Oct 24, 2009My home network setup is pretty weird and I am having problems connecting between my G4 with Leopard and my MBP with SL. Basically I have a static ip with a zyntex or something ADSL modem, then I have a switch and after the switch i got a 10Mbps Brack Firewall router and today I bought an Airport Express to get internet at places. I dont want to lay down cables. So anyway I noticed once I hooked up I can see my G4 but I cant connect to it. If I use a cable tho it work. Btw the airport is connected to the switch so is the G4, all the PCs are connected thru the brack router.

Nov 18, 2009I use the Apple Airport Extreme Base Station Dual Band as my main router. I use a new Apple Airport Express to extend the range of my AEBS and allow connectivity via Ethernet only. Problem: We want to be able to setup a NAS that will be accessable outside of our home network via the internet. We are looking at using a free software such as Free NAS. We are not able to figure out how to forward a port on the Airport Extreme to allow an FTP. Is this being complicated by the additional airport express? do we also have to change settings inside that router to allow this. We have scoured the internet for specific instructions on how to do this, but cannot get it resolved.

Mar 4, 2010I want to set up a home network but I'm utterly clueless in networking so I turn to you guys for help I believe I should have almost all the components to set one up but I need some pointers.
I'm the only person in the house who uses a Mac, also have two Windows 7 desktops (one connected via wifi and the other ethernet). I also have a printer and a 500GB hard drive (the 3.5" IDE ones) that I want to hook up to the network.
I guess my end goal is to have all three machines in a "LAN" and play nicely together (file sharing and stuff), print documents through the network and have a "central backup".
Currently I have a Linksys wireless router with SpeedBooster (model WRT54GS), it doesn't have any USB i/o so I guess I will need a router with USB? If I don't get a router with USB then will I be able to print from my MacBook if the printer is plugged to another desktop? Perhaps a TimeCapsule?

Dec 4, 2009I am trying to use Home Sharing between my iMac and a Windows Laptop. I have setup home sharing on each computer, but for some reason i can only see shared icon in my iMac iTunes library. On my Windows Latoptop the shared icon is not visible in the left hand pane. I have tried Authorising both computers, deauthorising both computers. Turning on, then off home sharing on each computer. I can still only see my laptops library on my IMac. When I really want to see my iMac's library on my laptop, as I am using my laptop for music at a party. Has anybody had problems when tying to use Home Sharing between a Windows Computer and a Mac?

Windows On Mac :: Setup To Accept All Data Through Network Card
Mar 25, 2009I've got a Satallite dish system and two routers. I have router B plugged into Router A. Router b Everything is disabled, DNS, Gateway, **** like that, including DHCP. Router A has DHCP enabled, MAC Address Filtering, and DNS and Gateways for the dish system entered. I'm running this setup for my little out post in Iraq. The dish is plugged into the "uplink" port in back of the router, Both Linksys, btw. So I've got 30 people or so on this router, and some one, i fear is passing alot of crap and hogging all the network bandwidth. I suspect SpyWare/Adware of Virus problem on one or two machines. Is there anyway to setup my Mac or a Windows Machine to accept all the data through a network card, and then pass that data up to the satallite dish? I just need to see who's sending all this data and the Linksys logs are crap.

May 30, 2010OK so I just upgraded my Mac to Office 2011, which includes Remote Desktop Connection (RDP). I know that I cannot connect TO a Windows Vista Home Premium computer from the Mac, but according to the MS help files, I can connect FROM Vista Home Premium to the Mac.
I'm running both computers on the same wireless network, yet the Vista machine cannot connect to the Mac....can't even ping the Mac IP, as a matter of fact. The IPv4 addresses that show are the router IPs (from ipconfig), and they of course begin 192.168.xxx.xxx.
OS X V10.7 Lion :: Setup Network Canon Ip4300 On It?
Apr 18, 2012I have a Macbook Air running Lion. I have been struggling to set up a network printer that has worked for years on Windows and Linux clients (I think it worked with Snow Leopard as well). The set up is a Silex print server C-6200U+ v 2.3.1 with a Canon ip4300 connected to it's USB port. The driver is version 10.51.2.0 and CUPS is version1.5.1. All the latest revs. Currently other clients on the network print using LPR to queue 'lp' on a TCP/IP port. In Windows 7 this is all configurable though the gui with a mouse so I'm not doing anything clever. I have tried a number of iterations of set up on the Mac using CUPS Admin interface and also the System Preferences route. The closest to success has been to set it up as LPD protocol on a fixed ip address with queue 'lp', from this configuration I can successfully print a test page from CUPS or 'Print and Scan'. However when it comes to a 'real' print job from Preview or Word or Adobe, nothing much happens. The print queue says it is 'copying the Print Data' or similar but it just hangs indefinitely.Â

We have iCloud but do not want to put some of our docs on there for concern over security (any informed pushback on that welcome by the way). I have a MacBook Air with one account (say C), where C is Admin.
Both iMac(A) and Macbook Air(C) share the same iCloud userID, but iMac(B) does not.Â
By using the built in screensharing service of Mountain Lion (not Apple Remote Login), can I use "Back to my Mac" to remotely log in iMac(A) from Macbook Air(C) when outside of my home network? In particular, can I "log in" iMac(A) when it's not already logged in on my iMac or iMac(B) is using the machine?

Jun 20, 2012The program Mail works great for me at home. But, when I take my laptop to my office, or I use it at a coffee shop, or wherever, I can't send emails. It'll access the server and get emails, but I can't send them. My mac email is IMAP, rather than POP, if that makes a difference. Is this something that I should be able to do, or does Mail need to be hooked up to my home network to work properly?

Jan 10, 2010I have an Intel iMac and Macbook connecting just fine to my netgear router. Airport signals are great throughout the house. A friend dropped off an old PowerMac G4 (Quicksilver) which I placed down the hall in my daughter's room.
It didn't have an airport card, so I installed an aftermarket one. The airport setup utility continually kicks out my login password to my home network saying it's incorrect (am sure it's right) and there is no signal indication in the finder.
iMac is running Leopard 10.5.x
Macbook is 10.4.x
G4 is 10.2

Hardware :: Converting Existing DSL-based Airport Wireless Network To Cable Modem?
Feb 17, 2009I currently have a DSL internet connection (static IP if that matters), and my iMac is connected to the network via an Airport Extreme, but am switching to Comcast Cable for better speed/price.
I picked up the self-install kit from Comcast yesterday and find the included instructions pretty much worthless.
Due to where cable outlets are located, I hope to install the new cable modem in a different room than my computer. However, will I first need to have the computer hard-wired to the Airport to configure the connection? Or should I be able to configure it wirelessly?
If wirelessly, should it be as easy as turning off the computer and Airport, connecting coax from the wall to cable modem, ethernet cable to the Airport, and then powering everything on? Will the iMac instantly recognize the new connection and walk me through configuration?
I am going from a static IP w/ the DSL to, I assume, a dynamic IP with the Cable. Does this further complicate the install?

But I want this account to have limited access to my LAN, similar to how the stovepiped "Guest Network" works with Airport Extremes. I don't see any way to assign specific network accounts specific IP ranges outside the normal, say, 10.0.1/24. Is there even any way to assign a specific account something in the range,say, 10.0.2/24? Any way to further limit network access for Lion Server VPN sessions?
