Hardware :: How To Display A Full Featured Print Dialog Box
Dec 13, 2008
I just purchased a new Canon Inkjet printer and like my old Epson, the print dialog box is very limited. My only options are to change paper size or landscape mode. I'm unable to choose the number of pages, copies or print quality, etc.
How do I get a full featured print dialog box to display?
As an aside, in the printer/fax prefs I ink supply levels are unavailable as well.
Using OS X Mail, is there anyway to print an email without having to see the print dialog box? On Windows, Outlook has a "quick print" icon that you can put on the toolbar that does just that. I was just wondering if it was possible to do in OS X.
Is there a possibility, to have more print options in the OS X print dialog? Specifically, I want to change quickly the layout of E-Mails, I print (font size bigger, smaller, rewrap mail, move attachments, so they print properly on one sheet instead of spreading on 4 sheets, etc.). I was a heavy user of fineprint for Windows back then and loved especially the implemented big print preview.
I open System Prefs and click 'Print & Fax'. I click + to add a printer. The dialog box opens for a few seconds and then closes. Just that window. I cannot add a printer at all or even print anything for that matter. I ran Printer Therapy and it finds nothing wrong. Same with TechTool Pro. Nothing seems to be wrong except this.
Bought Epson CX3650 two months ago; have been printing only letters (i.e. black) which has run out, but so have all the other colours (can't understand why as I've printed next to nothing in colour). Ordered a new black cartridge but wouldn't print as other inks (which I don't need) have run out. Have looked for a "Black Only" option in the print dialog box but can't find it. Anyone know a quick fix that avoids buying 4 colour inks every time? Running Mac System 10.3.9.
I am running MS Office for Mac 2008 under OS X 10.6.3...
I do not get a printer dialog box when I print my slides so I do not get the chance to print speaker notes. Also, when running Word, I go directly to print bypassing the printer dialog box in Word.
I have repaired permissions, updated all my software (OS X, MS Office), rebooted.
I'm not sure how it happened, but suddenly I have lost the ability to change some settings in print dialog boxes.
In any print dialog box, the top part of the window allows you to select which printer, any presets, the number of copies, whether or not you want them collated, and which pages.
Below that is a drop-down box that typically displays the application name. If you select the triangle in this drop-down box, some other options appear: Layout, Color Options, Paper Handling, Cover Page and Scheduler. All of these options work fine.
Below, these however, are another set of options that are all, I assume, provided by the print driver. On my HP Photosmart C7200, the available options are: Two-Sided Printing, Paper Type/Quality, Borderless Printing, HP Real Life Technologies, and Printer Driver Information.
If I choose any of these options that appear in the lower part of this drop-down menu, nothing appears. The application name remains in the drop-down box. In other words, I have lost the ability to choose two-sided printing, change the paper type or print quality, cor hoose borderless printing.
I would like to run a script when a user selects log out from the apple drop down to ask the user if they backed up their data before it allows them to log out. I created a script that prompts you and then brings you to the logout screen but do not know how to get it to run, or something similar to run, when you select log out. Obviously, I do not want it to run when the user has already logged out. The other option I see that could work would be to change the message, "are you sure you want to quit all applications and log out now?" which I cannot figure out how to do.
When printing, all of my old, discarded printers are in the list brought up by the dialog box. They are gray, but still, it's an extensive list. How can I remove them?
When I go to the Help menu in Safari 4 and click on Safari Help, the links for Navigate and Search, Privacy and Security, Saving Time and Solving Problems don't open. Neither do the links under Featured Topics. This never happened in Safari 4. This is not the beta version, but the newest version. I am running Leopard 10.5.7 and have 2 gigs of memory and 1.83 GHz Intel Core Duo on a MacBook.
I'm getting a high resolution, and it looks alright, but it's not fully using the widescreen. That's "aspect" right? Well anyway, I also have a 19" display and it works perfectly. My Xbox, cable box and movies all use the full widescreen on the Acer, but the Macbook with the super amazing Mini DisplayPort doesn't even use the full resolution. What's with that? I thought the reason they had this new port and a $30 adapter was for higher resolutions!
The title says it all really... Quite a simple problem that I can't find any answer to!
I've hooked up my 30" Apple Cinema Display to the new iMac 27" and the highest resolution I'm getting as an option is 1280x800... The iMac correctly detects the ACD as a Cinema HD display but limits my resolution. Why oh why?!
I just purchased a Mac Mini and am using a DVI to HDMI cable to connect it to my 42" Sony KDF-E42A10. I am unable to achieve full-screen resolution and downloaded SwitchResX to manually adjust the display. Does anyone know the timing parameters for the Sony or how to achieve full-screen resoltuion?
I'm making an applescript app for my company, and had a question. The functionality of the app is working great, but there is a certain step which can take up to several minutes. This can give the user the feeling that nothing is happening and things are stuck. Is there a possibility to display a dialog as long as the action (shell script) is running?Something along the lines of "Now performing action X.
I'm trying to print from a full-size, 30x42 pdf of an AutoCAD file. I only want to print an 8 1/2 x 11 portion, in scale. How do I select the window and print in scale on my 8 1/2 x 11 printer (Brother MFC-9340CDW)?
I have recently upgraded from Snow Leopard to Mavericks and am now having problem with my hp 4500 office jet printer. The print icon tends to stay on the dock after the print job is done and then mess up the print queue. Even worse if I forget to cancel it manually then when I put the computer on 'sleep' the printer starts up again and the whole job is rerun unless I get to cancel it quickly on the printer! Â
It does not always do this (the print icon disappearing as it should do), but for 90% of the time it does.Â
I own an Apple 27" Core i7 iMac. I just bought a Dell 3008WFP (30" LCD Display) [URL]. It has full size display port, hdmi, vga and dvi. As you know though it's a 30" so it needs "dual-link" DVI from whatever is driving pixels to it. So the iMac, to my knowledge only has Mini Display Port, right? How do I get the iMac to push the 30" at full resolution?
