View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a slow network issue. I'll try to make it as simple as possible.
1 MacBook Pro
1 Airport Extreme
1 Airport Express to Extend the Network
The network to my living room was slow, so I added the Express to extend the network. When connected through the Express, with a Time Machine backup, I'm getting about 500K/sec transfer speeds. When I move the laptop away from the Express and close to the Extreme, the network works much faster, about 5MB/sec. I don't understand why the network is so much slower when using the Airport Express as a network extender. Is the speed difference normally that much? If it's not supposed to be, is there anything I can do?
When i try to extend my network with my Airport Express it creates another wireless network, wich is not what i want.
I have a Leve1 router as my main, connected to my modem.
My airport express is connected to the network with a CAT5 ethernet cable.
I use the setup in Aiport Utility and choose:
I Want Airport Express to join my current network ->
I want to connect AirPort Express to my network using Ethernet to extend my current netork or create a second network ->
I choose my network on the list and click continue ->
I want to connect AirPort Express to my network using Ethernet to extend my existing wireless network ->
And then it doenst join my network, but creates a new called Apple Network 00a133..
Can the new Time Capsule be used as a stand alone router or do I have to connect it to my existing Sky router?
I believe people on here call it bridging.
Can I use Airport express with it to extend my network or will I still need the Extreme?
Is it possible to extend my wifi network with my Airport express, knowing that my airport express is not connected by ethernet ?
View 1 Replies View Relatedi recently bought an Airport Express, and i finally took it out of its box after i purchased my new stereo. I connected the audio cable to the stereo and the airport unit and plugged it into an outlet. I opened up airport utility on my mac, AX appeared and i configured it to "join a wireless network". After completing the remaining steps, i updated it.. and waited for it to restart. Now here's my problem. It comes up with an error telling me it couldn't find the device after restarting. I have Verizon FiOS as my provider.. and I know that airport express has a history of trouble with the Actiontec router. Is there anything i can do with my current equipment to get this thing to work? I do not need to extend the network.. only join to use airtunes and print wirelessly... Also, my Actiontec router and FiOS connection are through my crappy dell pc downstairs, while i am using my 24" iMac upstairs in my bedroom trying to connect this. Should i change my router's settings?
View 10 Replies View RelatedCan it? If it can, would Airtunes still work like normal.
In other words, can I be connected to my Airport EXTREME and Airtunes would still work since the Airport EXTREME and EXPRESS are using the same network wifi-name (the Express is just extending the Extreme's range).
I am thinking about buying an airport express to extend the wireless coverage in my house.
I have a wireless router, however the signal does not quite reach the other side of the house. At the moment I use some network over mains equipment, like [URL], to connect a desktop up at the other side of the house.
I was wondering if I will be able to connect an airport express up to one of these power line adapters and use it in conjunction with the other wireless.
we have time capsule and airport express. TC wifi protocols N and G.
and i want to extend two protocol with airport express.
but, Airport express extend only G protocol when I extend.
how to extend multi ssid (N & G) with airport express ?
I'm trying to figure out the possibilities of the Airport Express. I have tried to draw up what I want and would like to know if t is possible. I want to use the Airport express as a frontend unit because of he ability to use AirTunes. Unfortunately my HDX 1000 is not wireless (NMT to play media to my TV from my NAS). Is it possible to extend the wired LAN from my Linksys to the AE and by that enable my HDX 1000 to play content from my NAS?
View 8 Replies View RelatedSorry if this question has been asked many times before - I tried running numerous searches, but it's been difficult to find a straightforward answer to my predicament.
I have a time capsule and an airport express. I would like to extend the range of my wifi network as my modem (attached to the time capsule) is on the third floor of my home and I'd like to improve the strength of my internet connection to the lower floors. I've tried to set-up airport express (located on the 2nd floor, but initially set-up near my time capsule) and the time capsule with the extend range options, but my airport express doesn't seem to improve the range of the wifi. I tested my internet speed by running the test away from airport express, near airport express and with my laptop connected to airport express via ethernet. In fact, connecting the laptop to airport express seems to produce the slowest download speed and being near airport express does not seem to provide faster download speeds.
Can someone point me to straightforward instructions where I can setup airport express to extend the range of my wifi network that uses time capsule? Also, how will I know that airport express is extending my range? When I view my wireless networks, should I see my airport express as one of the wireless networks that I can connect to?
Is it possible to run or are some of you running on airport extreme as your base and then using an express to extend the coverage of your Wifi?
View 1 Replies View RelatedIf you have a wireless network using an AirPort Extreme, can you extend the range by using an other AirPort Extreme with? Or you can only do that with an AirPort Express?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI made an addition on my house and the reception in the new area is weak, can I purchase two MB763LL/A wifi units and then have them talk to each other (I can run a cable between the two units if that speeds up the network, currently the sheetrock is not installed on the addition).

