I have a new iMac, which came with Lion. I am now using system version 10.7.3.
Everything (as far as I can tell) transferred correctly from my previous computer, by way of Time Machine. Except that Mail does not work at all. I spent a lot of time with Apple tech support, to no avail.
Here are the symptoms: Mail does not show ANY messages or mailboxes -- just a grey, completely empty window -- not even empty folders -- not one folder, not one smart folder, not one message -- everything in the View menu is greyed outI can get all the windows to show up except the main oneif I select "New Viewer Window" in the file menu, Mail crashes and I have to force quitif I select "Message Viewer" in the Window menu, I get the empty grey window.
The first tech support person said everything would work when it was finish indexing. Of course that was not true.
The second had me delete and reinstall the accounts. Then the program spent a lot of time apparently syncing the IMAP accounts, but still nothing in the window.
I've been trying to empty files in trash, and everytime I do, it brings up a new finder window and says that it's preparing to move to trash, but it's already in trash. When I try to take it out of trash it says that it's copying the file to my desktop.
I have one email account that is IMAP and two Pop accounts. The IMAP shows up in the email window but the POPs don't. All showed up before today and no changes have been made. How do i get the POP accounts to show up again?
How can I view mail messages in a smaller window? when I open a message it takes up the whole screen of the iMac. It is also very small writing. I tried clicking on the green button. This works on my mac book pro but not on my iMac. When I try zoom to make the text bigger it does not wrap around.
When I click on the Trash in the Dock, an empty window appears with the Title "Window". I've not viewed the Trash recently, so I don't know how long this has been going on. I've done a Repair Permissions a couple times, but with no benefit. Any thoughts? I intentionally put files into the Trash and can see the files via the command line when looking in the ~/.Trash folder. Besides the lack of files, the window title is obviously wrong.
I am running Aperture 3.5.1 in current version of Mavericks on a MAcBook Pro. I am trying to use PSE 12 as an external editor to resize, merge and some other stuff I want to do prior to printing on an Epson 3880.
When I try to send a file to PSE by Photos>Edit with PSE 12, an empty window opens in PSE. There is nothing in the Photo Bin. What am I doing wrong or is this not possible to do without exporting a TIFF to my desktop, etc.? I am checking PSE out with their 30 day demo version, if this makes any difference.
I use iCloud for syning Mail & Notes. Contacts, Calendars and Documents & Data. I am 100% sure that in the past in iTunes/Info tab "Sync contacts" and "Sync Mail Accounts" showed all my different Address Book groups and different email account to be synced. Since recently they seem disappeared and I only see my different Calendars to be synced. Why are both Sync contacts empty and Sync Mail Accounts both emtpy/dimmed. BTW if I check Sync contacts I get a message that they are synced through iCloud etc. etc. Now if I enable on my Mac another email account in Apple Mail it is not added to my iPhone/iPad anymore. How can I change that ?

When I am in Google Chrome and I go Chrome -> Preferences all I see is an empty window that's called 'Under the Hood' WTF?! That's all I get. I cant do anything with it, I have left it open for ages. I just decided to switch from Safari because this is quicker and YouTube was making my Safari just freeze up.
I cannot find my iPhoto Library file. I had almost 17,000 pictures and now when I start iPhoto it shows an empty window to choose a new library or use an existent. But there is no library anymore under my pictures folder. I used Data Rescue 3 and Virtual Lab do not find pictures in my HD. How can I spotlight or find iPhoto Library in case I moved it somewhere else?
I just upgraded my hdd a couple of mins ago from the 120 gig to a seagate 500gig , but before doing that i used "carbon copy cloner" to clone my old drive, as well as the 8gig partition i had there where i used to keep my copy of snow leopard (easier that carrying the disk around).CCC cloned both partitions perfectly.I named them Mac and Mac-backupthen I created another partition using disk utility and named it Win - this is where i want to install win7 via bootcamp. The "Win" partition is totally empty.
I have previously used the GRAB utility to take a snapshot of an open Safari windiw, and the snapshot included the entire windiw contents. When I opened the snapshot in Preview, I could scroll up and down and view the entire contents of the original Safari windiw. Then, I tried it again a few hours later on a different Safari window, but I then got only the part of the windiw that was visible in the browser at the time that I GRABbed the window (i.e., when I took the snapshot). What do I need to do to get the entire windiw?
Mail viewer window closes immediately after starting Mail. It flashes up in a small frame and then closes. If I try to view in full screen mode, it will open and then shrink to the top quarter of the page. The lower 3/4 page will be black and it will not allow me to do anything.
I've used mac now for almost a year and I'm loving every bit of it! I do have one problem though with mail - I've stored all my important emails, but if I now go back, some of them are completely blank - I can't see the content of the mail, the email is just completely empty. This is not the case for all old emails, but only for certain emails.
since updating to Yosemite, in the Mail app, the Inbox of all my accounts doesn't show any mail ... it does right after launching Mail but after fetching new messages it shows empty.
to solve the issue I have to go to each account and read the new messages and then return to the Inbox ... and all messages are visible again.

