I have a Mac Plus 4mb that booted up fine with its system tools disk but I put in disk 1 of Dark Castle and a bomb appeared. Since then I cannot get it to boot up using the system disk that worked ok to start with. I have removed the power cord, left it overnight and still no luck. How do I reset it so it reads the system tools disk and boots up?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI can barely see digital pictures and the likes. But websites and such i can see fine so long as the colors are light and looking on this site... [URL]
the first image i absolutely cannot see, it is 100% pitch black.. the other bellow it shows up just fine. But the two left/lowest squares on the color table on the very bottom the page both appear the same shade of pitch black.
I can see light but not dark. I tried callibrating and adjusting brightness and contrast.
This is my error after my recently installed iiTunes 12.0.1.2 quits unexpectedly. This can happen a few seconds to a few minutes after opening itunes library or when refreshing podcasts.

my screen is just randomly going dark. its not shuting down - just seems to go to sleep but nothing I do wakes it short of turning the power button off then on. When I do that it quickly comes on again and seems to work fine. Seems to be happening with more and more frequency and is not particular to any software. I've read the boards here - I'm not a gamer ( no games on this computer) I'm a photographer with lots of files and I use photoshop alot. Yesterday I was on you tube and my screen went dark again but the video was still playing - I could still hear it. In fact, I could hit my mouse to stop and start the video but I couldn't see anything. My wife has a 2009 27" iMac that has been perfectly fine since we purchased it. I had upgraded my old Macbook Pro to 8GB of ram and had the old 2GB sitting around. It was DD3 1066 just what hers took so decided to put the ram in her machine. Shut it down, unplugged all the cables, flipped it over on a towel and inserted the ram. Booted it up and now I get this same effect as the pictures in this thread: [URL]..
We took our own pics but they did not come out well. Both the upper corners have this. Never had an issue before and we are in a climate and humidity controlled room. Obviously the machine is out of warranty but I know this was a problem before on 27" models.  Literally it was fine, turned it off, put in the ram, flipped it back over, and turned it back on then the spots were there.Â
Has a real root cause ever been found for this? Worth it to pull the glass and check the screen itself?
My 24' Imac screen went 1/2 black on top the bottom is fine, can I fix this myself?

My son's imac screen went dark after a power interruption (someone turning the computer off by pulling cord out of electric socket) and I can't get it to go back on. I've already tried depressing the "command, alt,p and r" keys to get a restart, and while it did restart, still no picture on the screen. Occasionally you can see white staticy lines, but mostly it is just dark. I've seen the suggestions to update software and back up data but that isn't possible as far as I can tell because I can't see anything on the screen - it is totally dark!

I purchased a new late 2013 27 inch iMac 3.4Ghz i5. The only thing I did after pulling it out of the box was restore Time Machine from my previous iMac. On startup the machine boots as expected, but gets interrupted by the screen turning a dark blue, and the apple logo turning bright red, for about a second or so, then boots as normal, and opens Mavericks. I've spoken to Applecare - they suggested I re-install Mavericks, which I did. The problem is still there. I've done a hardware diagnostics test - no problems. Though I wonder if it could be a faulty graphics card? As far as I'm aware there are no other issues with the iMac. The machine is under warranty but would love to solve this if possible.

Our 2011 iMac with SSD takes 2:15 (two minutes and fifteen seconds) to start up. Start up on a SSD should be faster. OS X version 10.7.4 and applications are on the SSD. Any suggestions for correcting this lack of speedy start up?

After connecting the imac to a new router the system hung completely up. After each input, e.g. opening preview or a browser, the coloured turning disc appeared and nothing happened anymore. Several restarts, also in safe mode, were unsuccessful. I could not switch to another user. Restart is only possible at all from installation disc but thereafter problem remains the same.

I have an iMac Intel that freezes after start up. It looks like everything is fine until I try to do something and then I just get the spinning colour wheel. I can't even open System Preferences without it locking up.

Did a Shift - Command-V and the black screen showing all the startup steps appeared and it all looked good except: AFL Alart Sockwed cant update and INIT Reboot transmit failed. All else looks good. I have tried this 3 times and never go past that point. Then the screen turns off white like it does when it starts normally before the apple appears and the last time the screen went black.
I have tried starting with just the Shift Key and computer starts up but not in safe mode. I have tired starting with the OS X disk and the C key and it will not recognize the disk.I used the #1 disk since the instructions are printed on the disk. Did not work so I tried disk 2 and I get a menu to start the OS or tools. If I click on either one the screen goes white and stays that way.
computer starts fine and provides a login window, and then the desktop screen with screen saver pictures in perfect color. As it goes through starting programs it starts the same programs that is had open when the computer originally crashed. Even when I close them, before it locks up again, and I am forced to restart the same programs open up to the same place. Its like the computer is frozen in one location and will not go beyond that point. Eventually the screen turns white and sometimes black and sometimes gray.
Tech support thought it was the video card, put a new one in but did not fix the problem and then said it was not that but that it was the monitor. I said that did not make sense since the monitor and desktop icons and pictures are beautiful and clear. They then said it was the inverter board on the monitor and Apple only replace the whole thing. I purchased an inverter board and replace it. No change. The tech person said that the computer works find without the monitor connected - I will see if that is correct next. Isn't that a more systimatic testing procedure then trying parts to see if it works? Oh I did do the complete long hardware test. Took about an hour and it passed! Isn't this strange?