I have a Unibody MacBook Pro from the Late 2009 line.
When connected to a TV, it used to be able to make the TV 1920x1080 but for some reason it won't do that anymore. It's not on mirrored, and I can't think of anything I've done to mess this feature up. Some people are saying that MacBooks can only support full res on externals by putting the computer to sleep, but I HAVE done full res before with both screens awake.
Any ideas on how to fix this would be much appreciated, it's driving me insane!
UPDATE : I think the port on my MacBook may be slightly damaged. A small wiggle of the cable makes the screen go black. I then have to fiddle with the Display Preferences or replug it. Should I call Apple or something?
I got home today, turned on my computer while connected to an external monitor and all of a sudden, my MBP (13", late 2011) won't use the whole display. Instead the screen is squashed and i got two black gaps on either side of the monitor. The resolution is set to 1920*1080 as always, so that isn't the problem. Also, when I set the monitor to all other resolutions, it stretches all the way out, it's only on 1080 it doesn't work even though 1920*1080 should fill out the whole screen, while some of the other resolutions shouldn't. I have the displays set to extend, so the MBP's display is set to 1280*800 as usually, and everything functions perfectly on both displays except for the gaps.
I've tried closing the lid and playing around with the external monitor itself, but I get the same results. I've also reset the PRAM and SMC; same thing.I can also add that on the Windows part (Boot Camp installed) it just plain won't recognize the external display at all. Everything worked this morning...Â
I have a strange problem in fullscreen mode, on my Macbook pro 15".I LOVE fullscreen, and infact the next macbook I will get is the 11" air because of its size and because full screen is so nice to work with.Suddenly the menubar will not display it self when I move the mouse to the top of the screen. The only way I can access the menu bar is by exiting full screen (ctrl + Cmd + F) and the toggel it back on after I have used the menubar .This actually makes fullscreen mode useless and its driving me nuts, because this should not happen on Apple software. I would expect these sorts of behaviour on windows but not in osx.
It is pretty good as a secondary display But is it possible to watch hulu using safari on the secondary isplay full screen. (hulu)And use my MacBook Pro to do other things at the same time? This is giving me trouble. Also anybody have any luck using pip with a samsung lcd tv?
I have a Macbook Pro I bought new in June 2008 (Not Uni-body). It's a 15 inch with the standard options. I want to make a desktop setup on a budget and I'm wondering if my MBP will fill up this display at the complete resolution (1920 x 1080) and if it will function completely with the peripherals on the monitor. [URL]. Here is the display I'm looking at. Seems like a good deal, but I haven't done a lot of shopping around. I don't do graphic design and as I said, I'm on a budget, so the Apple displays are out of the question.
For some reason VLC starts very slowly and lags when playing some H264 in mkv anime. So I turn to Mplayer. Is there a way to make it full screen. I tried every button but none seems to work.
I noticed that after upgrading to Lion quicktime player won't play movies full screen on my second display. Under Snow Leopard if the quicktime window was on the second display and you hit full screen it would fill the display is was on. Now the video slides to the main display and then goes full screen. There doesn't seem to be any way to change that behavior. There are no preferences. Â
The only work around is to move the menu bar in the display preferences to the second menu, so that the second monitor becomes the main one.Â
Info: MacBook Pro 17in 2.16, Mac OS X (10.4.7), 2gb ram 10.4.8
I have a Samsung 2033SW hooked up to my mac and whenever I play video full-screen on on screen (either the laptop or the samsung), the other screen blacks out. This happens whether I use VLC, RealPlayer or Quicktime. How do I set it up so that I can play full-screen video on one and still be able to use the other screen for other stuff?
I'm pretty sure it's not because there aren't enough resources because I can still play "fit-to-screen" on one screen and still have access to the other screen.
Display profile changes-the color correctness- changes whenever I enter fullscreen mode in-game, in dvd player, etc. Absolutely spontaneously. When I exit fullscreen it recovers to regular display profile. My regular display profile is "color LCD", and it changes to .
I have everything connected and working to display my MBP to my Sony Bravia HDTV. I am using the TV as a second display. When I choose full screen for my iTunes movie, it goes black. The iTunes movie plays in reduced screen. Does anyone have a solution how I can play full screen?
I am trying to play a couple of games on my mac mini 2010 and when they play full screen I only get 4:3 display and I cant get it to stretch to widescreen. I have tried all resolutions but the game still goes to 4:3 when I select fullscreen. I have my Mini connected to a 40" tv via HDMI.
I upgraded to Lion about a month ago. I didn't want to, but I had to to switch to iCloud which was the only way I could retain our family's six-year-old @mac.com and @me.com email addresses.Â
After working through a half dozen issues, everything seemed to finally be working smoothly. Just yesterday, though, Mac Mail stopped being able to open my iCloud email. It shows the sender, subject and the first couple lines of text in the listing of emails in the column to the left, but when I click on one or double click on one to view the entire message, I get "Loading" and a never-ending spinning wheel. Â
I have restarted everything, updated software, and repaired disk permissions. I don't want to delete the iCloud account and reinstall it because I have a couple hundred emails stored in folders residing on my machine.Â
My iCloud email works fine with my iPhone, iPad and on iCloud.com. I just can uses Mac Mail. But I access a half dozen other non-Apple email accounts-- POP and IMAP. Ironically, all the non-Apple email accounts work fine on Apple's Mac Mail.Â