I've been obliged to reinstall ALL my data.On a brand new hard drive, I did a clean DVD install of 10.6.5, and then a clean Software Update install of 10.6.8, in my MacBook Pro Intel Core 2 Duo, with 4 MB of RAM.I have NOT been able to rely upon my Time Machine backups (long story).Instead, I've been obliged to do a raw copy of all my data from an external hard drive.Everything seems to be back where it was except Mail 4.5.Mail launches fine, it can see all my accounts, it can pull down new mail, and I can see all my Mail folders, as evidenced by this screen grab:The problem is that ALL my Mail folders (Inbox, Drafts, Sent, Trash, Junk, etc) appear to be empty.
So, for example, the Mail folder called 'Newspapers' shows that it has 20,418 unread messages within it.However, when I click on the 'Newspapers' folder, I can't see ANY messages, either read or unread.Instead, I just get a blank white screen. All my Mail accounts are running on standard POP configs. No IMAP complexities, or anything like that. I've installed EXACT copies of these three folders, all of which worked fine before I was forced to reinstall all my data:

Since installing Mavericks I have found that lots of basic tasks have become a bit difficult.
One such frustrating example of this is whenever I go to empty my trash folder in Mail it crashes. If I select it through the menu (ie. <Mailbox> <Erase Deleted Items> <In All Accounts>) it works fine but I like to do a quick check before emptying the trash and that seems to cause my Mac to implode into a processing black-hole of burning lava (it gets hot until I <Force Quit>).
I'm having a new problem with Mail in Mavericks that seems to have just started around a month ago. When I have emails in the trash in Mail and choose Erase Deleted Items to empty the trash it seems to fully delete them all within the Mail app. But as I just discovered yesterday by going to the gmail website (for the first time in awhile) they are apparently not being deleted from the server. The emails are properly being moved into trash within gmail but when emptying trash in Mail they do not empty within gmail.
As I said, this is a recent problem that never happened with Mavericks Mail for me before a month ago. I just updated to 10.9.4 today and its still happening.
I just bought a new iMac with OS X Mavericks, and when I transferred my data from my old iMac with Snow Leopard, all my mailboxes appeared, but they were empty. How can I get back my saved emails?
I have put a large amount of data into the Trash, including some back-ups. It will not empty now - it calculates the size of the task, shows about 1.9m and then reduces by one of two and stops.
My trash won't empty...each time I try it says sevearl files are in use when they are not open. I have restarted the computer and tried to empty the trash ans still says it is in use. There are many files...possibly picture files. How do I get all the files to empty out?
I have 2 aliases from an INtel PC that I deleted from a flash drive. After hitting "empty the trash" I hear the trash epty but the 2 files are still there. When I use "secure empty trash" I get the error message:
The Finder can’t complete the operation because some data in “” can’t be read or written. (Error code -36)
The names of these files remain in the trash but I cannot remove them to the desktop to check permissions. THey show zero Mb file sizes.
