Hardware :: How About The File Transfer Rate In Wireless Mode

Oct 8, 2009

I am deciding to buy a TimeCapsule within next week because my Seagate FreeAgent 500 Gb is already full. But I still not sure about its functionality and warranty coverage.1. How about the file transfer rate in wireless mode(802.11n)?2. Can I use the USB port of TimeCapsule with my old Seagate FreeAgent to expand the capacity?3. Is there any way to install a bittorrent software on TimeCapsule? like Asus WL-500W4. Is it fully support Windows XP?5. Can I use it as a repeater? Is this an option provided in Airport utility?6. I have just purchased an AppleCare for my MACBook pro but I am not sure about it coverage.

OS X :: File Transfer Rate Between MBP (late2009) And External Is Extremely Slow?

Jul 13, 2010

I am wondering why my MBP takes about 7-8 mins to copy 700 mb files from the external (Seagate FreeAgent pro 500 Gb) and of course, it takes about 1 hour to copy 7 Gb files.

However, this problem has occurred only copying file from external to my MBP, the transfer rate is fine when copying files from MBP to external

Note : I've already repair the disk by using disk utilities, but it doesn't help me at all.

OS X :: Slow Wireless File Transfer Speed In LAN

I have an iMac and MBP. When I transfer files over the network (wireless) from one computer to the other, it is quite slow. I think around 1~1.5mb/sec. Is this normal or expected performance on file transfer via wireless? If so what can I do to increase the performance? Settings on the wireless router?

MacBook Pro :: New MBP 17", Slow Wireless Internet Crippled During File Transfer?

Aug 1, 2009

just got my 17" MBP today and it's beautiful. Playing a lot learning a lot (my first mac). Having one big headache though. What's up with the wireless speeds? I did some file copying from my Vista machine connected via ethernet and speeds were fine. Now I'm trying to copy some stuff from my girlfriends iMac over wireless (using a linksys wrt54g, both connected at G) and it's just balls slow. I'm talking about a meg a second, the hell? Now, what's really making me upset is the fact that it's also crippling my internet speeds when I'm doing this wireless to wireless file copy. It's like it's pegged so bad at the super fast 1mb/sec that I can't even browse the web without it timing out half the time. Internet is fine when the file copy is not happening.

Mac Pro :: Vista And Disk Data Transfer Rate

I just installed Vista on my Mac Pro (2.8 GHz Octo, 4 GB RAM, 8800 GT, 500 GB Caviar SE from WD) and I get 5.9's for everything but "Disk data transfer rate" - which is a 5.7. I know that is nothing to complain about, but I am just wondering what would earn a 5.9? Would it take a raptor to do that? Or just mine is not all that fast or something?

Could this cause trouble? The drive seems to be working fine so far... but does this mean this hitachi drive is not compatible with my mac?

MacBook Pro :: Wireless Transmit Rate In Mid?

Mar 3, 2010

I've been following this forum for quite some time after I first got an iPod touch and, recently, an MBP "17.Now, after I did some searches on the internet and couldn't find the answer, Im asking here:My MBP comes with a built-in draft-n wireless card. I bought a draft-n wireless router just for the purpose of utilizing greater wi-fi speeds, but there is one thing I noticed:when I boot MacOS and connect to the wireless network it shows me, tat the transmit rate of the network is 130 (Mbps I presume), on the other hand, when I boot to Windows (via Bootcamp) and connect to the same network - it shows a network speed of 280 Mbps. In both cases the transfer speed are relatively close and go up to 8-9 Megabytes per second.

Hardware :: Extremely Slow Transfer Rate In WD Elements External HD?

Sep 30, 2010

I am trying to use a WD Elements external HD formatted to Mac OS Extended, and the box says that the HD should have a USB 2.0 adapter, meaning it should transfer over 400 MB/s. Unfortunately for me, I've had many problems with this HD and it is now crawling at around 2.5MB/s, slower than 1.1 speeds. At the moment, it is at 750MB/93.51GB - About 21 hours. This is unexceptable, and I make HD videos, which are usually from 200 - 500 MB, and this would take AGES! I had no problems on my PC with this drive. Please help me! Should I format it to something else, get a new one, or something else? Please leave your suggestions below. Also, if you have an HD that works well, please leave it below,

P.S. All ports are free, except for the one with the HD in it. All that I have hooked up to my Late-2009 21.5" iMac is my wireless Apple keyboard, and my Magic Mouse. Nothing else hooked up to the computer AT ALL!

