I have just purchased a copy of iWork and received the disks today. Previously I had downloaded the trial version from Apple and was wondering should I uninstall the trial version before I install the new disk based version.

I am in the market to buy a Mac Pro, and I have been reading through the forums and I couldn't find any straight forward information on how to install a 8800GT PC version graphics card on the Mac Pro. On the [URL] Store it says that for an upgrade 8800GT costs $349.99, damn expensive.. as the [URL] price is $119.99 after rebates. I am really hoping that I can opt out and just get the stock ATI Radeon 2600XT and then buy the PC 8800GT to put in with it. How do you install the PC version 8800GT?

I bought a Radeon 9800 Pro video card form my Power Mac G5 with dual processors. It comes furnished with a power splitter cord and says to plug it into the power supply or hard drive. I cannot find any place where this will plug in. The instructions that came with it are very vague and give no indication as to where this power source might actually be located.

I have a early 09 Mac Pro with the 4870 and I just received the GT 120 so I can run dual 24 ACD. When I install the GT 120 do I want to install it in the slot right above my 4870? Or 2 slots which would be slot 3.
If I install right above my 4870 then the GT120 would be right on top of the 4870 and doesn't seem like there would be much air flow getting above the card. Or does it not even matter which slot I install the GT120?

I'm upgrading to a Nvidia GeForce 8800GT graphics card on my 1st gen Mac Pro. I know how to install the card and that it needs aux power to work. The card has the aux power cable, but I'm not sure where to plug it in. There is a egg crate looking connector near the fan. Is this the aux power connector? There are two little prongs on the cable? Do these prong have to go into a specific side (i.e. positive and negative).

I installed the ATI Radeon x1900 card (512MB) in my 2006 Mac Pro. Can't change resolution- it's at 1200x800 on my 30 in cinema monitor and there is a warning that my video cable needs to be plugged in. There is no video cable, the card just plugs in.

I have a nice clamshell 300 mhz that worked fine, yesterday I tried to install an extreme airport card and now it doesn't start anymore. The power receptacle goes from green to orange in seconds and the computer appears dead, may be I pushed too much the card inside breaking something or may be I should have removed the battery (that is not working anyway), I don't know, what do you think I should do now? May be the logic board is gone?

is it really worth it to buy a new Mac Pro in the Apple store vs getting it at a reseller such as Amazon? I'd like to save as much as possible, so no tax and shipping saves me over $200 on the low end Mac Pro alone. My concern is getting the Airport extreme wifi card, but I know its not available in the Apple store and from what I understand, the only way to get it is either by bringing in the Mac Pro to the Apple store to buy the airport extreme card and have it installed by Apple, or by buying it from somewhere like ebay and doing a DIY.
I do not prefer the latter option if it goes against warranty, even though it may be easy. But does anyone know how much it would cost to have Apple install it, and if its same day installation? All in all, is it worth it to go through Apple with the Mac Pro, and pay the $200+ in additional tax? Actually, the airport extreme card is the ONLY CTO option that I want to add to the machine because everything else I'll add or upgrade later. So I can't help but feel like thats just so much money just to get the card. Of course, I'm planning all this for the 2010 Mac Pro, which is what I'm saving up for, but I'd like to get someone's opinion on this.

I just recently got an iBook G3. I found it in my towns recycling center and brought it home. The user on it does not have admin privileges. Seeing how it's old and is running 10.2 I was just going to install some sort of Linux on it. I went to go boot into a CD and it came up with a grey screen with a password prompt? I don't have the password. Does the same thing if I try to boot into single user mode.

I don't suppose any clever person knows if it's possible to access the BIOS setup screen on windows XP? I've been told it usually comes about by pressing/holding the "delete" key whilst windows is loading. However, I can't seem to get it to appear on the Macbook pro whilst I load. I need to disable hyperthreading in the BIOS to get something to work, and this seems to be the way to do it.

