Hardware :: Use Windows Based Eyboards With Mac?
Jun 4, 2009
How do you use Windows based keyboards (like...the typing keyboard, not musical) if they have Mac compatibility. Take the Logitech Wave for example. It has both Windows and Mac compatibility- But it has a Control/Windows/Alt button, instead of Control/Option/Command buttons. Do they come with Command/Option keys, or do you just get really mad when you look at your keyboard (I know I would)?

I just switched from a Windows based system to a Mac Pro. How do I get Mac to recognize devices? I have plugged in several external hard drives to download photos, a card reader, and a printer. How do I install these devices? How do I install a printer? They obviously are not "plug and play". What am I doing wrong?
Info:
Mac Pro

First time Mac owner here! Purchased an iMac last week and love it. Have been a Windows guy all my life until now. Having trouble adding my Windows networked printer. So I downloaded the print driver from here and ran the installer. Then I connected to the networked printer I have and selected a driver from the drop down box, not sure if its the one that was installed or not. Tried printing a test page, no such luck.

I'm trying to turn an old Windows machine into a media server and file server, but not sure which Windows apps are Mac compatible. This is sort of hit and miss to post here, as it mainly involves looking for Windows applications, but the mac would be using them so it's sort of suitable.
I have setup a DLNA server for PS3 already which is working correctly. I've setup a UPNP server called Air Video for use with media for the iPhone and iPad.
I tried to setup an FTP server for use with files from both machines but the mac would not connect to it. It kept saying the login was wrong but it was right. I also setup a VNC server which the iphone using iTeleport could connect to but the Mac just would not connect.
So the main question is: Is there a FTP and VNC server for Windows which works 100% with a Mac as the client? After these two are working the server is completed.

Background: I have a 500GB WD HDD in a Dell XPS that has obviously windows on it and my itunes catalog. I want to take that 500GB drive, put it the enclosure, and do time machine backups.
1) Can I just put the drive in and do time machine backups to it without the need to delete it? (the drive probably has 350GB free)
2) Can I access the Windows content from my MBP?
3) Can I pull the itunes library off and transfer it to my MBP?
4) Any other suggestions about doing this switch?

I recently switched to Macs and purchased a Macbook Pro(which I love!). I'm still getting used to the OS, but I ran into a problem.
I was using a Windows computer before for my iPod (classic, not sure if that matters). I would like to transfer the songs I have from my windows iPod, onto my new Mac, but I'm not sure if that's possible(I think I may have read on Apple's website you can't switch from Mac to Windows but I'm not sure, but thats besides the point).
I don't really want to download a program to move my songs from the iPod onto the Mac.

Does anybody have A good password manager? I've thought of using Keychain but I'm not sure if it can be backed up to something other than my hard drive. Also, I need something for passwords other than web based, (bank accounts, credit cards, etc.). I'm A new Mac user and after 10 years of being a slave to Microsoft, I'm at a bit of A loss. I used to use Password Plus on my PC.

Thought I would take a couple minutes to summarize my thoughts on the Macbook Air after 3 months of use. For comparison, my prior machine was a Sony Vaio TR Series machine that I had for 4 years. I use the machine primarily for web-based applications, and Microsoft Office applications.Overall, I would buy again, but there are a few pros and cons I would point out. For most of what I do, it works fine. But if you are routinely using a lot of applications at one time, or working with large programs, I?m not sure it would be for you. If you buy, get the external DVD drive. You won?t use it that much, but it will be useful for installing software. While cool, the remote-disc feature makes these tasks more complicated than they need be, particularly when it?s only a $99 added cost.

I've read a few results on google and here on MacRumors, but all of them are old and point to systems running about 1GB or 2GB. I have 4GB, I have disabled Paging in Vista and it runs fine, plus it saves my SSD from killing itself.

I am thinking of buying a new mac mini that I will use for my studies when I go to sixth form in september, but I am worried that there might be some compatibility issues with windows based files, such as if I need to email someone something but they are one a windows pc, or if I need to open a file that was designed on a windows pc. Does anyone know of any that I should know about? This would be my first mac so I don't know the deal with them. Should I just stick with a windows pc?

I have my dead PowerBook's HDD in an external USB enclosure, and have set it to the boot disk on my Intel based iMac.
It loads up fine, but I cant access the System Preferences (architecture not supported it says). The Airport sees (and appears to be connected to) my wifi network, but neither Safari nor Firefox can connect to the internet.
