Software :: Links For Featured Topics Not Work In Safari 4
Jun 20, 2009
When I go to the Help menu in Safari 4 and click on Safari Help, the links for Navigate and Search, Privacy and Security, Saving Time and Solving Problems don't open. Neither do the links under Featured Topics. This never happened in Safari 4. This is not the beta version, but the newest version. I am running Leopard 10.5.7 and have 2 gigs of memory and 1.83 GHz Intel Core Duo on a MacBook.

Since I upgraded to SL and Safari 4, when I click on a download link a new window opens up with nothing in it and the download does start. I have to right click and hit Download file.

We use NetSuite which is a cloud based SAS enterprise solution. We spend about 90% of our computing time using this web page. It stopped working with Safari today. I don't think it is an incompatibility with Safari 5.1.4 because the problem didn't start until 3 or 4 days after I installed Safari 5.1.4 plus it still works OK on my home computer that also uses Safari 5.1.4.Â
NetSuite uses a lot of SOAP and Java. I click on drop-down menus in NetSuite and they typically have words with the associated icon to the left of each word.Today it has the words, but the little file type icons are missing. I click any of the links in the pull-downs and get a NetSuite "page not found" web page.Â
The same thing happens on all drop-down lists in netSuite. They're all missing their little icons to the left of the words and the links won't work.I tried everything. I deactivated all Safari add-ons and extensions. I deleted Safari prefs. I reset Safari. I rebooted and zapped the p-ram in the mac. Nothing seems to fix the issue. I posted the issue in the NetSuite User's Group and it seems to be a problem specific to my computer.Â

I think what I'm talking about are javascript links...when you go to, for example, [URL] I'm talking about the links in the box on the right labeled "Most Watched Video." None of the links IN THAT BOX work for me. By "work" of course I mean go anywhere or do anything. It's as if I'm clicking in an area of a page without links.
This happens for me in other sites with similar links. What gives?!
I've checked Firefox and am running the latest version of javascript. I'm also running the latest version of Firefox 3.6.8. I'm on a Mac OSX 10.4.11 - old system software, I realize, but I simply haven't been able to afford moving beyond this (plus my Mac is a Macbook, 2GB RAM, 80GB HD - old unit).

Surely I'm not the only die hard sports fan on here who can't live without constant updates from RealGm. But am I the only one that uses safari to view it? (or tries to?).
I searched but couldn't find any topics on this, but I can't for the life of me get safari to properly open forum topics from real gm. It will work 1 out of 7 times perfectly, the others not until I refresh and refresh (and even still it doesn't load all the page).
understand as it works perfectly on Chrome and FF.

I just purchased a new Canon Inkjet printer and like my old Epson, the print dialog box is very limited. My only options are to change paper size or landscape mode. I'm unable to choose the number of pages, copies or print quality, etc.
How do I get a full featured print dialog box to display?
As an aside, in the printer/fax prefs I ink supply levels are unavailable as well.

I have two websites. The old one is DogToysAndTreats.com. The new one is FunStuffForDogs.com. I need to change the home page graphic on both of them to point to my shopping cart pages. I have done this and published the changes on both sites. It works on my Mac but not on my PC.url...the graphic at the top with the bulldogs is supposed to link to url....Same thing on url... It works on my Mac in both Safari and Chrome. On my PC, it doesn't work on IE, Safari or Firefox. (BTW, I haven't worked on any of the other links until I can figure out how to do it properly.)

I use MBP Snow Leopard 10.6.2 and use both Safari 4.0.4 and Chrome for browsing, and it is increasingly happening (on both browsers) that I need to click outside the active window (i.e. go to the menu bar and click on it, anywhere on it, to be able to press a link or a new tab buttons inside the open window). If I don't do that the active window buttons or links do not work, they depress or shade or do whatever, but do not actually do the function.

I can't seem to find the right preference order to make it so when I click on a link that should open a new tab, it instead keeps opening up a new window. I have the first and third option checked in the tabs preference but it doesn't seem to matter. I might be delirious from playing with leopard all day/night, but I just want to figure this one last option out before bed. I Would like to open links in new tab WITHOUT having to hold down the command key.

I was using Sarari 5.1.4 to send Email links, but after installing Google Chrome, Chrome asked me if I would like to send Email links using Chrome, I selected YES since I thought it would allow me to send Email links when using Chrome. Now, I cannot send Email links using Safari. I uninstalled Chrome, but I still cannot send Email links through Safari.
I get the following message when trying to send Email through Safari:
An Email message cannot be created to send the link becasue Safari can't find an Email application. You can use the Mail application included with Mac OS X to send email. To do so, you might need to install Mail using the Mac OS X Install discs. I tried the following without any luck:
In a Finder window select your home folder in the Sidebar on the left. Open the Library folder, then the Caches folder, then the com.apple.Safari folder.
Move the cache.db file from the com.apple.Safari folder to the Trash.
Relaunch Safari and try again.
I have reset Safari as well without any luck. Is there any other way to set Safari to send Email links "File> Email Link To This Page" so that it will send Emails

Periodically, all links on a page (any page including Apple) will stop working. Quitting Safari and the restarting works to clear the problem until the next time. The links fail to work with either the mouse or the trackpad.

How do you determine what application will open up document links in Safari? I am creating a website with many links to xls, xlsx, ppt, pptx, doc, docx documents. When I click on one of these links, it either downloads the file if I have published the site to a host site, or brings me to the file in Finder if the website is accessed from a local drive. In other words, the site was exported and not published. But if I click on a link to a Pages, Numbers or Keynote file, it opens it up the linked document in that application regardless of whether I'm going from the published site or from the exported site on a local folder. I'd like the above Microsoft file types to automatically open up in their appropriate apps as well.Â
I know how to set what application gets opened on your Mac when you open a file depending on the file extension, but is there a way to tell Safari how to do this too?? For example, I've got doc and docx files set up to open Pages when I open those types of files which works fine on my Mac. But the same behavior doesn't hold true when opening these documents from Links on a web page in Safari. I thought this method would flow through and work the same way when opening document links in Safari, but it apparently doesn't.

Is there any function or app out there that will enable me to follow posts? For example, a question that i may have asked a year ago but want to continue following up on in case there is a reply? I have about 20 threads on this forum bookmarked and would like an easier way to keep up with them. I've only seen the availability to check a main page or subforum..but it seems like there should be something else available.

Some semi-Flash-based links do not work in Safari(I'm using 5.0.3) causing me to switch to...pretty much any other browser like Chrome when needed. For example, when playing Whirled by Three Rings, when trying to navigate the non-Flash menus, equipping/"Wearing" avatars or pets and furniture and stuff do not work.

I'm using the Safari Beta but cannot locate a way to make links appear in a new tab rather than a new window. In the prefs it has the ability to place links from other Apps into a new tab, but it appears the only way to do that within Safari is by CMD + click. Is there anyway to make anything clicked open in a new tab instead?

I think the users have been asking this question for more than two years. Is there a way to open links in the same tab automatically? Its annoying when I am using apple products and have to click three times for a task that is easily made with a single click in other products (chrome, firefox....).

Just purchased a new MacBook Air for my wife. While it is a huge step-up from the previous macbook, we've run into a very frustrating problem. Every now and then Safari will no longer accept any click on links or the ability to enter data into fields. You tap and click and it's like a brick wall--no response. We've tried forcing a refresh of that page, still won't work. If I quit Safari and then go back to the page, it's works. But unless I quit the app, it just remains an unclickable webpage.Â
Any thoughts?? I've never encountered this before and it is hard to duplicate as it is not consistent with specific sites or work flow.
