Hardware :: G4 Only Starting When Replugged From Wall
Nov 28, 2009
I have a G4 dual 1.25 tower. Doesn't start when I push the start button on the monitor or the front of the box. If I unplug it from the wall and plug it back in once or twice it starts. I've replaced the battery and makes no difference.
I have a Iomega external hard drive and it was working great until two days. I must have unplugged the usb before I ejected it and now my macbook pro cant recognize it. In disk utility I saw the hard-drive but it would not let me format it. I dont know what to do?
I was just wondering if anyone else noticed this. I notice this everytime I minimize a window. When my MBP is plugged to the wall, and I minimize a window, the animation is very smooth, but when it is unplugged, just using the battery power, it is still smooth, but not as smooth.
I just got my new ACD; and after about 10 mins, I seem to have killed it. I bought the VESA wall mount with it, and started attaching it.
As soon I had removed the stand, the block that comes out of the ACD so you could attach the mounting plate to it dropped into the display, and the lever doesn't allow me to pull it back out again....
So basically I cannot put the wall mount on, and I can't put the stand back on either (because I would need that block to attach one of them onto)...
Would Apple exchange it for me if I called Online Sales or should I contact AppleCare?
Is just bought a Macbook Pro on Craigslist; it came with the square, white wall charger. The problem is, when I plug the charger into an outlet, it falls out. I've had to literally tape the charger to the wall to keep it in the outlet.
What do you guys think of wall-mount your Mac Mini behind a wall-mounted monitor? I've done it. It's pretty neat and clean look. Check out: Before I put my Mini on top the shelf:and after here is the Mini:
In Firefox and Minefield I am able to post on peoples walls, but often I am unable to load their profiles well. In Safari, I am able to get to Facebook profiles, but when the profile is fully loaded, and I click in the area marked for writing on the "Wall" my text is grey, as it was when the profile first loaded and Facebook alerted me where I can write. When I click post, Facebook does not recognize that anything has been written, and will not post the text.
I have the latest MacBook Pro (see sig) and for some reason when i try to record a video on someones facebook wall or in a message, the camera will turn on for a second then turn off and facebook says "look for camera again" and it never works. When i right click on the video box and go to flash settings, its set to USB for webcam and when i double click to check it in settings it'll show me (meaning the camera is working from the usb setting), but when i go back to the facebook video box my camera will never turn on. anyone have a fix for this? All other macs i've used have done this just fine.
Are there any wall mounts or stands for the AirPort Express? I only found ones for the Extreme and Time Capsule. I did find this but the product is discontinued.
Anyone know of software that looks like a Yearly planner. You know, like a each month of the year mapped out and you can colour them differently or block out certain weeks to signify something important. I know I can use ical but I want to be able to block out things and see the year at a glance.
I'm in the market for a 100mm VESA Desk/Wall Mount that's suitable for the 30" Apple Cinema Display. I already have the sub-assembly, just missing the actual fixture.
To be completely honest, I've looked at a few but I'm not completely sure what weight capacity I should be looking for. I can tell you one thing, the 30" ACD ain't a light mother, it's actually quite heavy, perhaps it's due to the Alu shell?
I wonder are there many people out there who might be using those? If your using one, either at work or in the home, would you mind posting your model and personal rating?
Is there a way to prevent the PB from going to sleep after the wall charger is unplugged when using the clamshell mode? I'm going to use my PB as a carputer and want it to run for awhile after I turn off the car..I know the PB will go to sleep when it loses power in clamshell mode..
When I depress the center of my mouse to access the calcualtor, I cannot see the documents open on my desktop. With Snow Leopard and Tiger, I could see the documents, so I could actually input the figures I am trying to calculate. Now, some weird lego-type wall paper appears as the background. I see my widgets, but not the docs currently open.

On the advice of various forum members, I recently upgraded my 2008 Mac Pro to 12 GB of RAM (from 4 GB), in order to solve an issue I was having with Logic. Unfortunately the issue is still present and I am wondering what to do as I've already blown my budget to fix it. I'm hoping someone here can help.
