Jun 20, 2010Am I correct in the assumption that if I set the view options on the top level (OS-X HDD, for example) and select 'Use as Defaults' any folders below that (i.e. everything) will assume those settings?
If so, it doesn't seem to be doing that for me. I'm constantly coming across folders that I need to set the view options manually...

Jun 5, 2014I just got a new Macbook Pro with Mavericks and Safari 7's tabs look absolutely ridiculous. They are like page wide. Terrible. How do I restore them back to the old style?? Also I do not want to install a 3rd party extension such as Glims to fix it. Apple should fix it.

Nov 8, 2010I�m trying to help my mum set up her imac and she has asked me to help make the text bigger on the screen. I�ve shown her how to zoom on word/safari/etc, however ideally I want to make all the text on the computer bigger - eg. menus at top of screen, finder text, etc...
The first thing I tried was adjusting the display resolution from 1920x1080 to 1600x900 or 1280x720, but this seemed to make the screen blurry.
Does anyone know if there is any other way that I can help make the text bigger for all system elements?

Applications :: IDVD Widescreen Project Too Wide For TV?
Mar 19, 2009I'm going nutz and have read a bunch of other threads on this but most of it is way over my head. I just made a movie on iMovie and then moved it to iDVD. I am using iLife 08. The projects (the movie and dvd) were both widescreen. Everything was great! Looked great on the computer etc... But then I played the dvd on my widescreen TV and the top and bottom of the picture (including titles I had put on the bottom of the screen using the imovie templates) had been cut off. Not letter boxed but rather they seemed to not fit on the screen. I tried changing my tv settings but nothing seems to work. Does anyone know what might be up? I also tried to burn the dvd as a standard 4:3 project and the resulting DVD still had the top and bottom cut off. Is this an issue with my DVD/TV?

OS X :: Format External Hard Drive In Apple Partition Map Format?
Nov 5, 2009I'm running Snow Leopard on my new Macbook Pro. I've got a 1.5TB External hard drive that I'm trying to figure out how to format in HFS+ with Apple Partition Map. I can figure out how to format in HFS using Disk Utility, however it still does it in GUID format and I do not know how to do it in Apple Partition Map.
Googleing this for hours has lead with all kinds of information on how to go to GUID FROM Apple Partition Map but not the other way around. I know GUID is the new hottness.. but this drive will be used exclusively to connect to my XBOX 360 and it supposedly only reads HFS+ when its formatted with Apple Partition Map. (I have tried it with Mac OS Extended (Journaled) with GUID, and the XBOX does NOT recognize it) I do not want to use Fat 32, (I know that that is the other major option) beacuse it limits file size.

I am not interested in gaming or doing anything fancy just surfing the web and working on documents and maybe looking at movies. I already have a hack that enables me to use a regular display which doesn't mirror the iBook screen. I just wondered whether I would encounter problems using a wide screen display and what the maximum resolution I should look for.

Jun 11, 2008I have an inch wide white stripe that runs from the top to the bottom of my screen. This is on an Imac. The cursor disappears when going through it but pops out on the other side. It doesn't move but I can drag my window back and forth to view the part the stripe covers.

Jul 29, 2010I have a June 2009 Macbook Pro 2.53ghz (9400m gfx card) I am running these programs at once and am experiencing extreme lag in the overall system:
1) Heroes of Newerth
2) Itunes (with music playing)
3) Safari
I feel like my $2k computer should be able to take these tasks on with no problems but i get systemwide lag, even my text cursor is lagging while im typing this. Is it just an incapable computer or am i doing something wrong?

I formatted the external drive in exFAT and wanted to know if there are any problems that might occur in the future. I already know there is an issue with such programs as Carbon Copy Cloner. I primarily need the drive for backup of the images and not system backups. Do you have any file corruption or other problems formatting in exFAT?

Apr 8, 2012I've been trying to get a dual boot 10.4.11 and Linux partition going on my G4 iMac and have been experiencing a great deal of universal resistance to getting it done . . . chiefly in the area of getting a GUI going and then problems with Linux seeming to "break" the ethernet connection after getting itself "successfully installed." In various Linux forums posters have been asking to look at the "syslog" file but without a GUI my knowledge isn't good enough to do that. However, in that process I recently looked at the OSX Console's version of the "system log" and I see repeated mention of: "mDNSResponder: NOTE: Wide-Area Service Discovery disabled to avoid crashing defective DNS relay 192.168.1.1." . . . .
This seems to occur every day and doesn't seem to interfere with my use of the internet in OSX side--I'm typing this now in OSX--but would this explain possibly why Debian loses the ethernet connection at times making it hard to update/upgrade or retrieve the xorg stuff?? Should I contact my ISP about this or is this a non-issue?

Sep 22, 2010I'm actually trying to so this in Excel 2003 for Windows at work, but I have the most recent version of Office for Mac on my home computer and can do it there if the procedure is different between the two versions.
I'm working on a certain type of project that can have any combination of associated Word, PowerPoint, and Excel documents. When I'm done with a project, I want to create a single PDF containing all associated content. In principle, it's easy: create a PDF of each document, and then combine the PDFs using Acrobat. Unfortunately, most of the Excel spreadsheets are wider than any of the paper sizes in Excel's Page Setup options. For instance, if I select Legal for the paper size and then print landscape to PDF, it prints however many columns would fit on an 11" piece of paper, then prints the next 11" range of columns, and so on. The resulting document makes no sense, because all the columns aren't contiguous. I'm never going to print the PDF, just view it on screen, and I want the PDF to look just like the Excel spreadsheet does. Is there any sort of "Print Actual Width" option in Acrobat that overrides Excel's page-size options? I've Googled this topic and checked Microsoft's support site.

Nov 5, 2005When ever I try to open or save a file in any application the spinning wheel is shown and the dialog takes from 5 to 20 seconds to display. Once it is on screen the speed returns to normal. I have a G5 Power Mac 1.6 GHz (Single Processor) 2 GB RAM (crucial) 2 SATA hard-disks (original 80 GB used as a clone for the 160 GB - I use carbon copy cloner) Everything else is as standard with the Mac. This problem started with 10.3 and may have been at the same time as installing the second 160 GB hard-disk, cloning the original to the new one, then changing the SATA cables around to make the new hard-disk on bus A. I then upgraded to Tiger but the problem still persists. I have tried repairing permissions and have used support tools like cocktail etc to check for hard drive issues and clear the cache files.
Also, on installing the second hard-disk, I also tried swap cop to change the swap file to the backup hard-disk. This did not work so I manual modified the files to return them to the original state. I did this while the system was running 10.3. I take it on upgrading to 10.4, the swap file config would have been fixed anyway? Everything else on the system seems fine. If nothing specific is found I may try removing the old hard disk.
QuickTime :: Player Seem To Enlarge Smaller Movies To ~480 Pixels Wide On Playback?
Apr 16, 2012QuickTime Player (we have version 10.1) seems to play movies at a minimum movie size of 480 pixels wide. Smaller movies (say 80, 200, etc. pixels wide) get enlarged to 480 pixels wide when played, making them blurry. Movie Inspector confirms the original size of these movies (of various formats) and that the current player window size is 480 pixels wide. They can't be viewed any smaller (either by the window resize handle or from the View menu).We frequently make moves from slices through small sub-volumes of 3D reconstructions and it doesn't seem that this latest version of QuickTime Player can be used to view these small-sized movies any longer. Am I missing a preference or checkbox somewhere in QuickTime Player?
