Hardware :: HP Printer - Full Black Ink Cartridges

I think this is the correct forum to ask this. I have an HP Photosmart c3150 all-in-one printer that I am trying to get to work with my white g3 laptop (running system 10.4.11). I have downloaded the appropriate drivers and all however the printer won't print any black ink. It prints color fine, and it scans fine, it just won't print with the black ink cartridge. When printing text (all black) it goes through the motions of printing but he page is blank when it comes out. I can print in color, and it prints fine (but with the obvious lack of black tones). I also tried to print using a Canon pixma ip 1500 printer and the exact same thing happened. No black ink. Both printers have black full black ink cartridges.