We recently bought a new AirPort Extreme. As we already have one, we want to hook them up by ethernet, and the new one should extend the wireless network created by the old one.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy neighbor has a blazing 10mb dl wireless connection which I can use. Problem, I'd like to use my Airport Extreme so I can hook up an external HD for use with Time Machine. I'd like to extend the Linksys wireless network with my AE.
Can this be done without needing a wired connection to set the two routers up? I'm hoping I can just connect my AE to the Linksys by way of remote setup.
I have a D-Link Extreme router, and the WiFi has issues with my MacBook and such every so often and it drives me absolutely crazy. But I have 2 wired computers and a Xbox 360 that never have a problem plugged into the router via ethernet. I was wondering if I bought a Airport Express and plugged it into the 4th port of my router rather then into modem would it have enough juice to transfer the WiFi? I don't want to spend the extra money on a more expensive router for some plugs and WiFi if I can still use my router for wired and send a wire to the Airport for wireless. Yet I don't want to spend the money on the Airport Express if it can't be used like that like some other routers can.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a PC (running XP Pro) that accesses the internet through a wired router (D-Link) hooked to a cable modem. My boyfriend just moved in with his iBook and Airport Express. I hooked the Airport Express to a LAN port on the wired router, and it basically works fine. He is able to access the internet wirelessly without any trouble. I also connected the printer to Airport Express and he is able to print wirelessly. However, I thought I was going to be able to also print to the printer because following info from Airport FAQ.
FROM AIRPORT EXPRESS FAQ:
Question: AirPort Express connects via wire to my third-party router, and I have plugged a compatible USB printer into AirPort Express. Will it share the printer with my non-Apple computers, too?
Answer: AirPort Express acts as a print server for any Mac OS X 10.2 or later, Windows 2000, or Windows XP computer that is on the same subnet, regardless of whether the third-party router is wired or wireless.
Can anyone comment on this? How can I make this feature work from my wired computer? Is there something I need to do to make them on the same subnet? Also, if there IS a way to print via Airport Express, is there a way for me to access airTunes too?
I did read a somewhat similar situation and this is what was advised. "Manually give it an IP address and subnet in airport admin (under the internet tab). For example if your router IP address is 192.168.x.1 with a subnet of 255.255.255.0 give your Airport Express 192.168.x.2 255.255.255.0. i.e. give your Airport Express 1 IP number higher than your router. Also make sure you are not distrupting IP address from your Airport Express, and you are creating a wifi not joining."
I feel really dumb asking it, having been "into" computers for over half my life; However I digress. Will an aiport express work with my router that came with the internet service I have? Or will it only work with an airport extreme base station?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI'm sure this has been asked upwards of a million times around here, and I've read a few of them. What I'm looking for is updated information. I was all set to buy a Linksys WRT54G as suggested by Arstechnica in 2004. However reading the first reviewer here suggests that Linksys has changed their internal firmware, and that I may not be able to use it anymore. All that has put me back at square one. Since this is a hack, different versions of each router may or may not work. I really want to know what currently sold routers people have managed to work with their Airport express.

I have an Airport Extreme, with two USB hard drives connected to it. The Airport Extreme shares these disks to my wireless network via Airport Disks.
Upstairs I have an Airport Express, that wirelessly connects to my Airport Extreme downstairs, and extends the wireless network so I get a good wireless reception upstairs.
My problem is, that it does not seem like me Airport Express does a good job of forwarding my 2 USB Airport Disks to the extended wireless network upstairs.
For example, when I use the AirVideo iPhone app to stream video from my USB Airport Disks I get a server connection error when I go upstairs and the iPad/iPhone switches to the Airport Express networks. I cannot reconnect as long as it is on the Airport Express network. If I turn the airport Express off, and thus switch to the poor wireless reception from the Airport Extreme, I can connect to the USB Airport disks again.
The Airport Express is connected to the Airport Extreme in bridged mode.
I've moved out to the middle of nowhere, and there's no phone line. However i do have a very fast 3G/HSDPA wireless router on the 'Three' network, and have been impressed by its speed - i was downloading at 285kb/sec just now! Only issue is that there's a 15gb/month limit on data, but it's the most i could get.
Anyway, it's not a USB dongle, it's actually a tiny wireless router and more than 1 person can be connected with no problems. It's a Huawei E585 Wireless Modem.Thing is, I still want to use my Airport Express (802.11n) to stream from different machines to my hifi. How should i go about this? If i connect the Airport Express to the 'Three' router (which is b/g speed) and use that normally, would it work properly do you think? Does anyone have a set up like this, or has tried it
I don't have my Airport Express with me as it's with a friend, so can't just go and try it myself. Obviously don't want to have to put a computer onto a different network to be able to use 'Airtunes'.
Not sure if this is possible, I'm sure there's someone out there who would be able to tell me either way. I've got a D Link router thats plugged into my 50mb in my lounge. I'd like to put my airport express in my kitchen and pair them so its the same network. The reason for this is that I have my HIFI in the kitchen which will be plugged into my airport so I can use it as remote speakers for my itunes while I'm still connected to the 50mb and D Link. Is this possible?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI live in a small apartment, so I never set up a wireless network, because, well I don't need to. However, lately I've been interested in trying some things out with my iphone to see how they work (the remote application mainly), but don't really have the money or need to go out and buy a wireless router. I was curious if there was any way to use my Airport Express Station as a wireless router? Someone told me it was possible, but after much googling, I didn't find much.

Does it serve as a fully functional router?

View 24 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to connect an AE to my PC using XP with a D-Link DIR-655 WiFi router. I've used the airport utility and connected the AE to my router via ethernet. It appears to be setup properly and I can see it on the D-Link software. After disconnecting the ethernet cable and with the AE sitting next to the router it continually shows up and then disappears. The light is green on the AE. Then I disconnected the power and moved the AE into the place where I'm going to use it.
Now it will show up on my D-Link software occasionally but the light won't turn green. It also doesn't show up on the airport utility software. I also have a Touch and ATV that both work fine on the same network and the same location. The AE is about 30 feet from the router with only one wall in between them. Am I missing something here or could there be a problem with the AE?
I have a linksys wirless router in room A next to my cable modem I have a stero system in room B connected to my tv
I would like to play iTunes music on the stero system in room B.
Do I have to buy two AirPort Express routers? One connected to the internet in room A and one connected to my stero in room B?
I know this seems like a silly question, but it's just something I want to ensure before I go out and buy an Airport Express.
I can plug in a CAT5e cable from my router into the Airport Express and it should work fine, correct?