Power Mac G5 :: LaCie External Drive - Slow Data Transfer Rate

Nov 5, 2007

I have used the disk for a number of years - all appeared to work fine - I am now backing up my data and only get Very slow transfer speed using firewire 800 - 2 hrs to transfer 1.36 Gb. Disk is connected to a Dual 1.8 Ghz Power PC G5 with firewire 800 - another d2 disk is connected to it with firewire 400 and I have just connected a Maxtor disk using firewire 400 to that. I have tried Updated the firmware (it did require it), tested the device alone on both 800 and 400 connections both slow. Restarted everything and used disk repair to check and repair the disks - repaired permissions on the startup disk.

Connected all the devices together again | LaCie 800 - LaCie 400 - and Maxtor 400. It sends data to all the other devices fast (~ 3 min for 1.6 Gb) through the LaCie 800 disk connection!, but does not send data to the LaCie 800 fast at all. Tested the other devices alone as well - they are all fast. Have also performed a TechTool Pro Ver 4 test on the the disk (Disk type ST325082 3A 232.89 Gb LaCie d2 External LUN0 revision 3.03) Passed the surface scan, disk controller and read write tests. Is the disk failing?

Hardware :: Data Transfer Slow Speed Rate To Time Capsule

Apr 25, 2009

I did some experimenting this evening to assess data transfer rates to various storage items in my home network which uses a new Time Capsule as the router/hub.

Connected to the Time Capsule are the following:
- Mac Pro (GigE)
- Vista Machine (GigE)
- MBA (Wifi)
- Raptor Drive (USB 2)
- Time Capsule Drive (Internal)

Transferring a 650MB file between devices yielded the following results:
MP > Vista (GigE) = 288 Mbps
MP > MBA (5GHz) = 52 Mbps
MP > MBA (2.4GHz) = 43 Mbps
MP > Raptor (TC USB) = 38 Mbps
MP > TC Drive (Internal) = 38 Mbps
MBA (5GHz) > TC Drive (Internal) = 22 Mbps

It seems that transferring files to a USB drive or the internal drive on the Time Capsule is painfully slow. It took 2:20 to transfer the 650MB file to the Time Capsule over GigE vs. 0:20 seconds to another machine. What's worse, is that the data transfer speeds to the TC are a function of link speed, the slower your connection, the slower your transfer rates. It's not simply limited by some bottle-neck in the TC. It took 3:45 to transfer the same file to the TC from the MacBook Air over the 5GHz WiFi connection. When I complained about this the other day at the Apple store, the "Genius" said that it's due to QOS built into the router to ensure it doesn't kill my web browsing.

Applications :: Time Machine To Airport Extreme Data Transfer Rate?

May 25, 2009

I am doing an initial back up for Time Machine. I've got 56Gigs worth of data to back up from my 2Ghz Uni Body MacBook (with 4gig of Ram & running OS 10.5.7). I have a newly purchased Airport Extreme base station to which is connected to a Western Digital 1 Gig External HD. I am getting a transfer rate of about 1 gig per hour. Is it really this slow? I am using a 5Ghz network to reduce interference and they are very close to each other.

I tried connecting the WD drive to the MB. After I switched off Virus Barrier V5 and stopped Spotlight indexing it was quite fast. However there didn't seem a way of tricking this backup to think it was done via Airport Extreme. How could this be done?

It looks like my MB is going to have to be left on and stay at home for the next couple of days!

Intel Mac :: Loses Wireless Connection After Wake Up From Sleep Mode

My iMac is set up wireless. Every time it's allowed to go in sleep mode, it loses wireless connectivity. Hardware :: 5GHz Wireless LAN Transfer Speeds

Jun 19, 2010

Got a question for all you people experienced with wireless LAN transfers over a 5GHz 802.11n network. I just got myself a new AirPort Extreme and a 2TB hard drive. I'm planning on using this 2TB hard drive as a media server, but only for one stationary MacBook that I have hooked up in the living room. Here's my problem: If I plug the hard drive directly into the AirPort Extreme and transfer something from my iMac in my bedroom, the speeds are fantastic. I definitely see the 5GHz speed bump, and can transfer a 4GB file in just a few minutes. However, since the MacBook isn't that powerful, streaming a movie over WiFi seems to skip the playback a bit.

I would love to have the server plugged into the MacBook to avoid this skipping. I've tried playing a movie off a USB drive and it plays perfectly fine. However, when I transfer a movie from my iMac to the hard drive hooked up to the MacBook, the transfer speed is much, much slower (what would normally take a few minutes takes about 15). Why is it doing this? Is this normal, or should the transfer speed be theoretically the same as if the drive were plugged into the AirPort? I double checked that this MacBook is in fact connected to the 5GHz network (although it's at 270mbps instead of 300, but I don't think that should make that big of a difference).
