The existing account (on the Mac) is in my name and I don’t want another account of the same name (even with the usual 1 or 2 added).
Is there a way to completely delete the existing Mac account before I begin the transfer? And will this solve the problem?

View 2 Replies View RelatedHow do you use Windows based keyboards (like...the typing keyboard, not musical) if they have Mac compatibility. Take the Logitech Wave for example. It has both Windows and Mac compatibility- But it has a Control/Windows/Alt button, instead of Control/Option/Command buttons. Do they come with Command/Option keys, or do you just get really mad when you look at your keyboard (I know I would)?

I just switched from a Windows based system to a Mac Pro. How do I get Mac to recognize devices? I have plugged in several external hard drives to download photos, a card reader, and a printer. How do I install these devices? How do I install a printer? They obviously are not "plug and play". What am I doing wrong?

First time Mac owner here! Purchased an iMac last week and love it. Have been a Windows guy all my life until now. Having trouble adding my Windows networked printer. So I downloaded the print driver from here and ran the installer. Then I connected to the networked printer I have and selected a driver from the drop down box, not sure if its the one that was installed or not. Tried printing a test page, no such luck.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to turn an old Windows machine into a media server and file server, but not sure which Windows apps are Mac compatible. This is sort of hit and miss to post here, as it mainly involves looking for Windows applications, but the mac would be using them so it's sort of suitable.
I have setup a DLNA server for PS3 already which is working correctly. I've setup a UPNP server called Air Video for use with media for the iPhone and iPad.
I tried to setup an FTP server for use with files from both machines but the mac would not connect to it. It kept saying the login was wrong but it was right. I also setup a VNC server which the iphone using iTeleport could connect to but the Mac just would not connect.
So the main question is: Is there a FTP and VNC server for Windows which works 100% with a Mac as the client? After these two are working the server is completed.
Background: I have a 500GB WD HDD in a Dell XPS that has obviously windows on it and my itunes catalog. I want to take that 500GB drive, put it the enclosure, and do time machine backups.
1) Can I just put the drive in and do time machine backups to it without the need to delete it? (the drive probably has 350GB free)
2) Can I access the Windows content from my MBP?
3) Can I pull the itunes library off and transfer it to my MBP?
4) Any other suggestions about doing this switch?
I need to log into my work computer from home, since I purchased the IMac work say It wont work, there must be a way

I recently switched to Macs and purchased a Macbook Pro(which I love!). I'm still getting used to the OS, but I ran into a problem.
I was using a Windows computer before for my iPod (classic, not sure if that matters). I would like to transfer the songs I have from my windows iPod, onto my new Mac, but I'm not sure if that's possible(I think I may have read on Apple's website you can't switch from Mac to Windows but I'm not sure, but thats besides the point).
I don't really want to download a program to move my songs from the iPod onto the Mac.
besides parallel desktop and boot camp . Is there other ways to install a Windows-based game on Snow Leopard/MBP ?

View 6 Replies View RelatedThis Friday I am going to treat myself to a new MBP with the arrival of Snow Leopard. Are there any tips or pitfalls to be aware of when transferring data from old MB to new MBP? I plan on using Migration Assistant with firewire. SEEMS pretty straight forward. Need to transfer all applications and data. I still haven't entirely shaken my Windows past, so I am a bit nervous. Also, after the transfer is complete, what is the best/most secure way to wipe out the MB HD, reinstall OSX 10.5, and prepare for an ebay sale?
View 3 Replies View RelatedLike many, very recently I took the plunge: 27" iMac / Quad Core / i7 / 1TB HDD / 8GB RAM and I couldn't be happier! What is the best solution for transferring data from an old hard drive (formally inside a PowerMac G5) to the brand new iMac? My first attempt was with the 'Akasa Integral HDD External Enclosure' however this doesn't appear compatible with the file structure of Tiger, let alone Snow Leopard. The PowerMac G5 tower itself has a failed power supply, so connecting from Mac to Mac isn't an option either.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a unibody macbook model 5,1. I currently have it dual booted with windows-xp so I can play games(upgrading to 7 soon), and I want more harddrive space. I am debating between buying a new internal and simply upgrading or just getting external. Does anyone know if running games off of an external decreases performance? I was also wondering how hard it is to install a new harddrive and transfer all the data from the old one, also how do you transfer the data between harddrives?
