Software :: Password Manager Other Than Web Based?

Nov 19, 2007

Does anybody have A good password manager? I've thought of using Keychain but I'm not sure if it can be backed up to something other than my hard drive. Also, I need something for passwords other than web based, (bank accounts, credit cards, etc.). I'm A new Mac user and after 10 years of being a slave to Microsoft, I'm at a bit of A loss. I used to use Password Plus on my PC.

Applications :: Best Password Manager For OS X?

Jul 29, 2005

Anybody have an opinion as to a good password manager for osx? I'm looking for something simple that'll keep track of various accounts and passwords for me. I've been doing it with pen and paper for a while but there must be something out there - maybe even a widget? I guess I'd like it to have some degree of security (a password for the password manager - how do I remember that one) so maybe a widget doesn't work. A small app then - preferably freeware.

Can you guys recommend a decent, free password manager? I was a big KeePass fan when I used Windows, however KeePassX doesn't have auto type on OSX. I tried 1Password, but I didn't like it very much and I definitely would not pay $39.99 for it.

First time poster who just recently made the switch from pc to my new macbook pro and loving it though i'm still learning the ropes so be gentle with me

Back in my windows days i used a choice little program called keePass to handle all my logins/passwords/serial keys etc etc not so much as to automatically fill them in for me but just as a record. Now that i've made the switch i've been having to keep a pretty messy rtf document until a better solution comes along. Any applications come to mind?

Applications :: Password Manager With Database (Own Archive)

I was wondering if you all know of any program, thats a password manager. Well basically I wish to have a database, in which I have my own archive and store passwords. But to enter my archive, I want to enter a password, then I can access the whole list of sites & passwords I've stored. Whats the best app. I was thinking of making my own small database like with Microsoft Access.

Applications :: Password Manager Integration With Firefox

Feb 13, 2010

I'm looking for something more comprehensive than FF's inbuilt password. However, I was also hoping that the password manager would integrate nicely with Firefox. Right now, I'm looking at KeePassX and 1password. KeePassX is exactly what I want (secure, open source, etc) but I can't seem to figure out a way to integrate it seamlessly with FF- does anyone know how? As for 1password, I have difficulty trusting my password with it as it's close source and I'm paranoid that the commercial developer who coded it might have left a backdoor somewhere in the program (I know the probabilities of that are trivial, but as I said, I'm paranoid). So, are there any better alternatives out there?

Software :: Firefox And Password Manager Pop Up For New Site

Dec 12, 2008

Love this feature (because I'm all about convenience). But the first time I logged on to a specific new site, password manager popped up asking if I wanted it to remember my log on information. Instead of hitting "remember", I accidentally hit "never remember". It's driving me nuts because its the one site I visit every day, and can't figure out how to un-do it other than re-register under a new name, which would be too much of a hassle since it's my stock brokerage site.

OS X Server :: Changing Administrator Password / Unable To Authenticate On Netinfo Manager

Jan 9, 2007

I started this thread on another forum. Im coming here because theyve been less with forthcoming with help or things to attempt. See the related link.I've been handed control of a Mac lab at my school. The former admin was supposed to document, but he didn't. To lock this slack-tastic wonder out of my network I wanted to change the password on my local Panther server.

Being the Unix geek that I am, I SSH'd to the server, logged in as administrator and called 'passwd' to change my password. Now Workgroup Manager doesn't work.

It was suggested that I attempt to edit the NetInfo database directly. I tried via the 'Netinfo Manager', but that didn't do anything helpful. Now I can't authenticate on the 'Netinfo Manager' on the server and I still can't become fully authenticated with the 'Workgroup Manager' on my own account. I am able to authenticate on the server directly, with the GUI and console. I'm able to install software, use 'sudo', etc.

I tired to use the 'pwpolicy' command since 'administrator' authenticates with the PasswordService, but I got an odd error: Code: pwpolicy -a administrator -u administrator -setpassword apple

*** Error: dsDoDirNodeAuth failed with error = -14090
Method = dsAuthMethodStandard:dsAuthSetPasswd

I can't find a reference to that error code anywhere. I have verified that I can authenticate correctly with 'pwpolicy'.

I tried to modify the password with the install discs, but I didn't see any simple tools for changing the password when browsing the CDs. I assume I have to boot off them in order to change the password, but when I restarted the server with the OSX install disc inserted it did not boot off the disc. Is there an easy way to allow for booting off the disc on a Mac platform? I'm only familiar with the PC configuration methods.

Software :: Supplying Password To "open" Without GUI Based Dialog Box?

Jun 13, 2008

I have created an encrypted disk image that I want to open the command line, using the open program. I issue the open Image.dmg command, at which time a dialog box pops up on the screen, prompting me for the encryption password. However, what I'd like to do is issue the password without a GUI-based password dialog. Is this possible? If so, how? The reason I want to do this is because I ssh into my Mac from a remote Linux box, and I can only run command-line utilities. I'd like to open the volume from within this remote connection.

OS X :: Closing A WD Button Manager Program?

Apr 9, 2010

I have a Macbook that has been running slow for the last 2 days.

I scouted the net and ended up finding out I should check my Activity Monitor, which I did. There is a "WD Button Manager" that will flash up for a second and then disappear . It says that it is using 96% of my CPU.

(Does this explain why my mac is slow? Even as I type this there is a delay for a second and then the words appear!)

I think its for a Western Digital external HD I had a while back but I never use now.

So i tried to find the program and did, I tried to drop it in the trash and delete it but it gives me the message, cant trash because it is open.

But I cant open it when I click on the icon, it opens omnioutliner? (no idea what this program does!)
