Hardware :: Using Canon Bluetooth Adapter?
Jun 26, 2006
I just picked up a Canon mp500 printer. It is Bluetooth enabled. Canon has a Bluetooth adapter (extra purchase) that plugs into the USB port. Is there any reason why a non-Canon Bluetooth adapter wont work?

I have finally gotten my PowerMac G5 to boot. It was given to me, so I did not know much about this machine. Once I got it working, I realized it is missing a bluetooth and airport module. I do not want to take the pricy route of getting internal Airport and internal Bluetooth. Can anybody point me to link for relatively cheap USB bluetooth and WiFi adapters that will work properly with 10.5.8 Leopard?

I just purchase a refurb 3.0 Ghz 8-core "Clovertown" Mac Pro off of Apple. However it does not come with either an aiport card or bluetooth card. Can anyone help assist me as to which card I would need for this? Does a standard USB bluetooth adapter work, and with the wireless card , this one from apple says its not compatible with the mac pro.

Buying both the Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter AND Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter is pretty expensive...
I was wondering if I purchase the Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter, will I be able to use a simple DVI to VGA adapter to use it as a VGA adapter also???
I'm not sure if the Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter only sends digital signal or digital & analog signal.

I have a bluetooth mouse and keyboard that I want to share between a PC and MBP via a DVI/USB KVM switch. I think I can do this by plugging a USB Bluetooth dongle into the KVM's USB input.
If I use the MBP's built-in bluetooth then when I switch from one computer to the other via the KVM, the keyboard and mouse will stay paired with the MBP; but if I disable the built-in hardware then the dongle can provide the bluetooth capability and be switched between the computers.

I've shied away from wireless keyboards in the past because I do alot of online baking and investment activities from my computer. I also love a clean workspace and a wireless keyboard could remove yet another wire from my desk. Do you consider wireless and/or bluetooth keyboards safe?

This isn't directly related to macbooks but if I want to use the bluetooth built into my computer to connect to my non bluetooth printer can I buy any USB bluetooth dongle to plug into the printer ( Kodak all in one 5300) or do I need some specific kind? All the ones I look at don't mention anything about printers just connection between computers and phones.

Hey guys..>I'm trying to set up my jabra bt200 bluetooth headset to work with my mac (osx 10.4.2, 15" powerbook 1.67ghz)...and I can get it to pair, but it won't stay connected for more than a split second. this is a problem i've seen a few people have, looking around on various forums and stuff, and i was trying various solutions when i decided to try doing a firmware upgrade on the internal bluetooth module. I downloaded the firmware updater (1.2), tried to run it and it came up with the following error:
"This computer does not have an Apple Bluetooth module installed. It cannot be updated by this application."
Why would my Powerbook not have an Apple Bluetooth module?!?!?! It's got bluetooth installed, it's internal, but looking at the system profile, it says it's the manufacturer is Cambridge Silicon Radio. So is this normal or what? Is the firmware upgrade even going to help me out in the end? Just to clarify...the powerbook came with bt installed factory...it's not something added by me!

So I finally install the latest updates from Apple, and reboot, and now my Bluetooth icon says "Bluetooth Unavailable". I have a 1.5Ghz PowerBook G4 with internal Bluetooth. I've been using BT since I got this thing in late 2004. Now the icon doesn't even show up in the control panel.
Has anyone else had this problem? I kind of need the BT to use my current setup. And I'm out of AppleCare time. (It's an OLD laptop.)

I have just bought a brand new iMac and this is my first ever mac. Downstairs we have a Windows XP PC that has a canon iP4500 printer connected to it. I am trying to connect to it on my mac over the wireless network in our house. The printer is set up to be shared and works over the network as we can print from our Windows Vista Laptop wirelessly. Our wireless network is set up over a Belkin router. On my mac I am managing to see files on the computer that the printer is connected to. On that PC I can see shared folders on my mac. When I go to print something on my mac i get the error "Error Number : 311 Printer is in use or an error has occured. If an error has occured eliminate the cause of the error." See below - Thumbnail 1] And on the windows pc in the print queue window the print job shows up as a "Remote Downlevel Document" with a file size of 0kb and nothing gets printed. I have visited canons website and tried all OS X drivers including the CUPS version and NON-CUPS version. I do not know what I am doing wrong in my printer setup.