I have been beating my head against a wall for weeks trying to boot into Windows. So after weeks of searching for a solution and many attempts of re-installing both Windows and OSX. I am at the mercy of some of the very MAC wise folks here. So I will try and be as brief as I can.
I have a first gen Mac Pro that has worked great since I bought it in 2006. I have bought a Gforce 8800GT 1st gen upgrade video card. Bought it the first day it shipped, like a lot of other people. I followed the the thread that pushed apple for a upgrade for us early adopters. And am glad that apple listened to their customers and made a compatible ROM for the card.
So now to my problem and why I think it maybe a EFI issue. While waiting and reading about the then rumored video card upgrade, I tried to use a PC version of the 8800 GT, same card with a PC ROM. Well If I would of read more first I would of known that it would not work, and was really just taking a chance and thought that somewhere someone would make this work. Boy was I wrong. So after taking out the card and putting back in my 7300 stock card, I can no longer boot into windows. I get a blue screen stop error 0X000000CA (0X0000002, 0X89A0B0C0, 0X00000000, 0X00000000). Didn't turn up much searching for that error. So the symptom I have is as follows: power on holding down the option key, click on my windows disk partition on a separate NTFS formated HD, the computer try's to boot into windows, but after just a quick flash of Windows XP splash screen then straight to the blue screen. Now fast forward a week. apple releases the upgrade, took the PC cad back, ordered the MAC upgrade hopping this would fix the problem, It didn't. So I do a total re-install. I totaly reinstall OSX on a fresh HD, run all updates for 10.5.2. I put in another fresh drive in and run Boot camp to install a fresh copy of XP. The CD installs the startup files to RAM, then enters the setup partition/format screen. I chose new partition select NTFS full option, the HD formats. Now windows loads the install files to the hard drive and reboots. Now I am back to where I started. OSX works perfect XP will not even install new, much less boot into the old partition that is on another HD that I have pulled out right now, I also went back to the 7300, no change. I can hit F8 and get the advanced menu, if I select safe mode it freezes and goes to blue screen. If I move either of the cards to another slot I get the same result but the Mac Pro reboots in an endless cycle after a quick blue flash. In the 16x slot it just freezes on the blue screen.
So after searching for someone with the same problem it seems I cannot find a solution other then what I have read about EFI and that it is basically emulating a BIOS so windows can boot up on the Intel hardware. So am I even thinking in the right area? Have I some how corrupted the EFI firmware? Any suggestions? I bought the Mac Pro to run Pro Tools in windows along with Windows only apps. I use final cut pro in OSX, but I spend most of my time in Windows using the awesome power of the machine. I like OSX but it is not a total OS solution for me, I really like having a hybrid, and VM's and such in OSX will not work with Pro Tools.

Could someone please post the BIOS/ROM from the new Mac/PC ATI 3870 card?
You can write the BIOS file from within Windows/Bootcamp by using GPU-Z. If you do not want to post it here, please consider adding it to the VGA Bios Database at techPowerUp.

I guess curiosity got the best of me and I attempted to re-flash my working Sapphire 4870 with a different bios image provided here, and now when I boot I dont get any video. Just a black screen and no chime.
After this I tried putting in my old 7200gt to try and get it to boot so I could reflash back to the old firmware - but as long as the 4870 is installed I get no video at all. As soon as I take it out everything works fine.
Please advise me on what to do next.

I'm thinking about getting a Mac Pro tower from apple, and then buying two 500gb hard drives to place them in a raid 0 config. My question is, is setting up raid as easy as taking out the existing hard drive, placing both the new drives into the mac pro, and selecting raid 0 from OSX when I reinstall the operating system?? Or does the Mac have something similar to a Bios setup where I select that?

I have a problem with my iMac 24inch Graphic card. Actually I decided to install windows7 on my iMac 24inch early 2009. After the installation of its graphic card (Geforce GT120), the iMac turns off suddenly after a while. I tried to find the solution but I was unable to recognise it. A friend told me that the problem goes back to the bios(firmware) update and I have to update it, but as I'm currently using windows7 I have no idea how to do that.

I just finished up a fresh install of Windows 7 and downloaded and installed the NVidia driver from their site directly since the one in the Boot Camp files is pretty old and technically the Vista driver anyway.
But I still need the Brightness, Sound, etc key functionality. Is there a way to selectively install Boot Camp drivers? That's the only one I need. The wireless, chipset, video and everything else works just fine (and in some cases better) than the ones included in Apple's setup.
