Is there any software that I could install on my work computer and my Mac so when I go home I could remotely access my PC through my Mac easily and efficiently? The software that my job uses is PC only so I was wondering if I could do the same thing with software that works with both windows and the Mac.

I'm sure this has been asked before so please forgive me. I have found arguments that say just use Migration assistant to some saying I need to cherry-pick certain items.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'll be moving away for university in a month but will occasionally need to access my family PC at home (remotely) to transfer files to my Mac and manage those files (mainly deleting them afterwards). I've been doing some research and have found remote desktop access applications like LogMeIn and VNC freeware, and I seem to gather that VPN networks can somehow accomplish what I'm trying to do here. Problem is, the easy-to-use apps like LogMeIn are awfully expensive for what they do, and I'm looking for something free or relatively cheap that can handle my problem properly. But the freeware VNC clients are extremely confusing to me, and I'm having trouble understanding the concept of VPNs, how they work and how they can possibly solve my problem here.

by the way i also have a firewire cable. i did connect the firewire cable to my xp laptop but the mac cant see it. something on xp came up saying it should install a software but couldnt find it when looking up on the net..
i would prefer wireless connection but if firewire is easier and much faster then yeah firewire is ok.
I have about 80GB at home, on my Windows machine. I use an Airport Extreme router. Is there anyway for me to access this library remotely on my MBA so that I don't have to have all the music cluttering up this poor little SSD hard drive?
View 15 Replies View RelatedIs there an easy way to access my iMac (that is at home), while I am on my PC while at work? Specifically, I want to be able to go to certain internet sites via my iMac's browser. I am a Corporate recruiter, and often need to access Facebook to get information on potential candidates. My company has, however, blocked facebook from being accessible. Therefore I am often taking candidate names home to check out. It would be so much easier if facebook were allowed at work, however, our IT group doesn't want everyone in the company to be able to access it (and a number of other sites - games, dating sites, etc). Anyhow, wondering if I can remotely access my IMac, then use the browser.

I have a .mac/mobileme account, so all of my messages and contacts are syncing, but I really want to have my apps (and their data) along with my music and videos restored - especially before my long flight home.
Ok, this may sound stupid, so here goes. I have always worked for companies that had all of our files on a server. Because of this server I was able to work from home on many occasions. I now have my own design company and want to set up a server in my home that I can access remotely from my office. I don't have the faintest idea where to start. I have purchased the mac mini server (I want a dedicated computer for the server) but what's next? I have a domain name, web hosting and dedicated IP. What else do I need to get to set this up? I am pretty good with computers, I just don't have a clue what I need to make this happen.

Up until Friday, I had a Linux server in my office that among other things, served as a remote login using NXServer. The thing I liked best about NXServer was that all of the data was sent over ssh on port 22. This meant that along with the security of ssh, I also only had to open a single port. The Linux server has been taken offline and everything moved to a MacPro.
The only thing I don't have setup is a way to remotely login to my network. I know I can still log in with ssh but I would like to be able to run a GUI when I log in. What's out there that will allow me to do this? I know about VNC and have used it in the past but it lacks the single secure port option (I believe).
I'm having problems screen sharing between an iMac running Snow Leopard and a G4 iBook running Tiger. I have been trying to remotely screen share the iMac from the iBook. I enabled screen sharing on the iMac, and set a password for VNC. Then I tried two different clients on the iBook - Chicken of the VNC, and JollysFastVNC. Both exhibit the same symptoms: they claim the password for vnc access is incorrect, but I KNOW the password is correct, and I have tried several different ones.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have my dead PowerBook's HDD in an external USB enclosure, and have set it to the boot disk on my Intel based iMac.
It loads up fine, but I cant access the System Preferences (architecture not supported it says). The Airport sees (and appears to be connected to) my wifi network, but neither Safari nor Firefox can connect to the internet.
I currently have a DSL internet connection (static IP if that matters), and my iMac is connected to the network via an Airport Extreme, but am switching to Comcast Cable for better speed/price.
I picked up the self-install kit from Comcast yesterday and find the included instructions pretty much worthless.
Due to where cable outlets are located, I hope to install the new cable modem in a different room than my computer. However, will I first need to have the computer hard-wired to the Airport to configure the connection? Or should I be able to configure it wirelessly?
If wirelessly, should it be as easy as turning off the computer and Airport, connecting coax from the wall to cable modem, ethernet cable to the Airport, and then powering everything on? Will the iMac instantly recognize the new connection and walk me through configuration?
I am going from a static IP w/ the DSL to, I assume, a dynamic IP with the Cable. Does this further complicate the install?
My neighbor has an IMac with OS 10.4.11 installed. When I open System Preferences and select the Network icon, the Network window comes up but it is overlayed with a message that states: "Your network settings have been changed by another application." When I click OK, this same overlaid window comes back.
The only way I can get out of System Preferences at this point is to do a Force Quit. In other words, because this overlaid window appears, I am unable to access the Network window to look at TCP/IP settings, make changes, etc.
Next I went into System/Library/Preference Panes/Network.prefPane(more info) to look at the application that appeared in the "Open with" field. It stated "System Preference." I replaced this with a new "System Preferences from the Applications Folder, but the same thing happened - even after I rebooted the computer.
Please let me know how to solve this problem so I can access the Network System Preferences properly.
Thank you.
I've bought a new mac mini (2.53ghz model) and used these instructions to put windows 7 64 bit on:half way down the page it give you a link on putting 64bit on non support macs. Why doesn't the new mac mini support 64bit win 7??!I usually remotely access the mini from my laptop. How can I remotely restart from osx into win 7? I've gone to startup disks but win 7 isn't there even though BOOTCAMP is on my desktop.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have had Windows 7 installed on my 2010 iMac for a while now. I installed all the drivers from the snow leopard disk, everything is up to date including the device drivers, and yet I am having wireless internet connectivity problems. Everytime windows tries to connect to the internet, it says that there is no internet access and that it is identifying the network. I have tried resetting my router, turning my airport on and off and rebooting my computer, all of which have not worked.