Running SL 10.6.1 I have the following two printers: Canon i860 and the Canon S9000 connected to my computer via a USB bridge. I have downloaded the lastest drivers from Canon for both of the above mentioned printers. I have even switched (for the 860) to the driver that was supplied by Apple. Every time I print, the colors are super dark and the colors are also off. IE a bright ruby red will be maroon in color. The color is completely off. I have tried printing from Photoshop CS3, iPhoto 09 and also Canon Easy Photo Print. The colors will come out pretty much the same no matter what I am using. I have changed out my inks. Didn't work. I have tried pretty much every setting under the above programs and nothing is printing correctly. I have never had this problem. I don't know if it is Canon's driver issue under SL or if this is a printer issue for both of my printers. I have sent in a request to Canon but in the mean time, trying to figure this out. I have printed 50 pictures of the same picture trying to get the color down and nothing is working. I have searched google, made sure I had the correct ICC for the printers and printer paper. The only thing I haven't done, which I am just thought about as I am typing this is trying connecting the printer directly to my Mac Pro instead of going through the bridge. Does anybody else have any suggestions on what I should do? I have also been reading this thread:[URL:....] which lead to the following page. [URL:....]

I have purchased a Canon D480 for my office and I am trying to network the multifunction Canon through my Time Capsule. I have a MacBook Pro and the Canon D480 is unable to auto detect the IP address so that I can print. I downloaded the drivers from Canon's website, dropped the Canon folder from the disk that came with the Printer into my Mac HD, added the canon printer and now I get a error message stating that the "recipient not found". I tried to manually add the IP Address, subnet mask and the gateway address and that hasn't worked either. I'm at my wits end and I'm not a technical person. Is there anyone that can help me with this problem?

I've just moved from Windows 7 to a new iMac, and nearly everything has been smooth with the transfer - except my scanner.
I have a Canon LiDE 30 which works perfectly well with my Windows box but does nothing at all when I plug it into the iMac. I've not loaded anything like the Canon scanner toolbox, and I can't find anything relevant on a search apart fromn some pre-Lion stuff. I don't know enough yet about my iMac to fiddle

I am getting nowhere with installing the Canon LiDE 210 scanner software on my 2010 MBP. All I get when I try to scan is "insufficient memory". I can scan using Image Capture and with the trial VueScan software so the problem looks as if it is something to do with the Canon software or the way that it installs on the MBP.

I am using a Canon MP620 all in one with my MacPowerbook running Leopard 10.5.8. My Canon software is MP Navigator 1.05. The printer is agonizely slow. Sometimes after I press the print button it can take over a minute to even start. This not only occurs when I first start up but after the printer has been in use. This occurs when printing black and white text or pictures. I have been going through a hub and have not yet tried a direct connect which I will shortly. Anyone got any ideas or is this just a slow printer?

Problem: Canon MP560 printer won't print from 2008 Macbook Pro 10.6.5. It is recognized, I can print a sample page from the printer utility, but InDesign CS5, Acrobat Pro, Word 2011, text edit, Firefox, etc won't print to it. I'm not sure what caused this to start happening, as I've had this printer for almost a year. It is recognized on both USB and WIFI, yet neither connection works.

Canon advertises this printer as having ONLY Windows drivers, however there is a solution if you are interested in buying the printer (I bought one for around AUD150, delivered in Melbourne). As reported in Macosxhints here there is an OSX driver for the Canon LBP3000. Go to the linked Canon page (which is in Japanese) then scroll to near the bottom of the page for links to the driver (MXCAPT160). Download that and install it. Edit: The printer dialogue (when you attach it) is then in English. It doesn't offer all the options available in Windows (mainly output quality & economy modes) but is fine for straightforward printing to A4, letter, legal, A5, A6 and a couple of Japanese envelope sizes (Yougata-4 approximates DL).

I've got several Apple computers in a network. I'm using a Canon multifunctional PM600R for printing. It's connected on a iMac DV with a USB-cable. I'm using a Vigor wireless router. It was alle working perfectly. With my Powerbook I could use the printer wireless. Recently I bought a MacBook with Leopard. Up until today I can't print wireless. When I connect the Canon printer directly (USB), it will print. But that's it. I've downloaded the most recent software from the Canon website. Unfortunately, it won't work. In printer configuration I just can't select the printer because it doesn't show up in the window of the Canon IJ network tool.
