangely enough it was not there anymore. My qurestion is this,.. if an email is sent by someone, ....and it is not opened up,... can that sender (using a downloaded app of some sort) retract that email after giving it some thought ... so that the recipient doesn't have that email anymore?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a new iMac, which came with Lion. I am now using system version 10.7.3.
Everything (as far as I can tell) transferred correctly from my previous computer, by way of Time Machine. Except that Mail does not work at all. I spent a lot of time with Apple tech support, to no avail.
Here are the symptoms: Mail does not show ANY messages or mailboxes -- just a grey, completely empty window -- not even empty folders -- not one folder, not one smart folder, not one message -- everything in the View menu is greyed outI can get all the windows to show up except the main oneif I select "New Viewer Window" in the file menu, Mail crashes and I have to force quitif I select "Message Viewer" in the Window menu, I get the empty grey window.
The first tech support person said everything would work when it was finish indexing. Of course that was not true.
The second had me delete and reinstall the accounts. Then the program spent a lot of time apparently syncing the IMAP accounts, but still nothing in the window.
mail does not open from dock. Also unable to manually quit mail. tried to restart computer but message says unable because mail prevented it.

Just recently, my Norton Internet Solutions (particularly Anti-Virus) has been disabled, and emails sent to people on my contact lists in Eudora, by some sort of Trojan. Mail also seems to be involved, because it opens unexpectedly, and tries to contact the internet without reason, as I've learned through 'Little Snitch'. My two anti-virus programs, Avast! and Norton don't seem to be able to detect this problem.