I use the Vienna Symphonic Library through ESX24 in Logic 9, on a 2008 Mac Pro (2.8 Ghz octocore). When I attempt to play back some of my compositions, Logic hits a wall with certain sections, indicating "System Overload. The audio engine was not able to process all required data in time. (-10011)" I did check System Profiler, and all the RAM is being recognized. Is there any way to solve this without new hardware? As a side note, I was wondering how I can add more than 255 ESX24 tracks as Logic seems to cap out at that. Please let me know anything I can try.
Just recently started with a company that uses a SonicWall SOHO3 VPN - the client is Windows based only. I am trying run this on my Windows XP Pro VM in Parallels 5.0 for Mac (I use a MBP with Snow Leopard 10.6.2) and get hung up on the "Acquiring IP" step. Same result in shared or bridged setting on Parallels.
I have one of the first generation Intel Xeon Mac Pros (quad core, 2,66 Ghz I think). and in the last two days, I've been having some problems on startup...the power comes on, but the system never starts. If I turn the power on and off a few times, I can eventually get it to work.
Is this something easily repairable? My Apple Care ran out and I didnt renew it. If this is a costly fix, is it possible to buy a *new* bare bones Mac Pro and just swap the hard drives from my first one?
I looked on other threads with similar issues, but they all seem related to the NVidia 8800 crd, but I have an ATI X1900 installed by Apple.
I was listening to iTunes and browsing the web on safari in OSX10.6.1 and each program became unresponsive and the beach ball popped up. I then held in the power button to turn off my mac and I pressed it a second time to turn it back on. After waiting about 15 seconds on the gray screen a file folder with a question mark came up. I set up a genius bar appointment for Saturday (store has been closed for remodeling and opens back up then) but I would like some knowledge as to what is going on before going into the Apple Store.
i have a 2007 15" mbp that woke me up this morning trying to boot up. here's the story: last night after watching a couple comedy channel shows, i shutdown my machine and left it plugged in the wall to recharge. it sat atop my dresser, with the lid closed. i awoke to the boot-up chime and a bright light spilling out of the 2 mm screen/body crack. the machine then rapidly shutoff and repeated this two or three more times more without me intervening --it's possessed!! after a couple hours of investigating the problem, i'm now completely lost on what to do. i've read all the apple support pages, and tried all their suggestions including reformatting PRAM and SMC. however, nothing worked.
here are the facts: - when i press the power button without the power cord attached--i.e. using just the battery--the chime sounds, hard disk (i think) makes its typical sound, the screen turns grayish-white....but....then, i hear a zzzzpp sound from the top left of the body (under the left speaker) and the boot up immediately fails. - here's the kicker--when i press the power button with the power cord attached, and with or without the battery inserted = nothing happens; however, if i detach, then reattach the power cord, my mbp automatically boots as described above without me touching the power button. - my battery is fully charged - i've tried another power cord and battery...same pattern as above
Whenever I start/restart my MP, I am unable to interact with the unit for 2-3 minutes. The mouse pointer will move, but I cannot click on items, nor will the dock icons magnify until 2-3 minutes after. I have done a clean install now and have taken out the 4890. Everything is back to stock but it continues to occur.
I recently got a G4 450 AGP. My intension was to take the hard drive out of my B&W G3 which at the time it was installed with 10.3x (all latest updates) Took out the hard drive and put it in the G4. Started up the computer and was a little slow starting up but it did. I got a dvd ram drive some time ago and put it in and went to update to 10.4.6 with a retail disk. Went and did the update install and when it went to start up in hung up on the gray apple screen with the gray spinning beach ball of death. Thinking that something went wrong I went thru and did it again. Same out come. Un hooked the dvd drive and the zipdrive. No difference. Switched around the ram chips - used some didn't use others-back and forth. No difference.
Put in the install dvd and ran apple repair-nothing wrong. Ran repair permissions and there were things wrong- don't recall what but everything was fixed. Ran repair permissions again and was clean. Tried restart same thing........................
