Apr 8, 2012
i have just a plain macbook not pro or air just a Macbook and its white. Well i need to turn my fire wall off for some thing for like 2 secounds then back on but i go into system preferances and there is no option for security and privacy which is were the turn On/Off firewall is its just not there for some reason please help me...Im on Mac OS X (10.7.3) system help
I recently discovered after installing the new Snow Leopard OS that I did not have a bluetooth option under my system preferences. I own a mid 2008 Macbook Pro (pre-unibody, more info below) and I know that I've used it before. I recently took my computer in to be repaired by Apple because the keyboard and trackpad were inconsistently responsive, and to fix it they simply replaced the entire top panel (with the keyboard and trackpad). I have also checked under the system profiler and it says that there is no information available for my bluetooth...what exactly does this mean? Did they forget to reinstall it? or what?
I can't seem to access icloud on my mac. All my software is up to date. When i access support for icloud, it tells me to click on the icloud icon in my system preferences but that's not an option.
Im trying to change apps that control my computer but I can no longer get access to privacy settings in "security & privacy."Â Â I couldnt remember my old appleID password so just changed which means I cant update the login password in the general settings either.Â
I don't know why but, I cannot change the option of scroll bar in General, System Preferences. Every time I turned it to "Automatically based on mouse or trackpad", it always changes back to "Always" the next time I launch the System Preferences.Â

I've just discovered that I can't access the Firewall tab in the Security & Privacy settings pane. I click on it, but nothing happens. I'm pretty sure that I was able to do this before and turn my firewall on - I get asked sometimes if I can allow an app to receive incoming connections.

A few days ago my email was hacked into which sent a spam email to all my contacts. I changed my password to that account, warned everyone in my contacts, and haven't had a problem with email since. However, I tried to do the 'delete all cookies' again and when I go to safari/preferences/privacy...there is nothing on that screen under that tab. Not even a question mark. I changed my history items to be removed every day from every week but don't think that would be the issue.Â

I have problems to approve my Mac from another device. There is a request for the Security Code to turn on the iCloud key chain. Where do I find the security code? I do not recall being issued one or making up a code.
I recently upgraded to Mac OS X 10.6 from OS X 10.5, but after that I have been unable to unlock the security preferences. Also whenever I try to install any software or update, instead of asking me the administrator password, the system does nothing, no dialog box appears. When I tried to unlock the security preferences in the System Preferences, after the clicking the 'lock' icon, the status bar shows "Authenticating....." for a couple of settings but nothing happens after that!
I am using Intel MacBook with Core 2 Duo 2 GHz, 1 GB RAM
I tried to enable my firewall by clicking on the security panel in the server preferences, but it isn't there. I am using FireVault and I have Snow Leopard installed in my MacMini OSX. Am I vulnerable to malicious attacks in the internet?
An application I am trying to use needs to have cookies enabled. My Safari Preferences for Security do not show cookies. In fact it only shows selections for Fraudulent sites and Web content. I am the admin. What do I need to do to see these settings?
I have recently begun to use a fios router for my home network. When originally set up by fios they set the security to wep, and I set my network prefences as such. Since then I have changed the router to wpa security My network prefences still shows that wep encryption is being used. It still connects to the net but I can't figure out how to change it to reflect wpa security. Or since I am connecting to the net , is it necessary.
I'm sort of new to the Time Capsule and still trying to wrap my head around all the different services. Currently I've setup my Time Capsule via ethernet and have setup mobile me on it. I've been trying to setup 'back to my mac' with no luck, the time capsule never shows up in the mobile me account. I'm able to connect to the Time Capsule via AFP protocol, but I couldn't find any documentation detailing the level of security of this connection. So far all that I've found is that my documents are being sent as clear text, not even the slightest hope of SSL. I would hope that enforce SSL and deny clear text connection would be an option but I couldn't find it in the control panel.
My last question is regarding the Time Capsule network share option. Obviously the share works well, as it can be access by any computer, but how would one setup the Time Machine to back it up too? As of right now it seems that the general belief of having your network share on the device that backs up your mac, means that the network share itself is being backed up. This is obviously not true, unless it's setup. I may have been caught in the middle of apple commercial propaganda and therefore believe that the peripheral can do more than it physically can.
On the advice of various forum members, I recently upgraded my 2008 Mac Pro to 12 GB of RAM (from 4 GB), in order to solve an issue I was having with Logic. Unfortunately the issue is still present and I am wondering what to do as I've already blown my budget to fix it. I'm hoping someone here can help.
I use the Vienna Symphonic Library through ESX24 in Logic 9, on a 2008 Mac Pro (2.8 Ghz octocore). When I attempt to play back some of my compositions, Logic hits a wall with certain sections, indicating "System Overload. The audio engine was not able to process all required data in time. (-10011)" I did check System Profiler, and all the RAM is being recognized. Is there any way to solve this without new hardware? As a side note, I was wondering how I can add more than 255 ESX24 tracks as Logic seems to cap out at that. Please let me know anything I can try.
I'm not talking about the System Preferences app itself, I'm talking about the settings within the app. So for instance, the security settings, and the mouse settings, energy saver, etc.
Where can I find the settings files on my Mac so I can back them up?
I indadvertently hit some keyboard combo that caused my otherwise hidden-by-default dock to remain permanently visible. Worse, the "hide dock" option is now gone from my system preferences. how to make the preference check box reappear?Â
I have a macbook a little over a year old. It's my first mac and I love it. Yesterday though it started acting really weird. I first noticed that it was really, really hot and the fan was running. I turned it off and back on and here's what I found out:
Applications are being deleted from macbook. ITunes, IPhoto, iChat have clear question marks over icon. There are 8-10 blank spaces in the Applications folder where applications have been deleted. However, data is still there (ex. pictures still there, but no iPhoto).
Internet= Says I have internet but wont connect.
Cannot open " System Preferences" or "Internet Preferences".
If connected to home computer will connect to internet and allowed to open internet preferences but still no system preferences.
If shut down....takes a while to come back on and starts up 2-3 times.
Also "Preview" is gone. Now " ColorSync Utility" opens.
Is this my hard drive dying? I'm tech challenged, so any help would be greatly appreciated.
I've been having lots of problems with Bluetooth lately. It would randomly go out and the icon at the menu bar would say "Bluetooth: Not Available" and I won't have the option to turn it off or on. I use it for my Mighty Mouse and Apple Keyboard and they both have good batteries.
